I wish I could. He really wants to come to the rides with me, but he is only 4. I don't have a roll bar or seat beats so I don't want to take him since he can't be buckled in. I am trying to postpone the party until the following weekend. I sure hope I can make it.

We will not be coming to the Hespin Acres ride. We are now into deer hunting time and Roger loves to deer hunt when he gets a chance to be off work. We probably won't be out on rides again until early spring 2002.

I might come if Troy goes too. Looks like it is about 400 miles. It is on the other boarder of IN from the Badlands. It appears to be only 70 miles farther though. I really hate the drive back after riding on Sunday. Maxing is worth it though. My truck has almost 160,000 miles on it and many have come from hauling the Max. Good thing it's built Ford tough.

Troy I'll talk to you Wednesday and we'll make plans.

brandon,
you will really enjoy hespin acres. that one hill at the badlands you climbed right before the crash is an average hill at hespins. the drive home does suck but it is worth it. jon

Top of pagePrevious messageNext messageBottom of pageLink to this message   By matt435 on Unrecorded Date: Edit

john are you going to tent camp out there, I might just bring the tent this time and the bigfoot in the back of the truck, be bright travel light. Matt

Top of pagePrevious messageNext messageBottom of pageLink to this message   By argogeru on Unrecorded Date: Edit

matt,
I will be in a tent. I am packing very light also. gonna have a coleman stove if any one needs to use it and will have all the firewood we will need. jon.

If anyone knows anybody who would like to go please tell them! I have E-mailed richard 3 times to post the event on the event board and it is still not up. Maybe my e-mail is screwed up.
I will be bringing a big screen tent to eat in or get out of the rain if it rains, so if anyone has a folding camping table, it would be a welcome addition. Dont forget your camp chairs either for the fire.

go I-69 south to exit 45 highway 35 east to highway 3 south all the way to I-70. get on I-70 east for 14 miles to highway or county road 1, exit 137. go south on 1 to connersville, and pickup 121 south and that will take you to laurel. it is about 15 miles from connersville to laurel. once you arrive in laurel their is a 4-way stop and you will turn left and go east for 1/2 mile and once you cross the bridge you will vear left and go up a steep paved road and you are their. you will see a big sign where you vear off the road. their is also a sign at the 4-way stop in town. it is about a 31/2 hour trip. I am leaving at 9:00 mi. time friday night and tom and jim will be their about 7:00 on friday night. we are going to camp down by the big pond. see you their!

thanks to all who came this weekend, we had a great time. Only one dislocated elbow and one robbery on friday night were the only mishaps for the weekend. looking forward to the next event wherever it may be.
I talked to a ribit rider member today on the phone and the club is looking for suggestions for next years event. The plan was to have it on the first weekend of august but it looks like it is going to be changed back to july and kept the same. if anyone has ideas e-mail me or the ribit riders.

I had alot of fun at Haspin Acres, the only disapointment was that there was not more 6 wheelers there. But those who made it had a good time.

Top of pagePrevious messageNext messageBottom of pageLink to this message   By MaxRules (Brandon_price) on Unrecorded Date: Edit

Sounds like an exciting weekend, how about more details? I've heard from lots of people that theft is common at Haspin Acres. What happened Friday?

I'm guessing someone crashed. Details?

MaxRules

Top of pagePrevious messageNext messageBottom of pageLink to this message   By argogeru on Unrecorded Date: Edit

the robber stole about 40 dollars from my truck along with the wifes' purse, my tape case with 75 tapes and a 300 dollar camera with all the pictures still inside of it. tom had his wallet stripped of 30 bucks and a carton of marlboros and todd lost an undisclosed amount of money and equipment in his truck with him sleeping in it. this was a professional thief and the cops already now who did it, talked to them today. good thing for insurance. their is random theft their and it is always a local person from the town according to the cop. they have caught this guy several times and why he is not in prison I dont know. I work in a prison and their is alot of guys locked up for lesser stuff than that. he stole just over a 1000 dollars worth of stuff from my truck alone and in michigan anything over 100 bucks is a felony. not so in indy from the sounds of it.
and yes brandon, their was a crash. both people are fine and the riding continued shortly after. as i have said in earlier post about hespin acres this place is not for an inexperienced driver or a driver that dont know when to say when. I watch a level headed driver wreck and he has 20 plus years of riding experience.
once again the king quads were saved by the mighty amphibs. thought they could go through the goo and they thought wrong so we had to show 250 people at the mud holes the most superior machines on the planet. amphibs will rule offroading again. its just a matter of time.

Top of pagePrevious messageNext messageBottom of pageLink to this message   By MaxRules (Brandon_price) on Unrecorded Date: Edit

Who crashed? I don't think all crashes mean the driver wasn't good enough to drive through the terrain. If you are going to take it to the limit you have to be ready to eventually cross the line. Sometimes riding hard means crashing hard. I would rather see someone try difficult terrain and fail instead of not trying it at all.

MaxRules

Top of pagePrevious messageNext messageBottom of pageLink to this message   By matt435 on Unrecorded Date: Edit

The ride this last weekend was great! The drive there with the leaves turning and the big hills and winding roads made it worth the trip. I had a great time. Matt

Top of pagePrevious messageNext messageBottom of pageLink to this message   By matt435 on Unrecorded Date: Edit

Well I washed all of the mud off the bigfoot today and found a indent on the back lower body were it says argo, there is a small hole-tear, does anyone have a idea on how to repair this without making it look bad? you can barley see it because it's on one of the leters of ARGO molded into the body. Any Idaes would be great.

P.S. don't worry jim, it's just the risk you take riding. They aren't ment to stay pretty on the trailer. There are no hard feelings. Matt

Top of pagePrevious messageNext messageBottom of pageLink to this message   By argogeru jon hoath on Unrecorded Date: Edit

matt,
does it go all the way through the body?

Top of pagePrevious messageNext messageBottom of pageLink to this message   By matt435 on Unrecorded Date: Edit

Yes, there is a small hole or tear that goes all the way through. The ARGO logo is also bent in alittle bit, I was thinking of getting it really hot with my ready heater and try to pop it back, but that still won't fix the hole. I was thinking about mealting the hole back togeather. It is pretty small. about the size if a nail. Matt

Top of pagePrevious messageNext messageBottom of pageLink to this message   By MaxRules (Brandon_price) on Unrecorded Date: Edit

What happened Matt? Were you the one that crashed? Small holes can be filled with some putty or a bolt.

MaxRules

Top of pagePrevious messageNext messageBottom of pageLink to this message   By j8wheel on Unrecorded Date: Edit

Matt, I feel terrible about that, I'm just glad that no one got hurt, do you want to send me the bill or have a free shot at mine, lol. I hope that it is repairable an does'nt look that bad, let me know, Jim

Top of pagePrevious messageNext messageBottom of pageLink to this message   By argogeru on Unrecorded Date: Edit

matt,
if the hole is that small maybe some pure silicone caulk would work. that stuff sticks tight to everything and if you used the clear kind you probably wouldn't notice it. you would probably half to check it often to make sure it didn't get ripped out somehow. did you call orrs and see would they could do? Plastic welder?

Top of pagePrevious messageNext messageBottom of pageLink to this message   By matt435 on Unrecorded Date: Edit

Jim, Don't worry about it. I talked to Becky today, she said to take a heat gun and try to pop it out. As far as the hole, she said to use a black rivit and some putty. Matt

Jon, you should check with Pete before the ride on a couple things. I was reading some 4 wheeler forums and they may be enforcing a helmet rule. Or we may be classified for seat belts. Maybe Pete will waive them both for us. They hired "rangers" to keep an eye on the place, some theft and several junk cars brought in and burned. Think this was in the recent past.. the ranger patrols were pulled as things improved..

also night riding has drawn noise complaints from various sources in town, and "on paper" is not allowed, although normal sounding vehicles riding in the back wooded area away from the direction on town is ok.

That's what I gather from the forums.. thought you'd want to check it out in case we need to bring helmets or tie in some seat belts..

Top of pagePrevious messageNext messageBottom of pageLink to this message   By John Schwab (Johnschwab) on Unrecorded Date: Edit

Hi Roger- Thanks for the heads-up. It will be very hard for the management of Haspin to enforce any kind of rules, that place is really a free-for-all. I hope we will still be able to do our nights rides even if we have to curtail them earlier. Will you be making the trip this time? If we have to wear helmets it is not the end of the world, I am required to wear one most all of the time on my quad. Whatever the case I am sure that we will have a great weekend as usual

Top of pagePrevious messageNext messageBottom of pageLink to this message   By Rogersmith (Rogersmith) on Unrecorded Date: Edit

Looking forward to going, John, and seeing everyone.. the 4 wheeler guys mentioned skateboard helmets, supposed to be light and ventilated. Going to look at them. October won't be bad.. now the July ride at Rockport wearing a borrowed black helmet that was too small.. that wasn't so great. I got called down by the management for not wearing one.. If Brandon had stayed a little longer he could have shared the lecture with me :)

Top of pagePrevious messageNext messageBottom of pageLink to this message   By Rogersmith (Rogersmith) on Unrecorded Date: Edit

All right, time for some chatter on this ride!

Who plans on going?

Has Jon talked to the managment about helmets. Guess they should be brought, or in my case bought.

Anyone showing up Friday AM? I might.

Roger,
I am planning on being there around noon on friday. I'm packed and ready to go!!!!!!!!!!. John Schwade won't be the only max there again. Hey Big Kodiak are you going? See you there.

Top of pagePrevious messageNext messageBottom of pageLink to this message   By John Schwab (Johnschwab) on Unrecorded Date: Edit

Hi Roger, I will be there friday about lunch time. Jon was hoping to arrive thursday night so as to reserve that same shelter for us.I am planning on bringing a helmet just in case, I will bring some extras. Riding with a helmet never bothers my neck on my street bike or my Quad, but I get a nasty stiff neck in the amphib when wearing one.
I plan on staying until monday morning, last I heard that was Jons plan also. I am not sure if he is back on-line yet but I will let you know more details as I get them.

Roger- You will be traveling farthest as usual, have a safe trip. I am looking forward to a great weekend. The weather forecast looks perfect so far, rain on friday, maybe saturday morning. Gee I hope its not too muddy! Yeah right.
That january weekend was a memorable one. Temperatures in the teens, stiff wind, camping. We must have been crazy, but it sure was fun.

Top of pagePrevious messageNext messageBottom of pageLink to this message   By Rogersmith (Rogersmith) on Unrecorded Date: Edit

Surprising what good therapy and rejuvination this trip was! Three days of friends, food/drink, riding day and night, a truckload of firewood, camping on site w/ showers.

Rained 5 inches 7-10 days earlier, rained and inch Saturday afternoon while we were there. Friday, Sunday was fair weather. Sat afternoon ride, I drained gallons of rainwater out of my open top 8 wheeler. But Sat. nite ride after the final downpour was something else.

Dust+clay+water made some special SLICK GOO. Slick enough that 6 or 8 wheels locked, you're still sliding downhill like a pinball with ruts and gravity determining where you go. Slick enough that it was hard to stand without falling.
There was an open area where we played, so slick you could broadslide forever, the MaxII's would spin like tops in a straight line.

There were 3 maxII's, a conquest, a response, a bigfoot, an avenger. Jon was like a kid with a new toy in his MaxII/23 kohler. I had a mild test drive in it, was quite a change from my station wagon 8 wheeler, lol. Light, short, narrow, in a mudhole you better be ready for it to change directions in a hurry! Never felt the need for rollover protection in my response, but I'd have that maxII on it's side/top in short order! Would love to have one, would be nice to have more than one horse to ride.

John Schwab taped the weekend.

Roger said it very well. It was a terrific weekend at Haspin, one of the best ever. Just the right combination of great trails, great weather, well-maintained machines and most the important thing-a great group of people to ride with. Many folks don't understand why we travel so far for these Haspin weekends, trust me one trip and you will know why.
Greg Orr brought an Avenger which we all expected to be way too big and heavy for these types of inclines and off-cambers. We were all amazed by the ability and agility of the Avenger. Greg got it into and out of some pretty amazing situations
I have put together a 1hr and44minute video of the highlights of the weekend that includes the Avenger action. If I can figure out how to use my new toy the video will be available on DVD as well as VHS.
Can't wait until next time-We are thinking January at this point
