im looking at bying an old mid 70s Argo

This is an Argo 6 wheeler, 6x6 all wheel drive, amphibious ATV. I do not know the exact year, mid 70's I believe. This is a good 6 wheeler, good shape, it is fast, it runs great & it is a whole lot of fun. The body is water tight for floating in the pond or down the river. There are 2 plugs in the back at the bottom, boat plugs. If you do get water in it, you can drain it. The body is in overall pretty good shape for its age. It has alot of nicks & scratches from being around for 20 some years. There are no cracks or holes in it. The body on it is about 1/4" thick plastic, much stronger than the Max's or Attex's. The worse part of the body is the hood over the engine. In the front of it, it has the letters ARGO cut out of the plastic. They are riveted to a hinge. The letters have all cracked & seperated from the hinge. The hinge is rusty & will not move, that is why it did that. There is another strap piece of metal that holds it on. A new hing & some glue should fix this problem. The lights were working on it, 'til my brother hit the switch with his knee. Probably need a new toggle switch. The seats have only a couple small rips in them. Pretty good overall. They are a little discolored in areas from time. There is a 5 gallon plastic fuel tank sitting in the back. Not original but it works fine & stays in place. The removable floorpans are in good shape. You can remove them to get to the drive chains, All chains seem to be fine. They have been well oiled. The engine is a big old 635CC Rotax. I do not think it is original, but it is mounted in there good. Not all rigged up. Somebody did a good job. Very easy to pull out. You can have it out in ten minutes. I know, I have done it recently. It has new plugs, points, condensors & battery. The carb has been gone through & cleaned. There is a new starter switch & kill switch. The engine is a 2 cylinder, 2 stroker. The Y pipe coming off of the engine, where it turns to 1 pipe & meets the next pipe, there is an exhaust leak there. Nothing real bad, I lived with it. On the dash it has a tachometer, that works. There is a speedometer, but no cable. Transmission works & shifts fine, good gear lube in it. It has a HI & LO & reverse. The brake system works. The throttle cable is tight, like the cable is getting bad. Takes a little getting use to, but you can do it. Or just get a new cable. The tires are Nankang 22x12x8s. They all have about 3/4" of tread left on them. There is alot of tread left on them. The right rear tire has a leak. It is leaking at the bead. Probably needs to be dismounted on the bead & cleaned. These tires allow the machine to go just about anywhere, land or water. Overall this is a decent machine. It is not new, it does have a few minor things that will need work, but it is still a blast. It is fast & fun.

what do you think, looks like its in good shape found it for sale in the local paper then emailed him

saph, go for it, quick before you regret it. Its not always easy to find a machine in that good shape after 20 years.
