Oh yes, unregistered guest, it is true. Hell has frozen over. My Argo dealing just began last Tuesday the 14th. Both brands are sitting side by side. I think Max targets different customers than Argo and for good reason. The two vehicles are so different I think all they have in common is their amphibious ability.
I planned to post a full review of my first test drive, but now you've called me out (are you going to show your identity?) I could hardly wait to get behind the HANDLE BARS of an Argo... so what do I think about this new steering system? It's awesome. Comfort and ease of use is the best a 6x6 has ever seen. I will say it is still unfortunate that the vehicle is still driven by a differential, but the Argo tries to make up for it in other areas. The trans does work great with that exception. Low gear on hills holds the vehicle back so well that you don't even need the brakes. The 6x6s are a little front heavy so a person has to be careful and take time getting used to going down hill.
The Argo swims well in water and has good speed. When stopped you can see how much heavier the front really is. Max floats much more level. I took the Argo out of a steep bank just to test it and it did well (and I was acutally suprised it made the climb).
That's my quick review for now. I can't wait to give the Avenger a test run. I still prefer the Max for mud and tackling the toughest terrain. Actually as we all know, I'm a diehard Max man for life. Both Max and Argo are very well made and you can't go wrong with either. The one you buy should be determined by how you plan to use it. Max is built more for playing hard and Argo is built more for working hard. Each can still be used for the other purpose though, and that's what makes each machine great. Both companies are SO CLOSE to having a perfect vehicle. Max needs axle bearing seals (like Argo has) and Argo needs true AWD (like Max has).

Things I like about the Argo (since this is really an Argo topic):
Handle bar steering - Very easy and comfortable to drive. It fixes one problem I've always had with 6x6s. Before we had to use both hands at all times to trail ride the vehicle. With handle bars, a driver can just relax and cruise the trails.
Full skid plate, axle extensions - These just make the vehicle tough, the way it should be.
Under seat storage - So simple yet so useful. Flip up your seat and there is a handy cargo tray to store those little items.
Real Boat drain plugs - Easy to remove and install.
I think that's enough for now. I'm sure there will be plenty of follow up posts.

I have never had either and get sick of reading about which is best. The both are good enough to survive over the times. I wish this site was age restricted. It would keep this site cleaner. lol

I think it is cool to sell them side by side. It is how it should be. Probably would sell more to. I would rather drive somewhere to see them both then to drive in two completely differant directions. Might just drive there to check them out where if there is only one make might not even bother.

Anyone considering the Argo should check out the Argo Hunting DVD from their local dealer. I just got a chance to watch and it's real good. It has big game hunting in Canada with moose and black bear. It mostly features the Avenger going through mud and snow and hauling out moose. The DVD also has the many other videos ODG has put out like Argo in Action, at work, and adventures.

What if I go from selling Argo to showing up at a Deepwater ride with an Argo? Would CNN fly in and tell the world how terrible the situation is?

Speaking of Deepwater, isn't it about time to start talking about another ride there?

Sounds good to me. Yes it is time to think about that place. Brandon, lets make the first ride there this year be your ride.

That sounds like a great idea to me. I can't believe it has been almost a year since our last ride there. I'm already getting people rounded up to get a good Spring ride together. I doubt I can do it as good as Troy could but I know we're going to do a lot of good riding this year.

Most people who are new to the sport don't believe me when I tell them how much riding we used to do, back in '99 to '01. I'm sure all of us who remember those rides sure miss them. I don't know what happened short of just a slow economy. I think this will be the year we go back to doing it right just like in 1999.

Those years I think we had at least 2 or 3 rides at Deepwater,2 at the Badlands,a couple at Haspin and I also went to Turkey Bay all in the same year.I still go to Turkey Bay at least once a year ,but havent been anywhere else other than Rockport since.
