first time into (or almost into) real water. as i started to drop in off the small bank it sure felt like the front end was going under...being 15 degrees out we backed out and will wait till its a little warmer. question is what actually happens as you drop into water and start to float? |

Hey Dan,It seems a bit obvious but you could"dip a toe" in the water so to speak by going into the water from a sloping surface like a boat ramp. Make sure you have the plugs in . After you prove that your machine floats and does not leak you can go nuts if you want. W. Philip Cox |

When you first go into the water you might list to one side or rock or bob around. Most people are a little nervous at first so the best way is to go into the water off a boat ramp or gentle slope like Phillip said. Then get the feel of it with one person then add a second person. If the bank is steep it will give the impression the nose is going under so go slowly. The bottom may not be level so that will also have an effect on the tipping feeling. Make sure you have original type tires or tires that will swim. That was a mistake I made on my first machine. I bought a used one with tires that didn't swim and I got into the water fine but just floated around on a pond until finally I got poushed and pulled out. I have a video of a Max 4 going into the water on my website www.jnatv.com

Dan ....it is a little unnerving to say the least the first time in the water. It will feel very unstable and tippy, you may want to wait till it a little nicer outside. The first time i took my Max 2 in the water it was like 90 out so i could care less what happens. A lot of things affect these machines, like the above posts state, uneven bottom, the balance of the weight of passengers and equipment. I would also suggest a boat ramp for the first time, since it is a even bottom, and a gradual slope, once you get the feel for it, you will be blasting down a hill and into the water anywhere and you wont worry. thanks guys, i will try a boat ramp later in spring. appreciate the feedback. what a blast driving this thing. so much different than 4 wheelers and sleds. |

They say honesty is the best policy so here goes. I got so over confident that i went into the water off of the ice with the windows on the one side. I then did the 3 wheels up and three wheels down thing that I have described before. Problem was the high side that I needed to lean out of to balance the machine had the window in it! The Max filled with water and I jumped in(yes it was very cold) because I think it would have rolled if I didn,t. My wife who was taking pictures was too kind to take one of me as I crawled like a drowned rat after I got up onto the ice. The engine idled for a long time before it drowned. I was at home getting dry clothes on. We pulled it out with my neighbours Kubota. An hour later it was running, 2 days later water stopped squirting out when you pressed on the seats. It runs fine now and I am even more fond of Kohler engines.W. Philip Cox see 2 pics.  |
