I have run power company ROW's for years with an old Bombardier but not they are gone. Just tested an Argo in the swamp, was breaking 2" of ice but the swim with the 22" tires was not real good in a bit of current. I was so impressed with the machine, I have been looking at a Bigfoot and a Max 2 for myself. I can purchase a left over 2005 Bigfoot demo with winch, brush bar and 18 hours on engine for $9200. The only Max dealer in the area has a new 2003 Max that he will sell for $6200, I have seen the same machine on the net for $6150 and it is a current model. After reading all the good, bad and ugly I feel the Bigfoot is the best machine yet the Max would be a fine machine for much less money. I am not registered yet but input would be appreciated. Thanks, Bayrat |

Hi Bayrat, The price on the 2003 Max is reasonable assuming that is the 16hp model and brand new (not a demo). Remember you do have to add shipping and accessories (if any) to the $6150 price you state on a new Max. I think it is easily worth more money to get a 2006 model with the latest upgrades. The internal muffler and air duct cooling system on the Max II has just been introduced on 2005+ vehicles. It is super quiet and a very clean setup. Where are you located? |

I agree with Brandon. The latest upgrades on the 2006 Max model line is a big improvement. The c-clips on the axles is a fantastic improvement and will make repair much easiler in the future. |

Hi Bayrat, I just had to jump in here when I read you were breaking 2" ice in the swamp with an Argo. Was it a 6x6 or 8x8?. Yesterday I was running my Max 2 on about 2" ice in a swamp. Had a good time doing tilt-a-whirl style spins and never broke through the ice. I know the ice was about 2" or less because when I got out of the Max to take some pictures, I broke through the ice while walking and got wet. Says a lot about Max PSI I guess. |

Thanks for the replies. I am only about an hour and a half from the Max factory. The Argo we tried is the newest and largest eight wheel (can't recall the model). In addition we had four adults on-board. |

One more tidbit. I stopped and looked at the Bigfoot demo. Do not like the black color and the machine looks much smaller than the eight wheeler we tried. I then looked at the Max, it was within a mile of the other dealer. It was the only machine there, stuffed in with a couple dozen riding mowers. The place is definitely geared to lawn care. I told the help I was going to look at it and nobody offered to help dig it out. I basically left frustrated and unimpressed with what would probably be minimal support. I sent a note to the Max factory for a price FOB. |

Bayrat don't let that dealer influence your opinion of the product. You may not want to deal with them but don't discount the Max. A good dealer will take the time to give you a walk around tour of the vehicle and go for a test ride. For the hour and a half drive it would be worth it to go to the factory and check out the products there and get a feel for the support. If you contact Galen or one of the other guys there I'm sure they would be happy to give you a tour. The Argo you describe sounds like the Avenger. |

You are correct Jerry, I remember it now. Red in color and very much taller and longer than the "FOOT". Still trying to harvest information from old threads. I hear more positive discussion about Max 4 for general land use. Not near the discussion about the Argo, rather puzzling. Is it the fact that they cost more so fewer are out there? I am still puzzled a bit by the Max transmission. Why the need for a brake going downhill. Doesn't the engine hold it back? |

Well, I posted the info where you can get the value of the machine before I saw you posted this thing 4 times under different headings. This forum is for discussion and not for classifieds. It appears you are trying to use it as a classified more than just trying to get a value. If you want to list it as a classified contact the owner of the site. If you can't get through by the web make a telephone call. If you are really just looking for a value, you don't need to post under each topic and take up space. It is disrespectful to Richard, who allows people to post discussions free, but only asks a small amount to set up an inexpensive highly effective classified. |

I've been reviewing this site for the last couple of weeks now, (just started posting my own ignorant questions and opinions in the last week or so). First I would just like to say there is more information here than I have time for! This is awesome. My wife and I are looking at purchasing an AATV within the next few months, and there is just a ton of information here for us newbies. As much as we would like to, I don't forsee us being able to spend the money right away for a new machine, so I have a few questions for anyone in the know about used ones. I understand that the best way to make a choice is to go test drive one, unfortunately, we know no-one in our area that owns an AATV of any kind. The nearest dealers are a minimum of 3+ hours away, and we both work 2 jobs, most of the time. Well, maybe more like 1 and 1/2 jobs each. Anyway, we could use some help determining what specifics to look for on a used machine. I understand the importance of inspecting the drive train, bearings, chains etc, but again our best options seem to lay in online sales, which makes physical inspection relatively difficult. I've browsed thru the ads listed here on Route6X6 and it seems from the forums and tech tips etc, that anything inspected from here [Richard's Relics] seems to be a relatively safe choice. So far though, we haven't found a suitable choice for what we want. (Don't get me wrong we're not in any hurry, and plan to take our time before purchasing anything.) Can anyone offer solid suggestions on what we could do to avoid buying someone else's maintenance (or lack thereof) issues. From what I've found so far, there aren't very many of these types of vehicles for sale in our state, let alone our area. I just don't want to get stuck making a 11 hour drive to go see that the item we find, that looks good online, is going to cost us just as much in repairs as we are going to spend on the machine itself, not to mention the probable high cost of shipping or pick-up. I guess I've babbled enough, and hope I've been clear in what help I need. If anyone can help, we would appreciate it. Thanks. |

There may not be any dealers nearby, but chances are there are some members here who would let you look at their machines and walk through the mechanics with you. In what state are you located? |

That would be most excellent. We live in Michigan, about 20 minutes away from the Mackinac Bridge, in the Lower Penninsula. |

There was a member here who went by the screen name of Big Wolf (I think). I recall that he was in Michigan, and had a nicely modified Max IV. I have not seen him on line in quite a while, but a search of the board may help you track him down. |
