Progressive is who my insurance is through. I pay $135.00 per year for full coverage on a Bigfoot. What's nice about Progressive is that you can hit their website and customize your coverage to suit your needs and wallet.

Progressive as well. $135.00 is roughly what I pay per year also.

Our coverage is Farm Bureau. However, they put the Argo in the same risk pool with the quad bikes and three-wheelers.

SCRATCH PROGRESSIVE!!!!...If you have an EIGHT wheel machine, even if their COMPUTER data base says they cover it, like for example the Argo Conquest, the POLICY itself says six wheels only.
So you can BUY the insurance according to the COMPUTER data base but when you get the POLICY it is NOT covered. Kind of a bummer. Guess they are not so PROGRESSIVE after all.

WE ARE A DEALER IN ONTARIO, CANADA. WE ARE HAVING A TOUGH TIME FINDING INSURANCE COMPANYS TO INSURE THE ARGO . WHICH EVENTUALLY WILL KILL THE INDUSTRY. AROUND HERE IF YOU CAN'T INSURE IT THEN YOU MIGHT AS WELL FORGET SELLING IT. ARGOS ARE A VERY SAFE MACHINE AND SOMEONE SHOULD PROMOTE THIS TOO THE INSURANCE INDUSTRY, OR AT LEAST EDUCATE THEM AS TOO WHAT AN ARGO IS. SINCERLY BOB .

Bob,
After spending hours and hours of time looking for a company to insure an Argo Conquest, the only one that would insure it was State Farm here in Maine. I made sure they knew it had eight wheels. The only thing was that I had to insure my three F-150's with them before they would take on the Argo. As you also have State Farm in Canada, you should have no problem.

A friend of mine, who owns an Argo Conquest, just got his renewal from Progressive and his policy number starts with "MC". He is checking his policy now because he thinks his agent insured a motercyle.

In discussing this issue with dealers in Me, Ak, Mn, and insurance agencies across the states, this is becoming a big problem. I would have had no problem insuring the conquest as long as I didn't mention 8 wheels. In complaining to dealers, their stock answer was "don't tell them it has 8 wheels". Argo headquarters was no help what-so-ever. I would say for the most part that any one with an 8 wheeler probably is not covered. Something they should check on.

Hope this helps.

John,
You are right about how hard it is to get insurance on an 8 wheeler. I am the dealer for Maine and no one is more frustrated about this than I am. I have been in touch with the factory about this and he assured me they were working on it. You are right about State Farm. They will insure them if you put everything else with them. I have a customer right now who is doing just that. I have been in touch, via my insurance agent, with the guy at Progressive that makes the decisions about what gets insured. I was willing to take a Conquest to Iowa to show him how safe they really were, because he actually said, it's probably because no one knows what these are. I'm still waiting to find out if they are interested in actually seeing one. This is what it is going to take and I am more than willing to do it. Conquests are a big part of my sales, but if my customers aren't going to be able to find insurance on them, then I will just stop ordering the 8 wheelers. Sooner or later someone will have to do something about it or just stop making them.

HOGWASH...!
You guys on this site never cease to amaze me! In July 2001 I started a string of posts (PA owners call to arms) on these registration $ insurance problems.
It was in response to NEW registration legislation in PA ... and ... I made a call to action for ALL AATV owners for help in heading off rapidly spreading plague of "copy cat" ATV legislation that all but closes the outdoors to our class of vehicle.
To be perfectly frank, my request FELL ON DEAF EARS AND WENT UNHEEDED. NO RESPONSES! NOT ONE BIT OF SUPPORT FROM ARGO! NOTHING!

SO ... I sold my Argo Vanguard ... CANCELLED my policy with Progessive ... and ... I stopped paying the State of PA to "maintain" ATV and Snowmobile trails that I'm forbidden to use!

Obviously ... You guys never heard that it's usually only the squeaky wheel that gets oiled!

I've go a newsfash for you guys...!

THE SOMEONE DOING SOMETHING IS GOING TO HAVE TO BE ALL OF US ... SQUEALING AT THE SAME TIME ... IN EVERY STATE ... NATION WIDE ... LIKE STUCK PIGS...!

JT,
What I meant was, someone, as in the manufacturers of these. It should be their responsibility to make sure there is insurance available for the products they munufacture. It is going to take someone with more clout than I have, in order to set up a meeting or a demonstration for these. From what I was told, this is the problem. The people that make the decisions about what is insurable and what is not, just don't have a clue as to what an amphibious AATV is. It has only been within the last year or so that this has become the problem that it is. A year ago, almost all of my customers could get insurance through Progressive. All of a sudden, they started canceling their policies and would not write an 8 wheeler. I have been in touch with numerous insurance companies across the US and NO ONE can tell me why. The thing that amazes me the most, is, I have never heard of any kind of motorized vehicle that you could not insure, FOR ANY amount of money. Not even under an assigned risk.
Maybe your right about getting all AATV owners together, but if they don't know what an AATV is, and how safe they really are, I am afraid it would just fall on deaf ears. It is still going to take SOMEONE, (as in the factory) to show them first.

I beg to differ with your assesment of "NOONE" contacting you. I contacted you not only by e-mail but by phone as well!!
There are some of us out here who do care! I have written my local representatives, taken them photos, and have offered them rides. As of right now I am waiting for a friend of mine who has a six wheeler and a quad, to get me some info in regards to the sizes of the bridges that are currently on the trails.
The info I have recieved states that the bridges are not wide enough to allow us to use them. Since we can't ride our 6 wheelers out there we can't measure.
Maybe you should quit yer belly achin' and coughed up the few dollars for the registration and insurance. The rules don't get changed overnight!

USAA..San Antonio Texas. They WILL cover 8 WHEEL AATVs in SOME states. Depends on the state. If you are former military or a family member, it may be worth while to call them up. I was "stranded" by Progressive when they declined to renew my policy. (see post above about that.) USAA issued a policy and faxed proof of insurance in less than ten minutes. Should have gone to them in the first place.

Just to let PA 8 wheelers know, Progressive Insurance sold me a policy for my Argo Conquest 8x8. I had to call their 800 number and inquire about it, the agent had to get off the line and check with somebody, but they did write the policy. She had to over ride the computer to enter the information but she asured me that it would go thru. I have been trying for two and a half years to get insurance on this machine.

Gents, the old dog is back on the porch.Just got back from Park City, Utah for the American Moose Foundation Symposium. Then up to Jackson Hole for more book promotions.
Things are flying. My new book, "The Wilderness Trail" was on USA Today for three days after thanksgiving, and will be on the "New York Times New Author" list on Dec. 26th.
A lot of you have bought the book and I just wanted to thank you all for your support.
I'm going out tomorrow with my road dog in his argo. We will be testing the ice. I have a bad feeling about it, it's been a little too warm for much ice. Oh well, we'll see.
