can axle flange b rewelded,one of my mine broke
where the weld is on end of axle,if midwest see's
this fred i think u will remember that mine is
the max4 that has the big tires,hollow axles
anyway,hv been easy on it till i can replace with
solids,been out of town working so i hvnt
replaced them yet,thx mike |

yes the axel hub can be welded back on, i sugest ading gusets also from hub to the axel, these help in two ways,#1 thay help prevent woble if you bump the rim's agenst trees during turn for an example, (not to big of a problem)
#2 they also add strenth to the axel & hub weld as too make it an unbreakable unit!(wich is why i do it, i'v got 38hp) :-)
ps since you need to take it to a machine shop anyway to have them put it on a lathe and reweld the hub on- than ask them how much to do it right with a solid!!thay might just give you a nice quote! |

Mike, If it is still under warranty, call your dealer - they should replace it for free. If you bought direct from RI, call them and they will send you a new axle. If it is out of warranty, take it to a welding shop and have them insert a solid rod in the axle then reweld the flange and cut five triangle shaped gussets(about two inches on the 90 degree sides- go from the edge of the flange equa-distant along the axle) and weld then in between each lug bolt (have them burn clear through in a spot or two (middle of triangle and at the point of the triangle where it meets the axle)so you weld right to the solid rod). You will have a homemade (old style) solid axle that is probably stronger than the original "old style" solid axle. |

david,fred thks for response called ri they
r sending me a solid axle under warrenty,
my dealer has an older max in shop now that
has the gussets on axles ,i can c where they
would b a big improvement over mine,im just
going to make mine do till warrenty out then
replace with solids as needed.they said solids
r 3/4 longer but would work fine,thks again
