T.J.

The manual is what I oreder from ATTEX when I got my 252. It may not be the right year for my machine, but it gives me some information that has proven useful thru the years. It is posted on my website with some other ATTEX info at

HELP ...! Like a fool I ignored the primary rule "IF IT AIN'T BROKE ... DON'T FIX IT." My 399 cc JLO twin needed rebuilding ... so ... I sent it to Central Snomobile. There was nothing wrong with my Bosch starter ... but ... I figured "Better safe than sorry" ... get it done anyway.
No problems with the CC rebuilt engine ... BUT ... the starter is another story. Their first effort resulted in a starter with a "dead spot" and a direct short to ground. On their second they replaced MY starter with a newer type. This really created problems. The starter was almost two inches shorter than my original ... the lip on the flywheel end of their new type starter sat so deep in the mounting flange that the bendix hit the ring gear ... AND ... there was no rear bracket to keep the starter from wiggling. Their solution was for me to fashion and add a spacer to the flywheel end ... and .. "On the new type starter, No rear bracket is necessary."
HOG WASH ...!
The plastic bearing surronding the bendix has broken TWICE. They cannot locate my original starter. And I'm pull starting a 400cc TWO STROKE.
Moral to the story ... Maintain you vehicle ... BUT ... "If it ain't broke ... DON"T FIX IT."
P.S. Anybody out there with one of the old style starters that has a rear bracket ... I'm in the market for one.
