anybody out there noticed any improvement or benifit of a mech. fuel pump(driven off rocker arm)over a pulse(crank case vacum)on a kohler command 20/25hp.parts dealer says there is, but that doesn't mean it's justifiable for our application.kit is approx. $75.00,pulse replacement$35.00. |

I cut and paste this from the "tips" section found on the home page of ROUTE 6X6. I bet one could be wired to shut off with low fuel pressure but then starting it might be a problem. (There are some links in that cut and paste that might not work so to see the picture you might have to go to the tips section)
FUEL PUMP
This question comes up all the time, Upon restoring a ATV many people want to know if they can install a electric fuel pump instead of the pulse pump originally installed. The answer is NO, not under any condition. Why: The carburetors that are used in most all ATV's require only about 1 PSI to operated the float. If one installs a electric pump then you will have about 5 PSI, which will flood the carburetor. If this is left unchecked the fuel will overflow and perhaps catch on fire. This happens a lot, Check out this red ARGO 6. Another problem is a electric pump will not stop running until the switch is turned off, where as a pulse pump will stop when the engine stops.
Yes: MAX'S burn too! I bought both the burned machines, BOTH had a electric fuel pump installed by a unsuspecting person, both machines backfired and fuel from the carburetors burned with the fuel pumps still running |

kholer used a mechanical pump just like cars had whene they had carburators,this pump should be fine they where use a lot on garden tracters if the tank was below carb level |

\Thanks anonymous,that makes sense thats probably why i was told a mech. pump was better.my orig. pulse pump was cracked from day 1,always wondered why i cut out down hill on steep grades and lacked full power.found the crack and replaced pump.dealer had to order mech. pump but i couldn't wait,always wondered if i should have gone with the mech..epoxyed the crack now thats my field spare |
