Howdy. I just got an Amphicat fixer upper.
I'd like to ask about the seals of the square bearing assemblies. The ones that are on the outside of the "tub" (hull). The material is of black rubber and looks a lot like tire inner tube material.
They look to be in decent shape but since the machine is pretty much all apart (the "sled" with the frame, engine, tranny, sprockets, etc is out of the hull) I thought that maybe I should replace them for good luck. Should I get like a used tractor tire tube and cut out some new seals/gaskets or use something else? Hell, can I use like blue RTV sealant there?

the outer seals i have sean are some hard plastic, i hope someone has info to share here about them because i think there a special item only amphicats ever had, so unless mr clark has them im worried there inposable to find. |

Odd. For sure, they're black rubber on mine. I'm speaking of the square aluminum bearing things (the ones with grease zerks), for clarification.
Someone mentioned RTV for another machine. I think I'll use that, unless someone suggests otherwise. |

My brother works at a metal fabricating shop and has a laser cutter. He cut some out using a mud flap. It is a tight fit around the axles so it should work great. Some mud flaps are plastic and some are a harder rubber, we used a softer rubber. The laser cutter is computerized and cuts exact but with care it can be done other ways. I am not saying it would work but what if you pressed the rubber between two boards and then drilled the axle hole. What was in mine when I got it was thicker that a innertube but that might work to. |
