Just wanted to check in with all the Max and Argo dealers on the board. Recreatives is claiming great summer sales with a five week wait time for new orders (usually two weeks when not busy). We don't have near as many rides as we used to and that usually means not as many people buying 6x6s. How are sales in your area?

Hi Brandon, in another post I beleive that you said that R.I. were going to stop offering the 25 horse Kohler air cooled engine (T 950). The 27 horse liquid cooled engine is such a big seller that they don,t see any need to continue with the 25 engine. I am sorry to hear this. Possably not the reason for the design but the up in the air location of the engine in the MAX IV allows free engine breathing and excellent engine cooling.I have so much success with the air cooled kohler that I would like to be able to get a higher horsepower engine without going to the extra weight and complexity of liquid cooling. Kohler unlike briggs recommend the use of 10w30 oil for all of the temperatures that I encounter except the very coldest( below zero farenheit) days of deep winter. On those days it is easier to plug in a block heater to provide warmer oil for starting than to try to predict the fluctuations in our unpredictable weather. It also makes starting much easier and makes it simple to also plug in a battery charger. Since engine overheating is not a factor is there any reason not to use the Command Pro 27 h.p.(740) or the C.P. 28 H.P. CH745 (both weigh 94 lbs. dry) and share the same measurements as the 25h.p. or the newly released 30 H.P.(ch750) It,s 11 pounds heavier and 7inches longer and 3 inches higher but I think that most of the weight and all of the size is because its shown with the huge heavy duty air cleaner that is also offered with the 25 h.p. motor. In our climate we see summer temperatures above 90 deg. F. regularly, but I have never seen 100 degrees. Am I right that I don,t need a liquid cooled motor in a Max iv? W. Philip Cox
P.S. The 28 H.P. CH745 motor is E.F.I. and I assume would eliminate frozen choke problems and charges 25 amps.

Philip, they D/C'd the Max IV 900T but still have the 950T which is the 27hp L/C Kawasaki. All the engines you mentioned would work if you are considering a swap.

The liquid cooled engine does have drawbacks, weight as you mentioned, and they are louder. But they do have more h/p and torque and the liquid cooling should allow them to run at a more consistent temperature and should be a longer lasting engine. The liquid cooled engine is also more modern and technical and offers this advantage when marketing the 950T. To a lot of people a liquid cooled Kawasaki motor is much more appealing than a Briggs and Stratton air cooled lawn mower motor. In a business with tight margins and lots of competition especially from other side by side seating utility ATVs a marketing and technical edge is needed.

Philip: One thing with the liquid cooled is you can posibly install a heater and that seems to be one question I'm asked when people are looking at the Max.

Hi Jerry, I got my model nos. confused. You are correct. Recreatives would not consider cancelling their top selling model which is the 950T. I am not in a hurry to change out a great running engine, but more horsepower dangles like an irresistible carrot.-------------------------Larry, I have had much success with heating in my Max since the fall of 2003.If you are intrested let me know. Did you ever get a visit from David K. from Toronto? W.Philip Cox

Philip, I'm getting ready to order a 950T this week, 26 ", rollcage, and package A. I am still trying to decide on color. I hate paying extra for the camo. I am looking forward to the increase in power and ability to turn more easily.

I currently have an Argo Vanguard II but I have been looking into getting a Max dealership for about 8 months and I'm going to finish up and order a machine this week or the first part of next week. So I plan on ordering a 950T to start with.

Philip, I have never had a problem with heat myself but I have been asked if there was any heaters in the Maxes. I always found that if I had a windshield it made alot of difference. No, I never got a visit from David K.

HI FRED, I have a roof on my Max IV that is similar to the factory one. You posted an awsome picture looking off of a deck on www.frappr.com/6x6owners, you can see a picture of my roof on that site, the one where the Max is climbing up onto the ice. As you can see I boxed in the area above the Kohler engine with a removable section of roofing. ( ie: I have two rear windows.) The large screened air intake on the back of the Max is not covered and the side screens have a couple of inches of clearence. The engine fan blows strongly enough that I have never experienced any fogging of my windows since 2003 when I had the roof put on the then new 900T. I almost always run with at least one of the front windows rolled up (open), and the inner rear window open just a bit on each side to let the heat in. People predicted that my rear window would melt but so far so good. W. Philip Cox
