Got my Van 2 back from shop yesterday, adj valves, plug, belt, chains, tension on sticks all done to perfection BUT they ran the runamuck pressure up to 3.5 psi, what its says. So off I go with two clients in tow up a 60% slope in some places, overloaded as usual, but feeling like I have got the last ounce of the machine.

Fishtail!!! That's when I knew the tires were too inflated, especially on downhill turns, slipping a sliding like never before. And that's exactly the problem with the rawhides too because I can't bring the pressure low enough on them, only on the runamucks.

So, thinking ahead to new Frontier, any experience with tire pressure on them yet, suggestions???

Does the Frontier have beadlock wheels? I used to break the bead on Argo wheels at less than 3.5psi. On the K rims I have yet to break a bead.

Probably have to wait for feedback from owners as they run this new tire at low pressure and see how well they stay on the bead. I would assume the frontier has the same 7x8 wheel argo has always used. A runamuk stays on the bead well. I drove a weekend at haspin with the back 4 tires at 0 psi due to old tires leaking at beads. I've never lost a bead on a runamuk on the argo 8" wheel. That's due to the tire, not the wheel. A 22" rawhide won't do the same.

I couldn't live with a bigfoot tire and wheel, 3.5+ psi sucks for ride and traction, plus still coming off the bead. I know a guy who bought the tooling to make beadlock wheels that fit the bigfoot, and I'd assume the avenger. If anyone is interested email me and I'll get his info for you.

The other thing is, use max 8" k-rims with the new argo tire. It's a wider wheel, so the rim might be a little more exposed.. the argo tire being narrower than the rawhide. Imagine we'll be seeing max II's with tires that say "argo on the side wall. Looks like a great tire, wish it was a 13x8 instead on a 10x8.

Hey John, spend $2000 on a 23hp vanguard engine and a set of the new tires, build a poor man's frontier.

You know Rogersmith, I thought about that, believe me. We looked at importing one a bigger B&S engine, just droping it into my Van 2. My mechanic says it will fit just fine. Another thing. I have run the runamucks down to about 1.5 lbs, never lost a bead, never. And the ride is terrific, grips way better than the rawhides, slides over wet mud etc. I bought the rawhides, watched them chew up customer ground and took 'em off!

Yeah, maybe I ought to build my own Frontier. the only thing is, I do like the slight bigger and higher off the ground stance. But I sometimes wonder if I'll buy one of these and then think my Van 2 was just as good.

I doubt if you find your Vanguard will be just as good. The chain tensioning system is better, the steering, clearance for tires, and transmission makes trying to compare the two very difficult. The vanguard is a fun play vehicle but not a machine for the tough stuff like the newer models. With the description of the hills you are wanting to negotiate the steering system alone should be worth the upgrade. But if you have never driven one or tried one out you will never know and we will be bench racing the Frontier on here until a newer model comes out.

I guess my last reply not posted. Wanted to know if front driving set back, space, seat, foot and leg room different in Avenger, Frontier, than my Van?? I am fairly cramped up against dash in Van.
