Can anybody tell me what battery the Max IV has in it? Is it a 6 or 12 volt? A major brand number would be greatly appreciated so I can cross-reference it. Thanks much. Ron |

it should use a lawn and garden battery. there are usually two different ones i think. one has a higher cold cranking amps than the other one. its a 12 volt.they both should fit. measure the approximate size of your battery box then check out those lawn and garden tractor batteries. |

12 volts, deep cycle marine batteries are the best to use. |

I tried a lawn and garden battery from wal-mart, guess what it was a 6-volt!!! Same as size as the one that was in it. Back to the drawing board. Ron |

12 volts. Autozone has the size you need. They have 2 kinds, one is I think 220 CCA's and the onther is 425 CCA's. I am not sure of the CCA's but one is less then factory and the other has more then the factory batteries. They work great. |

Do not use marine batteries for starting purposes, they are designed for low amperage draw and do not provide high enough cold cranking amps.Just because a marine battery is bigger and has a higher amp rating don't mean it will whip your engine over at - degree temps. Hope this helps. Eddie |

ron when you retern the battery to wallmart get the 12v one, they have same size in 12v too! |

Dave, a big problem I noticed with Wal-Mart is that it doesn't state anywhere on the battery what voltage they are!! Do you have any hints on how to tell. Thanks to everybody for the info.

Wal-Mart usually has a battery guide available in the auto section, either electronic display or good old paper. It should list the battery group name and the data on the battery including the voltage. |

Count the cell caps(where you fill it with water) each hole is 2 volts. A 6 volt battery will have 3 holes, a 12 volt will have 6 |

Well fellas, I feel kinda of foolish about this but the first battery was probably alright cause I found I had a loose connection on the ground cable. Everythings working fine now. Thanks to all. Ron |
