Welcome to the discussion board! My best advice would be to give Richard Clark a telephone call and tell him what machine you have and how you would like to use it. He stocks a bunch of tires and wheels and can put a package together for you. His phone number is: 812-944-1643. Richard is the owner of Route6x6 and Richard's Relics. He lets us use this website for free and allows us a place to discuss the machines and find a massive amount of information. So if you can support him that is great and it helps keep this site up for everyone. Another thing you can do is register yourself and get a profile on route6x6. It is a great way to meet other owners. So what machine do you have and where are you located?

A word of caution on rims. I bought a rim from Richard for a Max II, but it would not hold a bead at low air pressure (<= 3lbs). I tried everything, like tire slime, rim sealant, etc. I finally ordered a factory rim from Recreatives, and it works just great. It has a double lock rim, that the cheaper rim lacks. Recreatives rims are custom made (I think by Kawasaki), and are worth the extra money. I'm keeping the cheap rim and an extra tire as an emergency spare, but with about 8 lbs of air to keep the tire on the rim. I don't want to knock Richard's rims based on just one experience, but the bead on very low pressure tires is critical, and a double lock rim seems essential.

The factory retail price on a 12" K wheel is $74.55. On Richards wheels there can be a trick to getting wheels to seal. Normally pumping them up to a higher pressure then letting a bead form then letting the pressure back down. He does have bead lock wheels and they help from the tire sliding in on the wheel and breaking the bead. I just had to put tubes in some Argo wheels because I could not get them to seal. They were not new but had dents and pry marks so a good sealing surface was not possible.

The k-rims for the new Max vehicles are the best rim you can put on a skid steer. I do not personally know what Richard offers or even his prices. I do know for a fact though, Max rims are made by Kawasaki and sold ONLY to Recreatives. I was told by their engineer recently that they spent about $30,000 on the tooling for each rim, the 8" and 12". The rims are worth the cash as the rims are one major downfall of the Argo vehicles. It usually takes about five minutes at one of our 6x6 rides for an Argo to break a bead and lose a tire.

Jerry

Thanks for your messsage of support to me.
I do sell many different rims at many different
price levels. both BEAD LOCK and NON BEAD LOCK. If a customer wants good rims and does indeed buy good rims, then our rims work fine, even then at a good price. If a customer wants something cheap, then we have that too. Even with the BEAD LOCK rims we have different rims at different prices too.

If a customer has a problem with any 6x6 issue, our parts or not, they are always welcome to contact us and we will solve the problem.

How much air does it take to pop a tire over a k-rim bead? I know it takes more than the tire recommends most of the time.Anyone can roll a bigger bead into a rim,If a tire ever explodes wile mounting it , so long K-rim. Safety is the limiting factor on beads and rims.

Brandon
You seem to think max is the only game around. you take every possible jab at everyone esle
when ever you can. I have had an argo for 10 years, I am really happy with it, I had a max before that, happy with it too. Your messages would be take with more detail if you would stop bashing everyone else, you stated you do not know what richard sell, so how do you know there is not something else that is better, or even so may be he too sells your loved kawasaki rims, I will bet he can buy them too, from max if nothing else. Maybe you should not trust everything max tells you, 30,000$ sounds like big hype to me, what does everyone think?
I do not mean to make you mad but lighten up, please, lets keep this board fun to use.

Jerry. as you said my hat still goes off to richard for providing this board for use to use

Preston

eddie,: the rim will still be ok even if you do explode the tire,(i should know)
preston:
brandons has had his falts and all that, but i don't remember him bashing argo's much as of late, seams he only reinterated the exepted fact that the k-rims are the best available for our skid steers, there are higher tech rims in this world, but none of them are available in our 5 bolt pateren, whatever the truth is behind there availablity to us there remains this other truth.
~ the world would be an even nicer place with a 9" k-rim in it~
now whos going to make that happen?

Preston..Glad you are enjoying your ARGO.They are awsome machines. Some people like a guy named Roger Smith who is in a movie sold by John Schwab (frostbite weekend 05) can make his 8 wheeler do unheard of things. I like my Max IV. There is no question that the MAX K rims hold the bead on soft tires better than any other rim, period. You and Eddie should register instead of being" unregistered guests ".
======= Eddie, what's your point? Don,t use a better rim cause the tire might be hard to mount? Like David says work safely if a tire blows during inflation it won,t be the rim thats "goodbye".--- ==== David, I know that Fred Sowerwine and I want a 26" tire on a smaller rim but why a 9" instead of the 8"??? P.S. I'm still laughing about the flaming flying tire story. Thanks for that one! W. Philip Cox

I'm saying if you roll to big of bead into the rim then you run more of a chance of it exploding, that is why not everyone does it.I know the rim will survive but what about your head, arms, and hands. There is a fine line of how much bead to roll in. Phillip ,I was registered once, then the board changed.Does this really make a difference?

eddie my wheele went plenty high and i dient see it comeing down untill i discovered it was missing and for some reson decided to look up , at this time it was still 30 feet hi and heading for the hood of my car, made a good dent in it too!
was cloase to takeing out the windshield as well!
did i mention it was on fire as well! heh heh that boom brought out all my nabors!
maybe we should tie a rope threw the rims and arround the tires to prevent them from going skywards if they blow,
just dont anker the other end of the rope to your foot!!!

Eddie, that is why a lot of atv dealers and manufacturers have tire cages. Very common for a tire to blow now and then. Take your tires to be mounted by a pro. Also, if the tires are old and brittle, don't even bother. If you want to do it yourself, use a lot of soapy water and use a piece of high pressure hose and a lock on air chuck so you can stand back far enough in case there is a problem. That is what I do.

Preston, the wheels made for RI are not available for anyone to buy (except through RI). It is what is called a contract (proprietary rights) and when a company pays $30k for tooling for each size wheel (8" and 12") for their vehicle, they don't want anyone selling them. I'm sure Richard can get them from RI as well to sell to all of us if we choose to contact him. There are manual (bolt on) bead lock type wheels made out of aluminum (like the ones used for racing and on the rock crawlers), but at $200+ a pop and you have to re-drill the centers to fit and Argo or Max bolt pattern, it may not be worth it.

Hey, no matter what we ride, lets have fun. When one has a problem, no matter what brand, get 'er fixed and back on the trail. That is what is great about the aatv community, just a bunch of nice people.

hi phillip, i was pointing out that although max has an 8" and 12" rims for there vehicles and any other who can use them,
but also that there needs to be a 9" available, threw whoever makes em available,
so argos can also mount there factory sized tires,
arnt the 25" rawhideIII's for bigfoot's on a 9"rim"?
they defenaly would benifit from the best beadlock design the k-rim represents,
(i was not refering to depth of rims, just circumfrences,)and thanks, i guess i enjoyed the reminder about the flameing tire too!

David--Yup. had to check my handy,ARGO "explore the possibilities" literature. Shows the Bigfoot and 6 wheel Conquest wear 9inch diam. rims. Just like you said. The 26inch goodyears on a Max IV are a lot faster in the water, but I think they would ride a lot softer if they made them for an 8 inch rim.

I took a rim and tire off my MaxII to a "pro", Kawasaki dealer and all they did was give it to some kid who used a pneumatic tire changer to chunk the bead. I finally replaced the tire using a mini tire changer from Harbor Freight for $39. Once I learned how, replacing a tire is easy, getting the outside bead on being a little tricky. I found that pushing the bead that is on the rim down to the center of the rim allowed pulling the rest of the bead over with little effort and bead lube helps. When the tire is off the rim, clean and paint it. Gemplers Rust Converter make a good primer.
