I drove home my first diesel pickup yesterday. It's a 2001 F-250 Powerstroke, super cab, auto, 4x4. I already put it to work today pulling my trailer with two Maxs to the Missouri Deer Classic hunting show in Columbia. The diesel pulled the 16ft tandem axle trailer like it wasn't even there. My old F-150 would bog and lose speed on hills on the interstate. I don't know if I'll ever be able to drive another gasser. I'm just now getting the feel of the Powerstroke and it is unbelievable. I get to put it to the test this Tuesday when I take a road trip to deliver a Max IV.

those fords have good power I have pulled all sorts of things that a pick up should never be able to do . some you wouldn't belive unless you saw it with you own eyes. I know once I had one of the trucks run out of fuel in the street in front of the truck stop . So i just hooked on a chain to the service truck , and pulled the tractor and the loaded trailer up to the fuel island . had it in granny to do it , but it pulled it.

Brandon,
Wise choice on the best pickup ever built. My cousin has a 96 with a power-stroke and 300,000 miles and it runs like the day he bought it. I pulled my 27 ft. inclosed trailer with the argos and all of me and my dads gear to haspin in January and it only downshifted out of overdrive one time at 72 mph. He has always pulled 10,000 lbs. with it so the tranny has been rebuilt twice, but pulling that weight I wouldn't complain.

What amazes me is they hardly takes any hit in gas mileage when towing.

Brandon,
Excellent choice and taste in your selection of trucks. Welcome to the club Amigo! Now we just have to figure out how to make these Ford Super Duties float, and figure out how to install a set of tracks on them, and we will have a new bread of Amphibians!

Brandon
Great choice in machines. I had a '96 F250 w the 7.3 powerstroke and have the 7.3 in my '01 Excursion.
I love the Powerstroke engine. Just make sure to change the oil properly. As long as the oil is clean it'll run forever.

Big Wolf,
Tracks have been figured out.

"MATTRACKS rubber track conversion systems transforms most 4x4 vehicles into a true all-terrain vehicle equipped with rubber tracks that will go almost anywhere and bring you back!"

http://www.mattracks.com/

I've seen this setup on quite a few blazers and pickups this winter. They are using them to groom snowmobile trails here in Maine.

Floating is still a problem.

The new ride looks sharp. I could not tell in the pictures so tell me how do you have those two machines on the trailer tied down?

Hey JBC,

Thank You for providing the web site information about the MATTRACKS products. That is an awesome web site and awesome products! They have some real cool video clips of F-Series Super Duty Trucks and a Hummer with track kits installed.

You guys have to check out their stuff, its awesome!

I have to tell you guys, after seeing this track product available for the Super Duty Trucks, it poses some serious questions and thoughts as to why we even bother to mess around with our "Brand X" tinker toy 6x6 and 8x8 ATV's.

I have no idea what the cost for this product is, but it sure looks cool! You guys would pass a watermellon or swallow your beer can whole, if I pulled in to one of these ATV off road ride events with my F-350 Turbo Diesel Crew Cab Dually sporting a new set of tracks, towing the wifes fifth wheel camper, aka (Mobil Base Camp) with a set of tracks on that thing also!

The words "Shock and Awe" come to mind at the moment.

I would also be forced to come up with a new nick name for my truck.

Hate to rain on anybody's parade, but check out the PSI on the ground numbers of the Matttrack equipped outfits. 1.5 to 4 PSI just won't cut it in the deep snow or mud.

Thanks for all the good comments. The Missouri Deer Classic was a great show. The Maxs got lots of attention. It's always fun to stand around and shoot the bull about 6x6s. Of course all I could think about the whole time was driving my Powerstroke!
It performed flawlessly and made towing a trailer lots of fun. I'll probably put about 500 miles on it this week and I can't wait to see what kind of MPG it gets.
I still have my old F-150 for driving around town. I've only had the Powerstroke for a few days but I'm really nervous anytime I drive it just thinking it might get scratched or some moron will run into me. Today at a stop light, I stopped behind a Honda Civic. The hood of my truck was higher than the roof of that car. At least I have a nice advantage if an accident does happen!

Argohunter, I use mostly pull tight straps to secure the Maxs on the trailer. I use one strap around both front axles of the front Max. One strap around each rear axle of the Max on the back. Pull those tight, then use a ratchet strap and tie them together in the middle. That makes all the straps tight and with the vehicles in reverse, they don't move around. The aluminum ramps used to get thrown in the bed of my old F-150, but with the new truck I tie them to the trailer!

I have checked out the MaxTrax system for my Excursion. The dealer told me $28000.00. I have seen some on E-Bay but it was a while ago.

I rebuild Powerstroke Injectors at a fraction of the cost a dealer will charge for new ones.

That's some serious cash for a set of tracks! That's just over half the value of my truck itself!

The price of our toy's just keeps going up!
