Hello all,
I have learned a great deal about my machine and repairs etc. from this site. Its been great. I just got my '93 Max IV running well, I had adjusted the transmission plungers following all of the advice on this site. Yesterday, everything was working fine, ran the machine all day. Went to load it up and found I have no reverse on the left stick, thought that maybe the gear shifter was hitting the front seat, and tried to adjust in order to make sure that I was getting shift collars into reverse gear. I just put in brand new shift collars. I have strong forward, brakes in both sticks in forward. When in reverse and I pull back on left stick, nothing happens, when I pull back on right stick machine works. Any advice, thoughts. The sticks both have the same travel, so it doesn't seem that a band broke. I need to get this thing moving again and I need reverse. Thanks!!! |

Gary, did you put in shift collars (inside tranny) or shifter levers (with diamond piece that linkage hooks to)? Sounds like the shifter lever pin has broken off.
If you just changed the diamond shifter, it is possible you have a chunk out of your shift collar that broke your new pin. When you pull the shifter lever to check the pin, rotate the shift collar by hand and make sure there are no rough spots or chunks out of the shift collar. Also when you have the shifter out, use a screwdriver and slide the shift collar over to see if it goes in reverse. If your pin is Ok, it is possible that you have a rough spot on the shifter or in the case that is binding. Use lots of Vaseline around the o-ring to keep the shifter moving freely. |
