Hi can anyone help me please. Iam 15 yrs old and have just bought my first argocat but I do not know the model? the engine turns over but has no spark as all the wiring has been ripped out and I dont know were to start. Parts in scotland very difficult to get aswell. she looks poor but all chains and sprockets are ok and the body shell is intact. Can I tube the tyres?

Thanks for any help, from my dad says Mad Matthew..

Yeah since your tires have separate rims you can probably put tubes in them

Mat, yes, you can tube the tires, and they still look somewhat useful for water also, some tread left on them. This one looks like its either a ARGO 6 twin or ARGO 6 heavy duty- i'd say its a vanguard early model but the steering was on the other side on those machines. I'll get back to you on the model unless someone beats me to it-

the plug in the photo i believe is from the stator it will have two yellow wires and a green ignition kill wire this plug fits onto a plug on the voltage regulater its that aluminum box bolted to the flywheel shroud.then there will be two wire coming off this regulater 1 red=batery + and the green ignition ground.

the moter is a oh160 tecumsa,i would check the compression ,a lot of times these old cast iron moters might only need a set of rings to get them to one stop smoking and two get the compression back.i have this moter in all my machines and i like them.

If you're into newer engines you might want to look into it. I just bought a 13 hp Honda GX390 used for like $228. Might not be worth messing with the old Tecumseh. Not saying they're junk or anything, but if you have to rebuild it...

the compression in the tecumseh is fantastic, I think it must have had a rebuild at some time or very little use.

Its just that there is no spark and the fuel is not getting into the float bowl, but the fuel pump seems to suck ok.

Hopefully the help with wiring up should solve the spark problems any further advice welcome?

with the wiring disconnected you should have spark if not you have isolated it to the moter, there are 2 pins on the flywheel 1long and 1 short make sure they are both there.they are behind the ring gear for the starter.a forien object could have gotten stuck and removed the pin you might have a ground in the ignition wire from the coil to the stater, whene you installed the new coil did you set the air gap to the long pin?

Try this site for a manual.
I bought mine here and it's been very helpful.

the two pins on the fly wheel are there but I think the long one is damaged as they appear to be almost the same lenghth. Does it matter and can you change the pins as I DO HAVE AN old wheel and pins are good but the magnets are knackered.

what should the air gap be set at? still cant work out why no fuel is coming through, pump on the carb seems to be in good condition?

does it need an in line primer?

thanks again for any help, Mat.

there is at least an 1/8 inch differance..005 to .012 is the setting between the coil and the long pin.yes you can change the pins the book says to hold with channel locks twist an pull up.if the pins breaks it can be drilled out.

I got a mini electric fuel pump from Advance auto parts and a regulator for it. It'll go down to .5 PSI, in .5 PSI increments. In another thread, ODG themselves said an electric pump is fine as long as it isn't over 1.5 PSI.

So there you go.

Mat Brooks, I did some searching with ODG and from what I understand, the earlier 6x6 twins used that old 16 techumseth engine. Their was one model 8x8 that also had that engine but it didn't last long- I believe it was the 8x8 heavy duty which was replaced with the 8x8 I/C a few years later. I dug up some old diagrams with those old tech engines and some of the wiring diagrams, if I can get home in good time tonight i'll try to scan and e-mail them to you.

Fuel pump is by Mr. Gasket. Came in a plastic blister package. Regulator was similar. It's universal and I don't think it's listed for a specific vehicle
