Greetings,

I have a Max IV and my neighbor just gave me a large piece of plexiglass 1/4" thick that I would like to modify as a windshied.

I have the stock roll bar on, so I have decisions to make here.

I can easily make some holes and mount with velcro, but I would rather have a slot for the bottom of the windshield to better hold in place.

Any ideas would be appreciated.

I do believe you can get "C" channel aluminum down to that size, easy to work with, should be available at your local metal shop.

I would not use Plexiglass, Lexan is better. Plexi can shatter and the colder the temp the great the chance you have for it to shatter and do some serious harm.
So, look in to lexan, it can handle abuse better.

Guest,I used alum. chan glued to lexan and short self tapping short screws in the alum. frame.DRILL STARTER HOLES IN LEXAN along with alum! For saftey I took exh. pipe pcs. 1/2'' larger in dia. than roll bar x 3'' long.sliced, flattened 1/2''so it holds on to bar almost 60% of dia.put black foam to cushion where it wrapped the roll bar and made pcs. for ea. corner of the winshield. Now if you hit the winshield with your head it will de-tach.The only down side is I can't transport the machine with the winshield on. O yeah part of the clamp device will be attached to the glass itself with wing nuts with the holes slotted in the clamp so you can tighten and snug securely around the roll bar.My luggage rack keeps it from dropping downward but I'm sure you can think of something.Post back if un clear.

Dennis,

Sounds like a neat job....

I just cut the plexi to about 2 inches wider than the roll bar and drilled four holes (two on each side) and attached the plexi with safety ties. If I need to remove it, then all I need to do is cut the four ties. Not pretty, but effective.

I just wanted to take the wind off of me during the winter months when I ride the IV out on the lake.

I hear you, I never thought moving at only 10 to 15 m.p.h. ears could get so cold. You still might want to frame it or at least reinforce the area where you drilled the holes with wood or another ply of lexan.I build vacume boxes out of lexan/plexi glass and drilled holes are the first place they fail. The stuff is pretty flexable as a whole but a small area is still brittle, being from the hole to the edge.Good luck fishing I'll be on a lake in the Anderondacks middle of Jan.
