okay so i found a max IV behind a barn, its prett complete, except it is missing the motor and the motor cover. the tub seems to be pretty complete and the seats look decent. it even has the roll cage and seat belts. from what i have read i found these rigs have a t-20 and usually a 18hp briggs or kohler. the tranny lookscomplete and it has the trans side clutch pulley.
it is red so this means it is from 69-79 right?
my guess is it has been parked behindthis barn for probably 15 yearsif not more. i know for sure its been there more than 10 years.
it has all the chains and levers, but is missing like the ignition and the headlights(round). it even has all 6 tires and wheels.
so how much is it worth? how much do i offer the guy? i was thinkin like 50 bucksdoes this sound like good deal?
my plan.
im poor and still in high school, but i want to tackle this anyway. i figure i can save almost every part on it and what i cant save i can make some kind of custom homemade job. little stuff like cables i can do with hardware store stuff.
about the motor..
for free i can get a craftsman lawn trctor with a 12.5hp vert shaft and a 6 speed transaxle. so with this i could convert to horizontal with the axle and using the gearing and extrapulleys i could squeeze some power from the little mill.
OR
i could get an old motorcycle and rig up something either with or withoutthe bike trans.
im in the northwest so there arent many snowmobiles round here, but motorcycles are apleanty.
welding and fabricating is no real issue niether are mechanics. money however is an issue especially since its just toy( no big vangaurds for me!!)
sorry to dissapoin that i wont be doing a real restoration, but hopefully ill fallin love and keep it so i can o itright someday, but right no i just really want to play!!

Go ahead and offer $50, it can't hurt. Most likely you are not the first person to discover it behind the barn. Probably the person doesn't want to sell it. But it doesn't hurt to try.
You can power the machine with just about anything but if you are on a budget you might really want to consider something else such as saving your money for college or using it for car insurance or for fuel.
The amphibious Atv's are a lot of fun but they are also a lot of work. I would imagine you would have to put a lot of time into it and more money than you think. And it will be broken down more than you have it running. |

I'm 17 and fixed up my Amphicat.
$50 sounds right.
Nothern Tool and/or Harbor Freight has vertical shaft to horizontal converter gearboxes. |
