On a recent trip I came across an abaondon car body blocking a trail .So I decided to pull the car body out of the way .So I hooked up my winch ,made sure nothing would hold the body back . The second I got tension on the cable something popped the moter kept turning just fine .The planetaries still turned just the drum wasn't turning .I checked the pin you pull to freewheel the drum and it was fine .Disconnected from car ,winch pulled cable back in just fine .Found when there is more then about 250 lbs of pressure holding the cable the winch just spins .This is a Super winch x2 .has anyone ever had this problem? I have taken the winch apart and found the roatating drive assembly is 2 piece ,one aluminum connecting to steel where the sping is housed for the pull knob to free wheel.Looks like this could be the culprete ,just haven't confirmed it yet .

Matt: Your winch is toast. The last one I put on lasted about 2 minutes. It blew all the gears out but it was still under warranty so no problem. Check price of parts and if you can get them.

I tried to get in touch with superwinch this morning .Found they don't even have a 1-800 number .I'm really not willing to sit on hold forever on my dime.If someone has a 1-800 number for them it would be good for all of us to know.I have a feeling I'm just going to be better off bitting the bullet and buying a warn winch and adapting it to the front of my Argo .

my superwinch got to were it would not pick up the snow blade with out viberating the argo so i took it apart it had some bushing wore out and some teeth missing on the ring gear at that point it would not pull a sick woman of ilrepute off a biodregradable waste pot so i changed it with a 3500 warn remote wireless winch and so far have pulled out a loaded ulitey trailer that had flat tires and a dead jeep out of a mud hole it worked great and have been used two winters with out a hitch one it would seem that the bottem line is we get what we pay for

Thanks for all the great replies .I still haven't been able to get ahold of Superwinch .So I've been thinking my best option is to by a warn or Ramsey 3000lb winck and build an adapter mount to fit my argo .does anybody know what the differnce between warn and ramsey is .both look the same ,both priced the same.Is is just like chevy and gmc,or peterbuilt and kenworth .

Good news two weeks ago I did finally get ahold of super winch and talked with them about what had happened to my winch .After a friendly conversation with the service rep.A replacment part was in the mail free of charge .I gave Super winch all the numbers from the winch and time and who the winch was purchase through .They said they will keep the info tosee if there might have been a bad batch of parts made or if mine was just a fluke defect.i think just for future precation I will make a double line set up and that way just in case I really ever need it .The winch will have less of a chance to fail
