Hi Guys, great site! I have always wanted a 6 wheeler. A guy has one for sale just down the road from me. Looks like a max2, 93 or 94, for $3,000. Does this sound a little high? He says it's in great shape.
Bigger question, I'm a quadraplegic that uses an electric wheelchair. Do these 6 x 6's use any type of foot pedals? I always thought they were operated totally by hand. The guy I talked to mentioned something about a clutch. What is the purpose of this if the trany doesn't have gears, or does it? When I do buy one I will probably have to mount a bucket seat with belts so I don't fall out :D Has anyone done this?
Lastly, can anyone give me the basics on how these thing work. They seem fairly simple.
Thanks for any info you can give.

The price sound about right if it is in great shape. Check the sprocket and axle bearing for wear. You can put alot of money in replacing them. Check body over for cracks and holes if you plan on going in the water. Most can be patched/repaired. Make sure it drives straight. If it doesnt it could be an adjustment or a problem.
I have never had a max but I beleive that all 6x6 are operated by hand with a few that have a foot(parking)brake. Those that did have a foot brake you dont need to use to operate the six wheeler.
I cant remember who it was but I did see a picture of someones max4 that they removed the front seat. Then installed a suspension type bucket seat in the front. Of coarse you do lose some seating capacity but the ride was better and with seatbelts could hold you in place. I dont think you could do that with the max2 but seatbelts could be added. Somebody with max2 experince can help more on that.

We had a couple of MAX owners who wanted to do the Rubicon Run with us ARGO owners this past AUG 2005, they both chickened out. MAX is a recreational vehicle... ARGOS are an industrial grade vehicle. Get the MAX but do not complain when it lets you down. I suggest you look for a used ARGO. |

jimmy i have sean a number of PARAPLEGIC'S useing 6x6 machines, mostly tim okeef for example drives a totaly unmodifyed argo with exeption of seatbelts only to keep him in driveing position, and it is typicle bench seat.
ocationaly he dosent even buckle in.
i added a seatbelt to my maxII for his use and he did take it for a spin once, he liked my machine just fine, so you should be ok if you have use of arms @ hands and back. BUT DON'T GO RIDEING ALONE!
TIM found out how easy it is to do stupid things like highcenter on a rock or something.
he did find some solutions:
for example he got a grapple for his winch line he has bin able to toss out and hook up to stuff to pull himself out of some stupid situations with, (another such device is called "pullpall")
but he has also often had to call his wife on celphone(and we all know they sometimes cant find service)can you imagin that? his wife has gone lookin threw the woods for him so she could walk threw mud and stuff to help him winch from stupid situations on many ocations, im afraid if this was myself a wife would hang up with me and just call inshurance agent! |

YOU may also want to look at the new Argo Avengers. They have a steering sytem more like a motorcycle and it is a lot easier to work than the older pull levers of the Conquests. You can actually drive with one hand instead of two all the time. My wife is 100% disabled also and the Argo is our means of getting her out into the woods. If you do put in seat belts, put on a roll cage. You can put straps on the roll cage which will help with moving and getting in and out. I heard one person pulled the front seat and put in bucket seats to help stay in place. Keep in mind unfelt injuries to the lower body. Extra padding is a good idea to protect the knees. |
