Slippery Rock Dunes (http://www.slipperyrockdunes.com) is hosting a hare scramble race on Sunday, January 29th in the town of Slippery Rock, in NW Pennsylvania. A friend has been in contact with the track, and if we can get at least 6 AATVs together for the run, they will admit us as a separate class, with the the possibility of trophies. The race was originally intended to host dirt-bikes and quads in the through-the-woods type race, but after speaking with them, they're willing to admit true ATVs as well. We have about 3 or 4 machines that I know will be able to make it, but the more the merrier!

We likely won't have enough machines to run separate AATV classes, but who knows what will show up? This should be a great winter run with mud, snow, who knows! Even if you want to watch, what a great opportunity to see performance 6x6s of the past thrust themselves back into the racing community! Check out the above website, and reply here all that are interested, or send replies to <mcummings@no_spam_geomatrix.com>

Short notice but sounds like a lot of fun. Who's planning on being there so far? If I can possibly be there, I will. How long is the hare scramble course?

I had a lot of fun at that Rodeo-type event that we did down by Clearfield, but I have conflicting plans for the 29th or else I would attend. We are trying to get a date for a ride in Wellsville Ohio set up soon, that is near Steubenville. I will let you know.

Yeah, it's a bit of a short notice but should be a great time. I don't have any idea of the length of the course; I've never been there before. The website says that the Quads and bikes will run for one-hour (wow!), but who knows about the amphibs. I imagine they intend to run us for that long.

Response hasn't been overwhelming as far as the 6x6 community goes. A bit disheartening. If we don't get the minimum number of machines, we will at very least have an opportunity to run around the track.

I rewatched the 1972 race DVD last night in preparation (sitting on the sofa with my helmet on, and two toilet plungers in my hand as practice-laterals). That video is quite amazing, especially the Attexes and the Scramblers that float over the terrain at about 40mph, then hit that waterhole with the jump directly afterward. Some of these drivers navigate that track like a housefly. Very cool!

There seems to be 151 posts about how to thaw out an Argo on the board, but few are interested in racing anymore. A sad, sad day.
