Yesterday I used my MaxII in an organized search for a drowning victim. Arkansas had a bunch of rain a week ago, and this man was swept into a raging river. I volunteered as part of a canoe club, but when the Emergency Coordinator learned I had an amphib ATV, he asked me to bring it to search flooded areas. I did so, spending all day yesterday bouncing and swimming around in the flood plain. About 150 people participated, and a swift water rescue team found the body late in the day. My MaxII did very well in some tough conditions. I noticed that a couple of S&R UTVs never even unloaded from their trailers. A few quads helped, plus my Max. Horses, canoes, and john boats did the rest.
One issue though; maybe someone can give advice. My MaxII did take on more water than I'd like. I think it's coming up through the seam between the hull halves. I'll probably put more foam gasketing there. However, I also want to install a bilge pump. Anyone have any advice on what type to install, where to put it, etc. I figure it's cheap insurance against a water problem. |

Henry I commend you for volunteering, that is a great service you did. The water does come in between the body halves if the seal gets flattened by time. You can put in a new seal. Put in the biggest bilge pump you can find. I put them in by the solenoid or behind the engine by the brace for the hitch. You can just get one from WalMart. |

Thanks for bilge pump ideas. I've seen them at Wally World. Two more questions: did you install a manually operated one, or an automatic type? And did you route the hose out thru the engine vents, or drill a hole in the hull? |

I use a manual switch. I route the house out one of the engine vents so I'm not drilling holes in the body. if a person wanted a nice clean look a real bilge pump fitting could be used on the upper body.
Just give yourself enough hose either way so you can open the body and not pull it loose and when you close the body it doesn't kink. |
