I have a max II with the 18 h.p. briggs&stratton engine. I want to use it for hauling heavy trailers up steep grades and I think a lower gear ratio would help. As I see it the easiest way to do it would be to put a smaller sprocket on the on the main input shaft and then cut the chain to a shorter length. Will this work? Does anyone know where I can get a smaller sprocket?

I changed the gearing on a Max2 chassis i had
that i stretched and converted to Max4 dimensions.
I made an overlay sprocket 10 teeth larger to fit
over the large sprocket on the jackshaft. I welded
mine on but you could easly bolt them on to make
changing back to stock easier. I changed my gearing to accomadate 26x12x12 tires, it works fine and its geared plenty low. I tried to find
smaller sprockets for the trans output shaft, but
was unsuccesful.
