hi,

im new to this forum, and everything atv.

i want to build a small 1 man 6x6 skid steer vehicle, i already have a engine (brand new 3.5hp tecumseh.)i was thinking of making my own transmition, but dont know how. I am fairly confident with engineering but only on a small budget.

i would be able to use parts from existing atv's but here in England the only atv's are new argo's really.

any help would be greately appreciated.

Come on guys let give this guy some help

First off Mr Smith, you are going to need a lot
more power than 3.5hp, try something much bigger
say a 14

blimey, 14hp for a small 6x6?
it will only be for messing about on farm tracks.

thanks for the help so far guys.

if you go on youtube and search mini argo, that is what i am trying to acheive just a wee bit bigger.

i agree 3.5 hp would require a gear reduction resulting in a speed of just a few feet per min. if you want good power. bullwinkle

now that i think about it we used to have a 3.5 hp small air craft mover that had a 3.5 hp engine. it was geared so low you had to walk very slow to use it. even then it had just enough power to move the plane. bullwinkle

i suppose that i could use a microlight (Ultralight) engine.

i would rather use the 3.5hp as i dont want something fast or powerful, all i need is a project to build.

I have thought of a new idea,i will have an articulated chassis (like the Sur-Trek)

but with no TAT (Trans Axle Transmission)

instead it will be powered from the back and steered via rods. The front section will have dead axles with free-bearing wheels, the reer will have a gokart axle (i have sourced a gokart axle with bearings and carriers.) and a centrifugal clutch off the engine.

The problem with the Sur-trek with its live axles, is the fact that it would not steer, another words it under steered so bad, it was almost unless. I think you will have to have some sort of differential to make it turn, Just trying to help

Looks like most of the lawn mower efforts fall short, too much heat, too little power and now set up for the loads that a 6x6 puts on the hydo units

Nothing looks like much to me, all seem underbuilt with backyard tech, to rigged to work, in my opinion
