I just picked up a new classified add magizine today and found an Add for a "Hoot" amphibious ATV. The add mentioned "factory direct self assembly kits . Does anyone know anything about this one? I haven't heard of this name yet in my search for 6x6 manufactures names. |

I believe that would be Coot. This is one of the older AATV's no longer made. I don't know what year they were made but I was at thw Humphrey Jamboree this weekend and there was one there it is not a 6x6 it has only 4 wheels. |

The add has a picture,it is a 6x6.The picture isn't very clear but it looks like you sit on it like a fourwheeler type ATV . I was curious if anyone else had heard of it.There is a phone number .I'll probably give it a try just satisfy my curiousity.Thanks. |

These things are really cool looking. If my dad ever decides that the ARGO has to go, I will try to get one of these things. I wonder where they got the idea from. The steering components shoud be put into the ARGO. They don't even have a tranny. That has been modified and still works and floats and is really cool. |

Checked out the website. Pretty neat machine, from the looks of it. Priced at $7995 canadian. Not sure what the exchange rate makes that in US dollars, but I'll look as soon as I post this. Does anyone on the site have one of these yet? Not sure if its what I'm looking for, due to wife's input, but still pretty cool looking. Doesn't look near as tippy in the water from the video clip. Too bad it's only a one-seater. If anyone has one, post a note, let us know what they are like. Thanks. Oh, PS this is a great site, and everyone has been really helpful so far. |

I just watched their video. I looks like they did alot of things right. Neat machine although I'd have a tough time getting my wife to letting me spend $7000 for something only I can ride. Maybe i'll buy "her" one  |

That Hoot looks really cool, but I have to stay with my Argo, so that my wife can still ride with me out and about. I can't see paying that kind of money for a machine that seats just one. Kinda goes along the concept of a quad, where one would have to buy more than one unit in order for the whole family to go out and have fun together.
Now, it does look like an awesome machine for the single person, but I will stay with my Bigfoot! |

I just done some more research and found the Hoot has been around since around 2000, at least on paper.What is the big holdup? |

Kind of seems Mr. Neary is stringing this venture along,The hoot has been on this board for over two years and still no dealer network.If he is still developing that should of already been done.Anyone remember the electric AATV that was supposed to take the market by storm, where is it? What was the name AATV 2ooo or something like that. |

maybe moneys tight,
the difference between AATV 2000 and the hoot is that the hoot people have brought there vehicle out to events and allowed test drives!
possibly they still have to meet some government regulations or something?
this is a real buggy, people have driven them,
AATV 2000 on the other hand was a figment of some scam artist's imagination. |

The Hoot has one very good feature that I like especially since my back injury. Which is the suspension seat to absorb shock. AATV Manufacturers need to step up to the plate in this department to help save our backs. This would be a very easy modification for the Manufacturers and probably not very costly either
for them or the purchaser. The quads could even benefit from this feature even though they have suspensions already it would make their ride that much better. I thought of this years ago when I rode a Wave Runner for the first time. I thought how great it would be to have a suspension seat on one of these things. |

It takes a long time to design any new vehicle of most any kind unless your maybe one of the big 3 or another big manufacturer.
I can tell you about my particular case where I'm designing and building my AATV I just have a small 30x24 garage that I not only use for building my AATV but everything else so I have to deal with everything else thats around or in my way like mowers & snowthrowers etc. so all of this stuff takes time. especially if you work a full time job while trying to build and or manufacture something & especially if your on a small budget like me. I thought about building my own AATV about 3 or 4 years ago and I finally got the frame tacked up and then I thought of a better way to mount the fuel tank or tanks & so now I will have to go back and break the tacks loose on 2 of the frame rails or cut them loose because the tacks are penetrated. So that will take a good while. Also you have to take into consideration the measurements of nearly every nut & bolt maybe not ahead of time but in my case at least along the way or you might have some clearence issues. And now I have had back problems that I have had to deal with for going
on 3 months. So that has set me back a long way because I was moving along real well till that happened. I had hoped to have a rolling chassis this summer but I don't even know if that will happen now. Right now I can see my project taking at least 2 more years before it's finished and thats if my back ever gets better. And I have been thinking about moving and building a bigger garage that will set me back a good year. So you have to take into consideration all kinds of things you probably never would have imagined to begin with when doing something like that. |

Something that will save your back in an aatv is to not lean back in your seat and let the machine pivot under your butt. I drive mine all the time this way, unless I'm in the water, because I have a fully blown disk in my lower back.
Even after a full day of driving over heavy obstacles, like fallen trees and boulders, I'm still able to get out and walk normally.
I'd have to agree tho, a suspension seat in an argo would be really nice! |

Thanks for the tip. But when I'm on the forklift at work it really doesn't matter how far back or how far forward or if it's in the straight up position, I just can't get comfortable on some of them. As far as I can tell it's the shape of some of the seats that give my back the problems. The majority of them are different and most are worn out & the company couldn't care less. They don't do any preventative maintenance on anything the only time they fix anything is after it breaks long after it breaks. |

THEY DO HAVE PICTURES ON THE HOOTATV.COM WEBSITE FROM A DEALER SHOW. THEY ARE GONNA BE AROUND 6,100.00 IN THE USA. I HAVE A MAX II NOW AND WILL HAVE A HOOT WHEN THEY ARE AVAILABLE. GUARANTEED!!!!! |

Jerry,
I looked over their website it seems to be a well thought out vehicle. I'm interested to see what kind of external bearing mount is used for water tightness. Also I'd like to see them use a 25 inch tire but it looks like there might be a clearance issue. The thing that really gives me pause is that they don't use a frame just the "strong" fiberglass body. It's a fairly light machine so low psi on the ground should keep Fred happy! |

I think someone mentioned that they were coming out with a multi passenger 6x6.Should be interesting to see what they have thought out. |
