I just bought a used Max IV and can not get it to turn in reverse. Do they turn in reverse? Also I want to make rollbar for it. Does anyone have a plan for making rollbar for a Max IV. One more question what's the cost for replacing the chains on a max IV. thanks for the information.

If your linkage isn't adjusted so that both sides engage reverse, it will be hard to turn, to turn in reverse you pull one side back and stop those wheels. Is it even going into reverse at all or does it just go straight, the brake bands may be out of adjustment, give us more infoo and we will get you bouncing.

It goes in reverse but only goes straight back. no problem turning when I go forward. thanks

Do you have brakes while going forward? Your forward brake bands are the reverse drive bands. Put the tranny in reverse and pull both sticks all the way back. Move one forward and it should stop that side and turn. In reverse, your sticks are opposite of what they were in forward.

Wolfgang, EL and Brandon are right on the money. If your machine works OK going forward, there is nothing internal that will keep it from working in reverse because the same parts have opposite functions. That is basically true for linkage too. Now, if your brakes don't work very well going forward, your drive might not work real well in reverse and if your drive slips going forward, your brakes might not work going backwards (this condition indicates your sticks have too much travel (not over 9.5") and need band adjustment). As long as there isn't something keeping your sticks from going all the way forward and all the way back, your machine should work exactly the opposite when in forward and reverse. The only thing that could possible be wrong is your bands are slightly glazed from not having complete contact or you don't have enough oil, have dirty oil or have the wrong kind of oil in your tranny.

Try from a stand still with your tranny shifted into reverse - leave the left stick forward (press it just a little forward to make sure it is in complete contact); pull the right stick back all the way (make sure it goes clear to the end of its travel and doesn't get stopped by the seat, your leg or your belly) and squeeze the throttle - your right side wheels should drive and your left side wheels should be braked. You have to realize that your sticks are your clutch - all the way forward is completely engaged, in the middle is neutral and all the way back is completely engaged (between neutral and fully engaged in both directions is partially engaged and your bands slip, amount of slippage dependent on how close to neutral or how close to fully engaged).
