I have been around atv's my whole life, I must say that the Argo product line has always been the best that I have seen as far as durablilty, comfort, and a all around atv in it's class, When Argo introduced the Avenger I said to myself what a great unit, A friend of mine bought one and I must say the quality that Argo put into there vehicles in the past is NOT in this unit, My friend has had only problems with it, he has had bearing problems, chain problems, Argo had a recall on the new style steering only a couple of months after it was introduced, the chain tentioners Does NOT work most of the time, I must say if Argo does not put more effort into this unit like they have in the past, What other problems will occur and it also makes me wonder if they will lack in the units on their product line that they have now..This message is just a warning to those thinking of buying this unit..please do your research before you spend your money..

Thanks Sam for your unbiased opinion on your "Buddys" Argo. I have had my avenger since april of this year and it is buttery. It is my first AATV so I can't compare it to your Max. It is one awesome machine. In and out of everything. I spend a lot of time in it in water and have a outboard on back. I was suprised how stable they are. I first thought it would be like a bath tub in the water. Anyways, I have found that the Avenger is a sweet machine and I have not encountered any problems yet.

Sam, I have to be curious as to who your buddy is? I have sold a lot of the Avengers, and have seen very little trouble with them. They did have the steering recall, it was because of a part moving that would allow the handle bar to sit crooked. The tensioner,s are the same thing that has been on all the Argo,s for five years, and they have worked great. The only chain trouble that we have seen on the Avenger was a drive chain, the master link came out. Have seen No bearing trouble.

I have a Conquest right but am seriously considering moving up to the Avenger. I use tracks about 50% of the time and heard that they are putting a "link" in the new rubber track so that it can come on and off easier. Also, any word on a bigger, 30+ hp engine in the near future?

Ed, I have flooded timber that I have run the Argos in for fifteen years. I have always managed to get through it, but you could tell the Conquest, and the Response were working hard to do it. The Avenger goes through it like it is nothing. I have not run tracks on an Avenger yet, I really do not think that I have any area,s around me that I would have to have them. I suggest that unless you want the tracks for snow, that you try the Avenger without the tracks, you can always add them later. I have two very nice used Avengers, in stock. 24hrs on one, 12hrs on the other.

Hey Fred: So the Avenger is superior to the others in the flooded timber? In what way, cause of the additional HP or tires, etc.?

Tom, I can only assume that it is the larger tires, and maybe the ground clearance. All I can tell you is the way it performed in an area that I run in all the time. I have milo planted in the open areas, duck food, I was spraying round-up on weeds in the place this past week-end. Not much water or mud there right now, you could even get through it on a 4-wheeler !!!!!!!!!!!!!

Fred,
The reason that I run with tracks is that in Michigan's UP, we have a lot of peat bogs and the mud can be over 3 feet deep. Also the snow in the winter is very deep, 3+ feet. My Conquest has never really let me down but going up hill in deep snow usually is a pain. Any word on the improved tracks for the 25" tires? How about some more HP in the future, 27 or 31 HP?

Hey Ed: Do you have the rubber or the plastic tracks? And how much water are you running through? As I've found out with my response that running with tracks through the water is like a "sow on ice". You basicly have no control in water with tracks, what a pain. But does help in the mud.

Ed, I have not heard anything from ODG about more HP. They do have a higher geared tranny for Avenger, a little less speed, but more power, torque. I have not had the chance to run one, but I have talked to one of the dealers, who has, he was very pleased with it.
I can not tell you much about the Avenger tracks, have not sold a set, so I have not put any on yet. Not many areas here that would require them.

I heard from a tech at Argo World in Mich. about the more HP and the new removable link for the rubber track. I was looking for some confirmation. Also, I don't run the tracks in water, just deep mud & snow. I have the plastic super tracks. The mud is so soft that you can run over a 3 inch dia tree that is 15 feet tall and after you go bye, it just pops right back up!

I love tree stories, the co-owener of our max 4 was exploring canada's out back with a16ft. canoe tied to the top, driving down an old trail over grown with alders. He was cool pushing them down but they didn't pop all way back up.unfortunately he had to take the same way back,he said it was like 100's of spears being thrown at him for 10 miles.New story ,same guy.He tried to run down a tree and found himself 90 degrees hanging on to the tree so he would't flip back while trying to get in reverse,no easy task. Now let go of the tree to pull the sticks back.

I have noticed some few comments on 6X6 in the deep snow. I am very much interested in anyone w/ experience in running any 6X6 in snow 3-5 FEET deep. I am interested in serious, informed comments as this is a safety issue for 1-2 people headed out in extreme conditions to very remote locations and I am worried about the advertized abilities such as "go anywhere" and "with tracks, it will never get stuck". I also realize that some of this comes down to the driver's ability, but we'll have to learn as we go... Ed Simon, I'd be especially interested in your UP opinion since we are talking about the UP.

Marc,
I also answered you on the Tracks subject. We have a winch on our 8 x 8 and it is a Godsend!
They will go through the 3 - 4 feet deep snow but I am not sure about a 6 x 6. I think they would be ok since even though they don't have as much of a pad, they are lighter. We usually have a old Bravo snowmobile with us too! They are light and cheap.

Marc,my max 4 is used 50% of the time in snow, pleasure and for utility.the bigger the motor the more you can do,tracks eat power. My co-owner and I found it's all about snow texture, hard packed depth is not a factor, dry cold granular is like paddling thru marbles.soft powder well I already had snow billow over the dash while I was packing it down. You might find soft spots in the forest that trap your machine, where as your looking at a wall of snow in front of you as well as behind you.I would say if you had a winch you won't be stranded but you might not continue your journey thru the undesirable snow.It sounds like your planning some cold weather adventures? Some other factors of cold weather operations ,throttle heater, a way to quick release choke cable to operate in case it freezes, spare batt. to jump off or double up on to winch, winshield and at least a tarp cover over your roll bar to cut wind(at 15mph it's still cold)and don't forget to drain melted snow out of the machine so you don't find your chains frozen in ice the next morning. If your running a kohler motor you might want to run the hot air kit that sends warm air to the air cleaner my machine can cool down in zero degree weather just by idling so the choke has to be reset and the warming process starts all over.If it sounds like this machine sat on frozen lakes and in the woods in extreme cold for nights it has.

RUBICON RUN EXPERIENCES. I have a Conquest and got to see the Avengers run over the Rubicon during the past two years. First I would like to say I LOVE MY CONQUEST...but if I had the money, I would trade immediately for the Avenger. Why? The Avenger has a better angle of attack and departure due to the new wheel arangement. What they could go up straight, I had to take at an angle. When the difference is being at the middle of a narrow trail and at the edge, the middle is better. I had to be at the edge to get grip to get over some rocks that the Avenger could take head on. Second, the Avenger pivots on the middle four wheels. This means less wear and tear on the outer wheels, making all the wheels last longer. Also, the pivot is in the middle of the machine so the rear end does not swing as wide. May not be a concern for the driver, but those riding in the back sure do notice a difference. Not to mention less chance of whacking the rear end on stuff as you do a hard turn. The Mechanicals are better also. The battery in my Conquest is under a small hood opening and a bear to get at, the Avenger has it under the seat. Plus the extra horse power of the Avenger is good. Like I say, if I had the money, I would trade immediately to an Avenger but as it is, I am working on supping up my Conquest.... 40 MPH in high range? Who said that?

The Avenger is an impressive machine for sure. At the Ledges ride Greg took us on a night ride I will never forget. Though swamps, in and out of creeks, winched up a three foot vertical incline, turned around on side hills that would have had my Max II upside down- all accomplished with FIVE adults on board!!If you want to have fun with the whole family along, the Avenger is the vehicle to have. Very impressive.

I can't wait to see one of these avengers. All the trail rides I've been on with the club it seems all max 2's &4's, argos 6x6&8x8's and vintage makes it,some just shine in certain given trail conditions.there was a mud hole at 1 ride all types of max's made it,8x8's didn't even try,argo6x6's had their passengers on the hood.On one trail ride all argos and max2's made the short rutted incline why couldn't my max 4 do it?,because my short bulldog front end was unable to glance of the tree near the top of the incline to pop out of the rut like the other machines did.It would be nice if we had a dash switch that could select max2,max4,argo 6x6&8x8.So the search goes on for the ultimate machine.

AVENGER. If you are tempted to get a 6x6 instead of forking out the cash to get the AVENGER, DON'T DO IT!!. The extra carrying capacity, climbing ability and stability of the 8x8 is more than worth the extra money. If you are tempted to get a 8x8 Conquest or Response because of financial concerns, talk to your dealer and maybe something can be worked out. The AVENGER is a lot better machine and you will kick yourself if you skimp to save a few bucks.

Gentlemen: I recently bought a 2006 Argo Avenger. Beginning this coming Spring, I will using it in a very remote location on a timber project. Question; Are there any necessary, emergency or speciality tools you would reccommend carrying and/or having in the shop for maintenance and/or repairs?

Any new Avenger stories? I've heard that the engine for 2006 now has 26 hp. Do you think that they will be going to 27-30 hp any time soon? Also, I've heard that the Argo Co. has new owners, same engineering dept.

New 2006 Avenger owner here. Had/have a Bigfoot and a Conquest. I would trade in both for one Avenger. And here's why:
- the new steering is great. Very smooth steering if a newbie is trying to work the sticks. But it is much more intuitive steering.
- the bigger tires are welcomed as we always had rim issues with the thinner rims on the conquest. Like a bigfoot, the tires appear to hold their air better.
- the ground clearance over the conquest is actually quite noticable even though it is technically only about an inch. But what they have done is mold the bottom skid so that it is not a flat bottom but has some channels in it creating more clearance.
- nothing noticable in the 26hp, but it climbs very well which I would attess to the larger tires.
- the windhshield is contoured on the top, a small item, but after busting 3 windsheilds because they are the same width as your machine gets annoying.
- the gearbox is very quiet, so much you hear the engine more
- the electrical connections can acutally be accessed without using your childs hands. Lots of room to add on accessories
- better visibility as the ride height is definitely higher than a conquest, and not just becuase of the tires. The body seems to sit up higher.

Issues:
- I still wish Argo would do something with the seat to offer some sort of better suspension. That's on my wish list.

The rubber track is now split to facilitate easier installation.

I as well heard that Argo has new owners but have not been able to find anything out about it.

The Avenger has been a great upgrade for us.
