I have just bought an ARGO Bigfoot and would like to put a winch on it. I assume that I have to buy the argo winch mounting kit, but can other winches be attached to it. Also, is an electric one necessary? Can't you accomplish the same thing with a manuel one? |

I had the mounting bracket welded with a bigger peace behind it and they welded some metal to the bracket to make it the some size as the other one. I put a ramsey 3000 lb cordless remote controled winch on my bigfoot.It's bigger than factory stuff,only thing i had to do was get longer bolts than they sent me to go threw the extra thickness.Rick |

Tom Moran, I think you are best to use an electric winch so you have the maximum power required for what you are using the winch for. Last year, when I pulled the sea-doo boat out of the water I used the ARGO magnum because it was on an unusually steep launch ramp that was ALL loose gravel. The weight of the boat and the trailor on the ARGO and the slippage of the gravel and tires, was just a little too much to get out. I could have done it fine if someone sat in the ARGO up front as my own weight wouldn't make much difference. I didn't want to drag my uncle in with me so I got him to hook the winch up to a tree at the top of the launch ramp and far enough back so that once the ARGO was at that tree, the trailor and boat were on flat ground. That winch used a ton of battery power on that one but because of the steepness of the ramp, without the winch, it could have been ugly. The van would have slipped down into the water with that much weight and the incline and although the argo probably could have done it, the power of the winch made a huge difference. If I had to cranck the winch manually, I would have died. The power in the winch is amazing and I would never use an ARGO without one attached. |

Yes you need the argo kit for internal bracing. It has the roller fairlead on the external bracket too. Some of us use the Warn atv winch. The bolt pattern is a little wider than the holes in the stock bracket.
If you don't want to spend the $ on brackets and winch, just use straps or cable and a come-a-long and pull from the axle extensions. They come in handy if you have to pull from the rear if you're riding alone. |
