Yep and it works very well. You can weld the body with a large soldering iron and some plastic buckets cut up in strips for filler rod. We used buckets from driveway sealer.

dt5428, just make sure the doner pastic containers are marked some where "HDPE". then let the irons heat sink into it and weld it like a gas torch with a circular motion.

Would you please tell me what brand and tip size of soldering iron you use for the plastic welding? I assume you feed in the HDPE "welding rod" as you would in gas welding to fill the voids?/BBC

I have a Chicago Electric plastic welder. They are only $30 from Harbor Freight. Basically it is a soldering iron that has air blowing around it. The hot air heats up the surrounding material and just like you said you feed some plastic rod or strip into the gap you are filling. It is sort of like brazing or mid welding. The best material to use is from the machine you are repairing. Sort of like doing a graft. Pull some material from the edge of the floorboards or other nonessential area. This way guarantees the same material and a color match.

I posted a link of plastic welding yesterday under a different topic. At the bottom of the page are links to a bunch of information on plastic welding and where to get supplies.
