Hi, maybe we can start a new conversation from this. Has anyone ever used a air bag jack that is inflated from engine exhaust. These are really cool and will not sink in mud or snow. the one I have is about 20 x 24 inches and has a capacity of 2 tons. As aatavs are smooth underneath you could place it anywhere and use it to lift or push in any direction. Does any one else know of any other things that help getting unstuck. |

I am trying to locate an inflatable jack. I know I have seen them before, somewhere. Can the thing be inflated by the AATV exhaust? I have also been trying to locate on old-style bumper jack like the one that came with my ’68 Impala. Would there be any place to hook one onto on an AATV? We get 4X4’s unstuck with very high lift jacks of this type all the time (can get the big ones at Tractor Supply and any 4X4 supplier). |

Tips for getting out of frozen body of water.
Does anyone have any technique for getting back onto the ice ?
I was happily argo-ing on a frozen swamp behind my place this weekend when the ice gave way and I found myself floating. Needless to say, after the initial surprize I quickly scrambled to install the drain plugs. I didn't trust the ice thickness due to the warm weather we have been having so I kept it close to shore. Even though I was only 15 feet from shore, it took me close to 2 hours to get there. Luckily I had trees nearby. The winch would stall because the argo would hang-up on the 2 inches of ice ahead of it. I was also fortunate to be carrying a steel pin which I had to use to break the ice ahead (by standing on the hood). Had I not been able to use the winch, the argo would still be there !
In case you are wondering why I carry a steel pin around, I also carry a sledgehammer. If I happen to get stuck in the snow without a tree in sight, I can pound the 3 foot pin into the ground at an angle and pull myself out. I've had to use it several times, climbing iced over hills.

Hi Marc,
Although I have never tried this myself, you
could try using an axe to chip away the ice in
front of your rig to make a ramp for you to drive
onto. Then you drive a steak into the ice and
hook your winch to it. Then winch yourself out
from there. Just be careful. Don't walk on
think ice, and ice that is too think may not work
with the ramp idea.
