hey guys, could someone clear up the different engine options on a max for me , i am not small 6'5 250 , now im deciding between the max 11 or max 4 , i know the max 11 has more leg room , and i would get it in at least a 18hp but is there a big difference in that and the kohler 20 hp, which engine is quiter, which will perform better, any pluses or mineses in both, would the max 11 in 18hp haul 2 large guys with out the bogdown or lack of power-- now if i go with the max 4 is the briggs 18 underpowered for it if i put three adults , basically someone explain the 18hp, 20hp and 25 hp differences in performance

I'm 6'4" 280 (little portly compared to you I guess). I've got last years IV 18HP, it is plenty of power. I've had 4 adults my size in it, and it would move around power-wise with no problem. If you want to do tracks, you MIGHT consider more, but I've never run them so don't know for sure. I've spent time in a II as well ... it has more legroom, but the IV is fine for taller folks, and does everything better. The only reason to go for the II is "looks" ... it is kind of sporty, especially with the chrome roll-bar, and it is more fun to "race around" in. For going through rough stuff and certainly water use though, the IV with the 26" tires is the right way to go.

Farmboy, you should get the biggest engine you can afford. The bigger the engine the less you will be sorry later. I would get the Max IV with 26" tires. Like Bill said, it out performs everything else. 18hp is enough to get you there and back. The 25hp is a beast compared to anything else. It will get you there faster and easier. Since it has so much wheel spin and power, it is easier to get through tough spots. You do need some time behind the sticks before you can get the most out of it. Full throttle with 725cc's of power will bury you quick in loose terrain.

Finally ...! I swear I never would have believed it. I still don't believe my eyes. Is that the same MaxRules who beats the drum loudly about there being "no replacement for displacement" actually admitting that SKILL and traction, NOT HORSE POWER just might be the real key to keeping you from getting stuck. Brandon, that's what us Attex owners with 400+cc two strokes have been telling you for months. Better watch it guys ... he might be growing up.
