I live and drive my Max II in an area full of hedge trees, wild roses, locust trees and dewberry bushes. Thorns are everywhere.

I use a product called "Slime" in my tractor tires to prevent flats, and am wondering if it is something that I want to do in my Max. I heard that the low tire pressure coupled with the lubricity of the Slime will cause the wheels to spin within the tires in high traction situations.

Does anyone have any experience or suggestions for me? I have kept my driving on the trails to avoid the thorns, but there is a lot of unexplored thorn country on my place that I would like to play on.

Thanks,

Bud

Bud, It is my experience that as long s your beads are set good and tight, the tire sealant is fine (to use against hazzards as you described). It is those using the sealant to stop bead leaks that are defeating their purpose. Tire sealant between the rim and the tire will prevent the bead from sealing (If one has that problem, the need a bead sealer or gllue of some sort.

I was the one that told Bud about tires spinning on the rim with tire slime. I had this problem with my '99 Max II and had to buy one new tire because of it. You might help the situation by running no less than 3psi in your tires. Mine were flat most of the time and only a good, dry k-rim will allow that. I would just ride the machine though anything and if you get a flat, use the slime. I ran my tires flat on purpose so I can assure you, getting one flat on the trail won't bother anything. Those Rawhide III tires are extremely tough. The only flat I ever got on my machine was from a nail, one time in three years.

Bud
Try puting an extra 5 psi in your tires.
The extra pressure will help hold tires.
I would claen all the slime off the bead
areas of the rims, as you are correct it will
act as a lub when between the tire and rim
in the bead lock area.

All else fails get some bead glue from a
farm tire dealer, paint it on the cleaned bead
areas of the rim, also the tire bead, let it dry for
about 30m then inflate and let set overnight
then run 6-8psi in the tires, I bet this will fix
your problem too, be careful with this black
stuff as it gets everywhere.

Rick,
6-8 lb. is a rough ride.
I use slime in my tires, and I swear buy it. I have three tires with plugs in the side, and they always leaked a little before the slime in the tires, now they dont. and fred you are definatly right about the bead leaking and using slime to seal it, waste of time and money, I learned that one the hard way. Just got done dismounting my last tire and cleaning the bead this evening, what a pain in the...

Thanks for the input, folks.

Not doubting your good advice, Brandon. :) I just remenber the problems that I had with my old ATV in always having to repair or eventually replace thorn-ridden tires until I slimed them.

I'll run the Max through the rough stuff without slime and report back on what happens. Let's see how tough those Rawhide IIIs are...

BUD AS LONG AS YOUR ONLY WORRIED ABOUT THE RIMS SPINING IN YOUR TIRES I GUESS I CAN OFER AN IDEA,
I HAVE TRYED IT MYSELF AND IT WORKS, I HAVE ALSO SEAN OTHERS TRY IT TOO, GOT A FEW THANKS FROM SOME OF THEM TOO! AND ONE GUY EVEN TRYED TO SELL ME ON THE IDEA, I GUESS HE DIDENT LOOK AT MY WHEELS, WELL HERES THE IDEA:
I DRILLED THE SIDES OF MY RIMS WITH 1/8" SELF TAPING SCREWS 3/8" LONG, LONG ENOPH TO GET A BITE ON TIRE BEADS BUT NOT LONG ENOPH TO PENETRATE TIRES, I DID IT TO PROTECT MY TUBES FROM STEMS RIPING OFF, IV 38HP IN MY MAXII (SOME TIMES) HEH HEH,I LIKE TO PULL WHEELYS WITH IT AND THE SCREWS KEEP EVERYTHING LIGNED UP GREAT,ITS TOUGH TO CHAING A TUBE WHEN IT BECOMES NESESARY BUT IM STILL SOLD ON THE IDEA, I PUT 8 PER SIDE BUT IT MIGHT WORK WELL ENOPH WITH SCREWS ON ONLY 1 SIDE, I'L TRY IT SOME TIME UP THE ROAD WHEN I SET UP SOME MORE TIRES N RIMS,
P.PS. THE TUBES AND SCREWED RIMS ALOWED ME TO RUNN 2.5 PSI AND THATS SO LOW THE WETHER CAN CHAINGE THE PSI IN YOUR TIRES, IT REQUIRES CHECKING THEM BEFORE YOU RIDE AND ADJUSTING SOME TIMES, IF YOU DO GET A FLAT I FOUND THE SCREWS KEEP THE TIRES GOIN AROUND SO THEY STILL WORK FOR RATHER THAN AGENCED YOU

david,
how do you pull a wheely? do you just mash the motor from a standstill, or rev the motor and pop the laterals? i would like to try a wheelie in my 900-t but im scared to rev the motor and jam the laterals forward, i dont know how the t-20 will handle it.

WELL I REV MY ENGINE AND THEN MASH THE LATERELS, BUT YOU SHOULD NOT EVEN THINK ABOUT DOING THIS WITH A 4 STROKE ENGINE LIKE A BRIGGS, THE T-20 CAN HANDLE IT BUT THE REVING OUT OF YOUR ENGINE IF IT IS A 4 STROKE MIGHT BLOW IT UP!
THE ONES WITH WORKING GOVENERS MIGHT ONLY REV A LITTLE BEFORE THE GOV, STOPS THE ENGINE FROM RUNNING AWAY, THOUGHS WITH GOVENERS THAT DON'T WORK WELL AND THOUGHS THAT HAVE BIN BYPASSED WILL REV HIGHER THAN THE WEEK VALVE TRAIN IN 4 STROKS CAN HANDLE THUS SCATERING YOUR INVESTMENT ALL OVER KINGDOM COME!
NOW IF YOU PUT A RACEING REVE KIT IN YOUR BRIGGS CONSISTING OF HEAVEY DUTY CONECTING RODS AND REAL STEAL (CROME MOLLY)PUSHRODS, AND REAL VALVE RETAINERS INSTED OF STOCK STAMPINGS THEN SKYS THE LIMMIT ON YOUR REVES, WATCH YOUR TACK STILL SO YOU DON'T BLOW IT AND MASH AWAY AT YOUR LATERRELS,
THE REVE KITS CAN BE BOUGHT FROM 600.COM OR MAYBE IT'S 600RACEING.COM
2 STROKES LIKE MINE REVE EXTREEMLY HIGH!
CONCIDER THIS HOWEVER, I HAVE BEATEN MY MAX II BADLY NOW FOR 9 YEARS, NOW IT'S NOT RUNNING,

bud and dave.

i seen a pic of dave burger's idea in the route6x6 how to section (i think it was in the how to section.)

here's another idea from those horrible 4wd's
convert you'r rims to bead lockers then you can run them with 1/2 psi or no air pressure (if you want) most 6x6's run 3 psi

hope this helps e-mail if you want more details.

I am familiar with beadlocks; I used to have them on a "built" 4x4 that I had a few years back. I had no idea that they manufactured them in sizes that would fit a Max.
