I have an early Hustler that I recently bought. It runs great but when I turn from stopped I hear LOUD popping noises from inside the machine. It jerks a bit when doing this. Could that be sloppy chains? Functioning in forward or reverse the machine "jumps" at first, then pulls itself smoothly. Has the Borg-Warner T-20 trans. Any ideas about this problem, I'm new to the mechanics of these critters.

Jerry: I would jack one side up and turn the tires and look at the chains and sprockets at the same time. Sounds like worn out sprockets or rusty chains to me.

Jerry, My ARGO does the exact same thing. I can only hear it when I lean into the back compartment though and it does it really loudly under a heavy load. My middle chains are stretched a lot and the tensioners don't take the slack anymore. I think its either my tensioners getting flipped around or the chain snapping back when it catches up with the rest of them from being slack and tightening up. I have not bothered to pull the floor boards out and check though so I can't say for sure. Let me know what you come up with. djhkeeso@rogers.com
