Where in Indiana is Hapin Acres located?

Ken

By argogeru on Unrecorded Date: Edit

Ken,
Hespin acres is in a little town named laurel. You take I-70 east out of indianapolis to 121, about 1 to 1 1/2 hours. take 121 south for about 45 minutes and turn left at the main corners in town, cant miss the main corners it is the only corner in this town. hespins is 1/4 mile down that road on the right.
jon / argogeru

By Australia on Unrecorded Date: Edit

how far from sydney is that?

By argogeru on Unrecorded Date: Edit

to the down under 6x6 brothers.
you guys are approximatly 5000 miles from hespin acres. (give or take a thousand).

By argogeru on Unrecorded Date: Edit

By argogeru on Unrecorded Date: Edit

we will be camping on the south/west corner of the big pond. I will have a sign or something to show people were if their is anybody coming. it is still not posted on the event page. let people know who do not have a computer who might want to go.

By John Schwab (Johnschwab) on Unrecorded Date: Edit

Hi Jon- I am planning on going to the Haspin Acres ride. Please pass along any details or special things about the place, reservations, permits, directions etc.

By ARGOGERU on Unrecorded Date: Edit

It is 15 bucks a day, camp where you want, you half to get a picture id made that cost 3 bucks and is good untill 2005. directions are, interstate 70 from indy to state highway 1 SOUTH, to connersville, pick up 121 in connersville and continue south for about 10 more miles, and then you will come into laurel, a humphrey like town with a few more people, to the four way stop, turn left or east 1 mile, then vear right, up the steep hill and you their. Just a note of caution. LOCK UP YOUR BELONGINGS WHEN AT HESPIN ACRES, TOWN PEOPLE COME UP AT NIGHT THROUGH THE WOODS AND HELP THEMSELVES TO ANYTHING NOT PROPERLY SECURED, TO MY KNOWLEDGE THEY ONLY STEAL FROM PEOPLE WHO DONT LOCK UP, SO LOCK YOUR STUFF UP!

By argogeru on Unrecorded Date: Edit

still nothing on the event page, let people know about the ride

By argogeru on Unrecorded Date: Edit

I talked to the managers at hespins and their new showers a toilets are no on line, any thing is better than what they did have.

By John Schwab (Johnschwab) on Unrecorded Date: Edit

That's good news Jon Thanks. I am sure looking forward to that weekend at Haspin (or is it Hespin)Have you had many responses from folks saying that they are coming?Do we need to puchase permits in advance or can we do that when we arrive friday?

By RickMoMoBigfoot on Unrecorded Date: Edit

argogeru, anybody !! Me and buddy Mark with the yellow bigfoot are planing on getting there friday night.Mark works later than me and takes longer getting ready. But we won't get there till late, maybe 12 or something?!. So will i be able to drive in this place?I guess theres a entry area? Do you know if i'll be paying then ? Is the $15. for riding there and camping both for a day? Thanks for any info and can't wait to ride with everybody. Rick

By argogeru on Unrecorded Date: Edit

John,
I know of 7 machines that have said they are definatly coming, when you arive at the gate house they just ask you how many days you are staying and it is 15 bucks a day, camping included.
Rick,
If you get their late, their probably wont be any one their to register, so you will half to do it in the morning. their is a 3 dollar charge for an insurace card with your picture on it, and it is good untill 2005.
I am hoping to be their by 7:00 friday night and will be camping on the east side of the big pond. after you get to the gate, you will turn 180 degrees and head back the oposite way you came in on the other side of the fence, you will go by a old house and their is good camping back in that area, I will be around that way. I incourage every one to come, as this is the best offroad park that I have been to. I am bringing lots of firewood, so anyone can cook or just sit around and b.s.
My favorite place to ride is around the perimeter of the park, that has every thing from mud to hills, and it is a good 3 to four hour ride to make it all the way around. all 800 acres is pretty much wooded so the sun beating down will not be an issue, and dust has never been an issue except in the gravel parking lots and most of the time they have a water truck and keep it soaked to kill the dust from vehicles going in and out. Hope to see all of you their.

By Craig Lasher (Celasher) on Unrecorded Date: Edit

John,

I am going to try to make it to Haspin, long way from Oklahoma. Will I be able to get my jeep and trailer to the camping area? or will I have to pack in the camping gear. Do they allow Beer in the Park?

Craig

By argogeru on Unrecorded Date: Edit

craig,
You can drive right to where you want to camp. they dont mind beer as long as things do not get out of hand. hope to see you their and drive safely.

By John Schwab (Johnschwab) on Unrecorded Date: Edit

Matt- I think that I feel a very late night ride coming on! We can ride at night there can't we?

By argogeru on Unrecorded Date: Edit

john,
we will have a night ride, or two, maybe three, I am bringing firewood, and their is about 5 machines that are definate and 4 or 5 who might be their. saturday morning we will ride the perimeter, a challenging trail with a little bit of everything.

By John Schwab (Johnschwab) on Unrecorded Date: Edit

Thanks Jon- Do you plan to stay until monday? Is anyone planning to ride monday before heading back home? That is my plan as long as there is still someone to ride with. I will be armed with my ever-present video camera, sounds like we will come back with some good footage. The weather forecast sounds perfect so far!

I had a good time to, from the riding to the food saturday, all was enjoyable, have to do that again, thanks again to all that was there. Jim

By John Schwab (Johnschwab) on Unrecorded Date: Edit

What a great time at Haspin Acres!! Three great night rides, lots of great day rides, the most technical trails that I have ever ridden a 6x6 on ,great food and campfires and the most important thing of all-great people to ride with. Plenty of thank-yous to hand out: Thanks to Argogeru-Jon for organizing the ride. Thanks to Richard Clark for this site that enables rides like this to bring in new people. Thanks to Tom Manning for coming to my rescue on that steep hill with that angled root during the Saturday night ride. Thanks to Angie for not throwing up in Todds trailer. Thanks to Isidore for the three inches of rain the night before we arrived, and the perfect weather afterward. All-in-all one terrific weekend.
I was the only Max there. When I can get all 14 horses going in the same direction it is a beautiful thing! I am already looking forward to the next trip. The video looks good, I hope to finish it up in the next few days. Craig"the Kid" Lasher has offered to contribute the footage he shot to the video so there may be a delay while he sends that to me from Oklahoma. I will let everyone know how it is coming.

By Jdhoath on Unrecorded Date: Edit

john,
glad you had a good time and thanks again for the gas in your max gas tank to get me back to camp!
I am going to ride at HASPINS again sometime in april, I will put a date out in a couple months so people can plan ahead if they want to come. can hardly wait till next time..

troy,
Let me know how many will be coming from your area so I can get a number of people to try to get the discount.

Looks like I'll be coming by myself. I should be there sometime Friday mid-day.
Russ

John, I'll get there early saturday morning, any ideals on where our campsite might be? I liked the spot that Steve had last time we went in April, that was kinda secluded, - Jim

By Midwest atv's #1 since 2000 (Hustler) on Unrecorded Date: Edit

Jon,
I have sent out emails to over 150 people and mailed out letters to about 80 or 90. As soon as I can get a total of how many is going to come, I will let you know so we can see about a discount.

By RickMoMoBigfoot on Unrecorded Date: Edit

I'm going and my buddy Mark is too.Is it $15. a vehicle or passenger too. Rick

By mike martindale (Wetsu) on Unrecorded Date: Edit

troy,
i won't know for sure if i'm going til probably a week before the ride. all this also depends on wether or not i sell the bigfoot.
rick, if i do go you wanna meet in st louis somewhere.i'm guessing you'll run up 44 to 70 right? or are you going to take 270?let me know which way your going, and i'll let you know in plenty of time if i'm going.

By MaxRules (Brandon_price) on Unrecorded Date: Edit

Mike why are you selling the Bigfoot?

By Midwest atv's #1 since 2000 (Hustler) on Unrecorded Date: Edit

Hey Mike,
We will be leaving some time Friday. If you go and want to follow us, let me know.

By RickMoMoBigfoot on Unrecorded Date: Edit

Mike, where i live is off a road called Hwy 30. It is 6 miles from 44 and 12 miles down 30 takes me to 270. I would go to 270 and start heading east it turns into 255. And 255 hits all these Hwys going east.I would most likly head 70 towards indianapolis and 70 east of it.I haven't maped it out yet but i know about where it is. If you are going 44 theres a spot that i'll be close to you. But if 70 is better for you i can change route. The 270 to 255 way bypasses st. louis city and airport and stuff that sucks. If you sell the Wetsu and still want to go just let me kmow befor i invite someone, and you can ride with me in the MoMo.Later,Rick

By mike martindale (Wetsu) on Unrecorded Date: Edit

well brandon, because they cost to much to just give away,BA HAHAHA. no really, it ain't by choice.let's just say it's one of life's little tradgadies and leave it at that.
troy, that sounds like a plan.like i said,i'll let you know in plenty of time.i do already have vacation that week,so at least that part is out of the way.one thing that you all have forgot to mention....are malt type beverages permitted???????

By Midwest atv's #1 since 2000 (Hustler) on Unrecorded Date: Edit

Mike,
From what I understand, the rules are the same as at Deepwater.

By mike martindale (Wetsu) on Unrecorded Date: Edit

ok troy, you almost have me convinced. now for you mr. hoath,is this place worth making a 1000 mile trip???? i trust your opinion, since you have ridden there, and you have given me(knowing or not)some sound advice on,riding and fixing my bigfoot.
mike/wetsu

By matt435 on Unrecorded Date: Edit

Hi everyone, Jon's computer is down. If you have any questions about the ride you may e-mail myself or call Jon at 1-517-278-1775

Matt

By mike martindale (Wetsu) on Unrecorded Date: Edit

ok matt, i'll put the same question on you...is this place worth making 1000 mile trip for? and by the by,that is 1 way.what i mean is....how would you compare it to deepwater? say on a scale form 1 to 10.
wetsu/mike

By Bob Eells on Unrecorded Date: Edit

Do you need a helmet to ride at haspin. How challenging a place is this as I don't have a winch on my maxII.

By mike martindale (Wetsu) on Unrecorded Date: Edit

rick, sorry i just saw your post.i don't think i'll be selling the wetsu to soon.seems everybody out here has the same prob i do.....no cash.don't tell my little woman, but i've put alittle away for this trip.now all i have to do is convince her to let me drive her car,or buy me some new tires.i haven't mapped it out yet either but i think i'll bail out of 70 at wentzville, and run 44 to st louis.then 64 to indi.i need to check first the best way.
troy, which way are you going to go?i still think it would be cool if about 6 of us coming riding up togeether.i'm hoping i can convince roger, and craig to come along....hint hint roger, craig
bob,i checked all the previous post on haspin.and have seen nothing on helmets.but it might not be a bad idea to bring 1.it is better have and not need than need and not have.i'll let you know the sunday before the ride,if i'm going for sure. mike/wetsu

By argoguru on Unrecorded Date: Edit

Everyone,
call me at the number above if you have questions as matt said, I dont know how long this stupid computer will stay running this time.

Mike,
Haspin would be a 10 and deepwater a 3, 10 being the best. I have never ridden at a better place, a the rules are basically just like deepwater, common sense. hope you can make it.

By mike martindale (Wetsu) on Unrecorded Date: Edit

well jon,in that case count me in. if my truck and ooooold trailer will make the trip i will too.

By Midwest atv's #1 since 2000 (Hustler) on Unrecorded Date: Edit

Mike, just take hwy 70 to O'Fallon. That is where I live. from there, we will take hwy 370 to hwy 270 and meet up at my dads house. He is just before you get into IL from hey 270. Much faster and easier then the route you stated above.

By mike martindale (Wetsu) on Unrecorded Date: Edit

yep troy, it will be.i checked an actual map.i was going from memory of when i was in high school, and used to run up to evansville.then i remembered.....i've drank alot since then, and thought i'd bette get out the atlas. heh heh hehhh.and i got your new email address.i still haven't heard anything from roger.

By Roger Smith on Unrecorded Date: Edit

I'm lurking in the shadows, Mike.. too lazy to respond to your e-mail..

Havn't decided really. Would like to go but I'm still a fence sitter

By mike martindale (Wetsu) on Unrecorded Date: Edit

roger,i hope it's a split rail, and not barbed wire.he he.it's time to come into the light, don't be scured,it's ok.did you ever get ahold of craig??? or craig.....are you watching-reading??i think that KIDD needs to come out and play.wadda you say boy's,wanna meet me in st.louie?????or are you going to KANSAS CITY????? i can always change my departure time.
mike/wetsu

By John Schwab (Johnschwab) on Unrecorded Date: Edit

Less than two weeks till the ride and I sure am looking forward to it!
It sure would be great to see Craig and his KIDD there again, he amazed us more than once with his off-road savvy last time.
I sure hope more Maxes show up this time, I was hopelessly outnumbered the last two trips to Haspin. If I recall correctly I was the only Max last trip!
I will arrive around 11am friday and plan to depart around noon monday. Lets ride!!

By argoguru on Unrecorded Date: Edit

Troy,
How many conformations have you had on haspin so far? Who on the board plans on going? I would like to get a rough number to haspin to see about our discount. Jon

By hustler on Unrecorded Date: Edit

Jon,
Right now I have 10 that have said they are coming and 4 more that haven't confirm yes or no yet. I have a bunch more that I am waiting on still. But for now, 10 confirmed.

By mike martindale (Wetsu) on Unrecorded Date: Edit

troy, and jon,i hope you got me counted as 1 of the 10.if not go ahead and count me in.i'm waiting to see which way roger is going to fall off his fence.heh heh.troy,i accidently deleted your email,so send me ph# again.i'm still thinking dark and early in the a.m. friday, for take off.

By matt435 on Unrecorded Date: Edit

Roger and Bonnie, can you make the ride? I would like to see you there and ride togeather again. Matt

By Missouri's Max Dealer (Brandon_price) on Unrecorded Date: Edit

Sure wish I could make this one but it looks like I'll have to pass. I'm getting a Max IV just as soon as I can find one for sale. Hopefully I'll make the next Deepwater ride.

By hustler on Unrecorded Date: Edit

Mike, Yes you are counted as one of the 10.

By RickMoMoBigfoot on Unrecorded Date: Edit

Me and Mark are going.

By mike martindale (Wetsu) on Unrecorded Date: Edit

oh ok,uh brandon, didn't you just acquire a couple of attex's?(i can't remember for surewhat you got)are any of them ridable?or are they still in pieces? the reason i ask is because i may be coming as non-rider,i may have sold my argo.but i will still be there.mostly because i want to meet any,and all 6er's.it's good to be able to put a face with a name.(i remember them better anyway).but with or without my bigfoot i WILL be there.

By bigkodiak on Unrecorded Date: Edit

Wetsu,
Looks like I'll be coming alone if my alternator comes in, in time.
You are welcome to ride some with me if I am alone.
Russ

By Bonnie and Roger on Unrecorded Date: Edit

Matt:
Roger and I will not be able to make this run at Haspin Acres. We havn't been out in the Argo at all yet this year. Roger had reconstructive surgery on both feet in Feb. He couldn't return to work until mid April. Since then he has been working constantly. Talk about hitting the floor running.

I have had a lot of back problems but we are hopefully coming to a solution on that problem.

We hope to be able to make a fall run with everyone. Have a great time. We'll be thinking about you.
Bonnie

By Missouri's Max Dealer (Brandon_price) on Unrecorded Date: Edit

Mike, I got two Trail Bosses a while back to restore. One is almost complete, I'm putting the fuel tank in today and it will then be a running machine. It looks really nice but this is not a vehicle someone like me can take on a ride. This is a yard cruiser for me since I would destroy it within ten minutes if I rode it like a Max.

I'll be ready for Deepwater and I am checking into another new riding area in Indiana. It's called Redbird and they know what amphibious ATVs are (imagine that).

By Bigkodiak on Unrecorded Date: Edit

Bonnie and Roger
Sorry to hear about the health problems, hope you all feel better and return to riding soon.
Brandon,
I don't think a trailboss would last 5 minutes in the woods with you at the stick. My record was about 15 before I started shearing pins.
Russ

By mike martindale (Wetsu) on Unrecorded Date: Edit

well folks,it is official....the bigfoot is sold.i just found out today.(sniff)i'll be delivering it friday.and i will still be at the ride. russ,i appreciate the offer, you make the third.maybe i can play trail lizzard and jump from one machine to another.
brandon, sorry for the mistake on your trailbosses.it's that short term memory thing.since i don't ride like you,and you decide to sell one (cheap)let me know.fear not boy's and girls,i WILL have another 6 wheeler.just not sure when,or what kind.

By bigkodiak on Unrecorded Date: Edit

Wetsu
You should invite the buyer to come out to the ride with you so you can teach him/her how to drive it.
My back is against the wall on coming at this point. The charging system in my BF is out and I am waiting on an alternetor kit to arrive. If it doesn't get here soon, I won't be able to go
Russ

By Midwest atv's #1 since 2000 (Hustler) on Unrecorded Date: Edit

Hey Mike,
You need to get a Max now, hehe. Call me and let me know if you are still going.

Rick and Mark, when are you guys going Friday? Lets try to hook up and follow each other.

How about you Craig and roger? Are you guys going?

By mr. tinker on Unrecorded Date: Edit

By Roger Smith on Unrecorded Date: Edit

Roger's still undecided..

I don't think Craig is coming.. that's a guess, judging from what he said at Deepwater II. Hope he proves me wrong.

There's a chance I'll show up, don't think you want me in your convoy though. I poke along trying to get decent mileage with the trailer. Not like Rick and Mark doing 80, LOL. Hope it's a fun and safe event for all.

By mark harding (Promoza) on Unrecorded Date: Edit

hey mike after you drive my max like i said you could i'm sure you will end up with 1 LOL this is just like the chevy/doge/ford debate i'm sure you will be back befor long so hang in there brother
see you at the ride friday
Mark from Ohio

By mike martindale (Wetsu) on Unrecorded Date: Edit

russ,
are you sure you need an alternater??? if it is a starting/charging problem, you may only need a new solenoid,or even simpler yet....new fuses.when mine would not start/the key that was the problem.thank odg for that pull rope.got me home a couple of times.and i WILL invite him,but i'm afraid it will be tough to watch some one else behind the sticks of the real W.E.T.S.U.(KINDA LIKE GIVING AWAY YOR DAUGHTER ON HER WEDDING DAY)
troy,no need to call.i'll still be there.got a couple of good samaritans, who will let me ride with them, and maybe even drive.who knows i may look real close at YOURS,as in that IV that you've been riding.you know i will have an empty trailer when i get there heh heh hehhh.
roger,my poky friend.if you leave thursday nightyou might catch up to me in st.louis,by 10:00am friday.however it will be short lived, since our paths are not the same.i must go I-64 while yours is I-70. but hey breakfast is on me.
mark, only if they are ALL like yours.who knows i may scare the s--- out of us both.heh heh.
of the few rides i have attended with some of you, this is the one i'm looking forward to the most, and i'm not sure why.i just know i need to be there.

By mike martindale (Wetsu) on Unrecorded Date: Edit

mr tinker,
out standing photo's.that argo tho, just looked to clean to be there.by the way, what kind of tires where on it?

By Midwest atv's #1 since 2000 (Hustler) on Unrecorded Date: Edit

Hey Mike,
That Max IV will look great in the back of your trailer and in your garage. You can ride with me or/and drive the max when we get there. Call me so I can give you directions on how to get to my house. It is very easy. We can meet up with the rest if they let us know when and where to meet.

By bigkodiak on Unrecorded Date: Edit

Wetsu
Yeah I checked all the fuses, replaced the battery and made sure the solenoid was good.
Pulled the voltage regulator, tested conductivity throughout the system.
Noone was sure of the exact problem except to try and replace the voltage regulator then the alternator and the stator. By the time I would have bought all the parts, I could buy the Alt. kit and have more electrical power.
I got the kit yesterday, and got it installed. Everything looks good now, I should be there mid-day Friday.

I woke up and smelled the coffee.. I'm in on this ride :)

Leaving Tulsa Thurs afternoon, spend the night somewhere, drive the rest Friday. Might see you guys on 70. It's Wed nite now. Had to repost, I got to this point right about here, talking about the storm front that's here.. the cool weather and rain knocking down the heat, thinking that camping/riding will be cool and wet.

Then the power goes out:) Hmm, what to do, the neighborhood is down. Stumble around in the dark, out to the garage and find headlights. Find the 12v power inverter, extension cord. Ahh, I have lights. Never mind that, get the computer back up and rewrite a post, lol.

John Hoath and the gang at haspin. Sure was nice meeting all you nice people. and what a great trail ride ride on saturday. That was my wife julie's 1st trail ride. She's hooked. Were thinking really serious about the july 11 outing.

well guy's,made it home this day around 6:30a.m. ( central time). sat down on my couch around 9:45 (c.t.)and crashed till about 20 mins.ago.sorry i left so soon.but when i got to thinking about the drive home, and thought about having to get up at 4:00a.m. monday to go back to work(and DRIVE all day).i decided it would be best if i left last night.
now with that out of the way....i want to thank you all for making this a worthwhile trip for me.especially those that allowed me to ride with them.JON,ROGER,AND MARK. RUSS,i would have ridden with you buddy, but i think it would have been just a little to crowded.since i had the bigger cooler and all.JON,you are a hell of a driver, and i had a great time that first night on the trail.i think that was one of the fastest runs i have ever made in the dark.and as for them beans&weenies....maybe you should think about selling them too,who knows you could make your fortune there.all in all it was worth the trip.
ROGER,what can i say ol'buddy but, thanks.i am surely glad you made it up there.i hope i didn't scare you to bad when i drove you around.heh heh hehhhhh.and thanks for letting me drive (i needed that).and for being a better boy scout than me.
MARK,thanks for the tire, and the ride, and for also letting me drive yours.that 2 stroke has got some real giddy-up.put some grease on that throttle, and you should be able to feather it a little better.keep your eyes open for new sub-divisions going in....they make great places to practice.and as far as the tire...i hope i never have to use it.
once again thanks to all,i had a good time, and met some pretty decent people.

Hey gang, had a great time at Haspin, couldnt ask for better weather, good food an saturday night ride was great, real nice group of people we had, hope to see everyone again, I'll try to get some more info on KY909 ride there, thanks everyone for a great time, - Jim

I wanted to thank everyone that came out for the ride. It was a great weekend to ride. We had 2 people that showed up that was new to 6x6ing and they are both hooked. I think we ended up with 21 atv's. Can't wait until the next ride.

By argoguru on Unrecorded Date: Edit

glad everyone had a good time, and am looking forward to it again. I am glad you enjoyed the night ride in the conquest mike, that was one of my faster night rides as trail boss. the beans and weenies is a tradition at haspin Jim and I have mastered, and it is not the same by not having them for saturday night dinner. thanks also to troy for the delicious venison burger, those were great. Roger, thanks for making the long trip and glad Bob and Julie had a fun first experience. Hope to see you all their again. Jon

like to thank everyone that helped pull me out when i would dig my self in it sucks when you have 47hp and dont use it like it should but i'm a old drag racer what can i say. It stinks when it barries it's self. So other than that i had a very good time and to Matt with the mountain goat your nuts LOL hope to meet everyone again and maybe I'll not get stuck so much and mike i also hope you don't have to use the spare and if you do it only carries a 30 30 grantee

take care all
Mark
P.S. Hope everyone made it home safe

By John Schwab (Johnschwab) on Unrecorded Date: Edit

Wow, what a great weekend at Haspin! That saturday night ride will long be remembered as one of the best ever. Thanks should go out to Jon Hoath for organizing this ride, it takes a lot of effort to make these events happen. I also can't remember a weekend that had fewer breakdowns. It was good to meet some new people and to put faces with some of the names on this board. I look forward to the next Haspin ride, but now it is time to get ready for the July 11th ride in Olean NY, which should be a lot of fun as well.
One of the greatest things about the group last weekend was the complete absence of the Max vs Argo vs Whatever. Once we hit the trail if you needed help or a tow someone would always be right there to help, after we take a few pictures of course
I began working on the video today. It is going to be about three hours long , so far it looks pretty good. I will post here in a few days when the first ones go out in the mail.
Thanks again to everyone for being such a fun group.

By mike martindale (Wetsu) on Unrecorded Date: Edit

jon i forgot to ask....did you ever make it up that hill that you tried saturday?????the one that went straight up.i probably should have had the back seat, who knows you might have made it then heh heh hehhhh.
john s. as soon as i get a chance i'm going to watch last years tape.and i am looking forward to this years as well.as far as the debating goes....when your out in the bush, there is a time to talk and a time to ride.and i beleive everybody came to ride.we'll save the I GOT THE BETTER MACHINE for the board.besides it is easier to say "it's mine"when you are in the comfort of your own home.then when you are actually out with other types of machines, and the proud owners of these machines.
once again i had a good time, and i have already started looking for my next machine.....an 8 wheeler.(sorry troy).

By Midwest atv's #1 since 2000 (Hustler) on Unrecorded Date: Edit

No need to say sorry to me Mike. If you drove are rode in my Max, you might be looking for a Max. I really don't care as long as you get another atv to ride. Bottom line, you just need another one and hopefully it will be better then the one you had. If you want, I will keep an eye out for an 8 wheeler for you. Email me with what you can afford to spend and I will check around for you.

By argoguru on Unrecorded Date: Edit

Mike,
I never got back to that hill but I will climb it next time i am their. that flat rear tire was my problem. you would have been good for traction in the back seat also!!!

By mike martindale (Wetsu) on Unrecorded Date: Edit

sorry jon,i didn't know you were running on a flat.i just finished watching last years ride from john schwab.as i posted in another thread here, excellent footage.it was to bad there wasn't as much mud this year.was that 8 wheeler you and your dad were driving a magnum by chance?
i'm hoping by the time the next ride there,i will have another aatv.but i just bought another house....so i think my aatving will have to be put on hold for a while.i'll still keep reading and posting, but as for riding....well,for now i will have to settle for passengering.
one last thing before i go.i went to a family gathering today.no one there ever heard of a 6wheeler! it was an absolute drag!!!! ihad a better time with all of you folks at this, and all the rides i have attended.i guess we really are a different breed.and no matter what we drive...we really are the best!!!
troy ol' buddy,i'll get with you a little later.after watching john's video,i'm not sure but i may be leaning back more towards the bigfoot.i deffinately liked the ride of the 8,but i still like the clearence, and the agressivness of the bigfoot.of course i DO still like yours, heh heh hehhh.i still have a grand left from selling mine,if your interested.maybe i'll just find an old beater some where and just build one.at any rate i WILL have another.

By mike martindale (Wetsu) on Unrecorded Date: Edit

john schwab,i have just finished watching the "first" 2hrs of this years haspin ride.....outstanding footage.you do good work!
i still have more to go,but it was like i was actually there,"again".can't wait to finish the rest.

january 10 and 11 we will be going to haspin acres. questions? email me.

By Midwest atv's #1 since 2000 (Hustler) on Unrecorded Date: Edit

Hey Jon,
Depending on the weather, I might show up. That is the last weekend of deer season but I have gotten 3 already, so I doubt I will be hunting then. Will you be camping in the same area as before?

By argoguru on Unrecorded Date: Edit

Troy,
I am working on renting one of the rooms upstairs above the restaraunt. if not we will be in the pavillion on the far west side of the parking area by the motocross track.

By Midwest atv's #1 since 2000 (Hustler) on Unrecorded Date: Edit

If you can get a room rented, let me know. I would rather do that. Also, let me know how much for the room.

By John Schwab (Johnschwab) on Unrecorded Date: Edit

Jon- Count me in. Haspin in the dead of winter should be a muddy mess! Sounds like fun. Only 400 miles of wintry roads will keep me away.

By argoguru on Unrecorded Date: Edit

should be muddy I hope, I will be finding out soon about the upstairs rooms and let you guys know.

By bigredwolf on Unrecorded Date: Edit

Hello Guys,

Stupid question, where is Haspin located? I am up in the Detroit area of Michigan. I saw your postings, and figured January is a real boring tine to be at home, and hunting season is over for me. Maybe I could join you, if you guys do not mind riding with a new comer with a new Max IV machine.

bigredwolf

By Midwest atv's #1 since 2000 (Hustler) on Unrecorded Date: Edit

Hey, we want new comers to show up. That is the main reason of having the rides, to teach the new guys how and ride and to teach them how to make it through some of the toughest terrain around. Also to have a little fun. Well, ok, we have a bunch of fun. Anyway, the place is in Laurel, IN. About center to east center IN. We would love to have you there. Its a nice place to ride.

By Jon Hoath on Unrecorded Date: Edit

redwolf,
scroll to the top of the page for directions, and anyone is welcome to come. John would love to see another max their, as he is usually the only max at a haspin ride.

By bigredwolf on Unrecorded Date: Edit

Sounds like it will be a great time. Good chance to meet some new people. I will try to make it also. I scrolled up top and found the directions. Thanks! If I make it I will be coming from the Detroit area. I just bought one of those new Max IV 950T units that recently came out. It has the new 27 HP Kawasaki liquid cooled engines. Lot's of power, awsome piece of equipment! Like I mentioned I am new at this, so I am no where near capable of handling these units likes many of you guys are.

By John Schwab (Johnschwab) on Unrecorded Date: Edit

Hey Bigredwolf- I was kind of new to amphibs a couple of years ago myself. A few trips to Haspin and you will feel that you can handle most any trail. All of the really hairy stuff can be bypassed (just follow me). This is a great group to ride with, they will advise and help you any time you feel you need it.It would be terrific to see another Max there besides myself!

By bigredwolf on Unrecorded Date: Edit

Hello Guys,

I marked the dates on my schedule calender, so I am planning to try and make it down there. I did not see any notes listing the motels and phone number down there. If you guys have any of that info. that would be great.

You know it only took me about ten years or so, to finally break down and decide to buy an Ampibious ATV. I knew that I wanted one, it just never made it to the top of my priority list, until recently. I finally got tired of having to get off of my old four wheeler, and push it through the mud, when i would get stuck while hunting.

I have only had the unit for a couple of month's, however, I have already completely customized it to suite my needs. New custom roll cage, hard top, rear folding tail gate, top cargo rack, more lights, gun boots, and so on. It looks and functions very well for me. If you are interested, you can see some photo's of my unit over on Brendon Prices web site, in the photo gallery area, listed under "Max IV 950T Custom Hunting Rig".

My wife has already band me from using it around the house and in the yard, because I have just about destroyed everything around the yard, including the lawn. Oh well, I am having a great time with it any way.

Thanks
Gary
aka "bigredwolf"

gary,
the closest motels are in connersville, 30 minutes north of laurel. it is a pretty challenging road to travel every day, all of us camp on site and usually have a fire before the night rides and so on. If you want a hotel, go to a search engine and type in connersville indiana and their will be all the info you need for a hotel. Jon

By David Keeso (Argomag) on Unrecorded Date: Edit

Big red WOlf, I know exactly what you mean when you say you've been banned by your wife from riding in the yard etc. Although Im not merried, (God, now now- couldn't do it at 19- don't even have a girlfriend at the moment) but I've been banned from the property at the cottage as well. Too noisy, rip the driveway up, drive our neighbors who our driveway is split with crazy. We had new gravel put down on the driveway about 5 months, and by the end of the week i was up there, I had most of it either in the middle, or off to the side (you know how gravel thats traveld on will move) and now you'd never know their was new gravel put down. My dad finally said, start it, warm it up and get the hell out. NOt quite like that but thats what he was gettin at.

By bigredwolf on Unrecorded Date: Edit

David, David, David,

At the age of 19, I would expect to see you riding that machine of yours around absolutely stuffed full with young ladies. You sit your self directly in the middle to drive, and wedge yourself in by seating the ladies on both sides, and fill up the entire back seat with four or five more. After you have them all seated and arranged well, you just say ok ladies just hold on to me, were going to do some off road ATV'ing.

By BigKodiak on Unrecorded Date: Edit

Guru
Count me in. Let me know about the accommodations.
Russ

By David Keeso (Argomag) on Unrecorded Date: Edit

Bigredwolf, Unfortunatly, at the cottage their is only a select bunch of ladies- They are either way over 500 lbs. and have several missing teeth or they are just plain nasty. Their are a very select few of ladies that are worth while, but when Im at the cottage, they wouldn't likely consider me. However, give me the ARGO in TORONTO and I may be able to snatch a hot one.

By David Keeso (Argomag) on Unrecorded Date: Edit

bigredwolf, one of the other problems I have with taking people in the ARGO at the cottage is that they don't know what to expect as as far as what terrain the ARGO will handle, they go back and tell someone else that I am a horrible driver or something like that and then nobody else will want to go with me. I had one neighbor that saw me doing a really fast doughnut at the end of the road on a big area with loose gravel. Because it was the end of the road, and nobody is up there anyways, I didn't bother to look if anyone was around when I was about to do the doughnut. ITs that quiet that the odds of someone being around when I go by is like 25 % out of 100. Because that person thought I was being careless driving, not knowing why I was pulling a turn so hard that I was almost falling out, they told another neighbor that I was a very dangerous and careless driver. Well that rumor spread quickly and a completely different neighbor heard about it and her granddaughter was banned from going in the ARGO with me and then one day I passed the neighbor that first started the rumor and I stopped to talk. Well my ARGO decided to make the biggest backfire I have ever heard in my entire life when I shut it down and the lady got so freaken scared, she almost went down on the ground. It was not really revenge, but it was really funny to watch. Its one of those "had to be there" things. Then another rumor spread that I was running the ARGO extremely late at night (for that area,) which wasn't true. I soon found out that their was another cottager up there with a Bigfoot and they had friends up and were out around 12:30 at night on day and everyone could hear it, and assumed it was me. They told a friend of ours, and they told my dad that the late night argoing had to stop cause people were getting mad. Now I can't run the argo after 9 pm at the cottage becasue of that one origional rumor that started about me and it drives me nuts. Next time im up there myself, Im just going to go out at 3 am and do laps of the road just to see what happens. I'll likely get in crap but it would be soo much fun!

By david berger (Davidrrrd) on Unrecorded Date: Edit

maybe your time would be better spent finding that "other cottager" who had an argo out after 12: at night
maybe you should teem up so prehaps your argoing could continue, safty in numbers, posably the rumers would stop afecting you,

Troy, your e-mail link off this username seems bad. I get returned mail.

Hello everyone, Happy Holidays. If I have time and $, I'll do a couple rides with you. Havn't rode since last summer's Haspin.

By David Keeso (Argomag) on Unrecorded Date: Edit

David Berger- Oh yes, i've tried. I know where they are, but can't get them to go out. They have asked me once or twice to go with them but it was at a time when I was either leaving the cottage or doing other things and couldn't go. When Im up there at Christmas, and if there there, I'll find a way to get them out and rip around Christmas night and really stir things up!

I could also get a friends on his quad- just some added noise- I can think of a few people that would be just thrilled to be woken up at that time- especially after a night of drinking and added tiredness- hehe, oh I can see the look on one of their faces right now!

If by chance I get knocked out early, I will still show if just for Sunday. I do have it on my website and hopefully, I will still have some guys show up anyway. I have to say, I would like to be there, but I could also use the $10,000 if I win. If I don't make it, I hope you all have a fun and safe ride.

Hey Jon,
How bad is it???

Matt

By John Schwab (Johnschwab) on Unrecorded Date: Edit

Wow, what a great time at Haspin! The frozen ground allowed us to climb up grades that would have been impossible under wet conditions. We had a good group of riders, met some new folks and zero breakdowns.Saturdays night ride was one of the best ever, Argoguru led us on a slow technical course that required skill and patience, what a blast. As usual I was the only Max there again, fortunately my Max II made me proud once more. Matt took some unique photos that I hope he posts soon. I won't divulge their content but I doubt that it has been caught on film before. I look forward to our next ride.

By Jon Hoath on Unrecorded Date: Edit

Hey,
Matt, it steep, but its smoooth!!! yeha!

By bigwolf on Unrecorded Date: Edit

Well sorry that missed it guys! We had an outdoors show to do this past week end. Probably better that I did miss it, I can't seem to hanlde the cold very well any more. My winter camping days were over many years ago. Our local temperature here was around zero degrees over the week end. You guys must have froze out there!

I will definately try to make it when ever there is ride scheduled during the summer months. Then I can pull the fifth wheel camper and bring my wife along also.

By Roger Smith on Unrecorded Date: Edit

Ahh, I needed that. Get outa town, travel, camp, big fires with a drink and a smoke, and a great group of guys and place to ride.

Troy won money? Go for the Titans on your MaxII :) Haspin got rain, then put in the deepfreeze, topped off with a sprinkling of snow/sleet. That's what we rode on. We had the place almost to ourselves, rarely saw others on the trail. Great Ride!

By Midwest atv's #1 since 2000 (Hustler) on Unrecorded Date: Edit

Yes roger, I won money. I may not be that good at some things, but I am good at pool. I have been out of a job since June of 2002. We all know that you can't make a living out of selling these atv's. I have been making money playing pool since being out of work. Haven't missed a bill yet. I just don't win every tournament I am in.

By Bonnie and Roger on Unrecorded Date: Edit

Troy;
Roger and I were wondering how you did in your tournament. Congrats. We didn't know that you were into pool. Roger and his siblings play a little pool about once a year for laughs. Lots of laughs. Was the tournament you were in taped for being televised. We watch a lot of the tourneys on tv.
Sounds like the rest of you guys had a great time at Haspin Acres. We sure miss the weekend trips with you. It sounds like the group has greatly dwindled in number. Hopefully we get to make another one of these days. I don't know how you stood the cold. I think that might be a bigger problem for me than my back. Roger would have no problem since he could just put on some of his extreme cold weather hunting gear.

Everyone take care. Just though I'd drop a note. I still read Route 6x6 often even though we haven't been on a run in awhile. The old couple is still keeping track of all the fun runs you go on.

Roger has been using the ARGO to assist the local Volunteer Fire Depts. He's been called for a couple of rescues.

Hopefully we'll see you at a later fun run.

By Midwest atv's #1 since 2000 (Hustler) on Unrecorded Date: Edit

Bonnie, sorry it wasn't taped for TV. The ones you see on TV are the Pros. I am not quite that good. I have been in tournemants with some well known pros and beat them. They had a pro tournament here last year and I did take 13th out of 59 pros and 5 local guys including myself. I was very happy with my finish and did get a little lucky. With my back, shoulder and both knees being as bad as they are, I am not as good as I used to be. My body usually gives up during the end of a tournament, but my heart will never give up.

By mike martindale (Wetsu) on Unrecorded Date: Edit

jon, roger, john, and all who was there, i wish i could have been there with you all.my weekends are such a drag since i sold the bigfoot.argggggh!!!!just about the time i think i can afford to go get another something comes up that keeps me in the poor house.unless some one knows where i can pick up a 6wheeler for $400.00???????? thats about all got, between now and starvation!i'm afraid my riding days are over for a while longer.troy, congrats on the tournament.john i'm sure you got footage let me know when the video comes out,i'd like to have one. keep riding, and i'll keep reading for now.i'll see you all sometime.
mike ( wetsu )

By John Schwab (Johnschwab) on Unrecorded Date: Edit

Wetsu- Perhaps next time you can make the trip. There is usually an empty seat in someones machine. I did something I rarely do that weekend, I left the camcorder home and just enjoyed the ride, and that was VERY enjoyable. Even though making these videos is fun, it is also work.
Roger and Bonnie- I only met you guys and rode with you at the Badlands once and you seemed like a lot of fun.Hopefully we will ride together again.Actually the temperature was fine while we were riding, although I don't how how Roger and Dave did it without even a windshield, but friday night it was in the single digits so we all hung out in Matts new camper at a cozy 80 degrees!

By Roger Smith on Unrecorded Date: Edit

I thought about you, Mike. Thought about you meeting me in Springfield or Kansas City and riding with me. Maybe some of us can meet for an early deepwater ride.. and camping at Truman lake

By Bob Eells on Unrecorded Date: Edit

Has anyone heard from ARGOGURU OR MATT435 lately?
The posts seem pretty slim picken for summer. I would like to ride with all you guys from last years June Haspin Acres ride. Jon and Matt what have you been up to lately? Same for John Schwad

By John Schwab (Johnschwab) on Unrecorded Date: Edit

Hi Bob- ArgoGuru has been building a new house, without any cooperation from mother nature. As for me, I have been up to my ears in a renovation project on a house that was new before Abe Lincoln went to law school. I will be back in the riding "loop" just in time for all of the great rides coming up in July, the Jamboree in Olean NY, the Ledges ride in Ohio and the Ribits Riders Enduro are all in July. Perhaps we will see you at one of these. We are hoping to return to Haspin in Sept or October.

By Bob Eells on Unrecorded Date: Edit

John,
Good to hear from you. Iwas wondering what happened to all of you guys. I will be attending both the Olean and ledge rides. Hope all is well and am looking forward to seeing you again. I made some chages in my Max II. I put a remote winch and a truck style grill guard on which I had fabed up. Also added a gps unit, high power off road lights and a bilge pump. See you then.

Its On!
The Second Annual Frost Bite Ride
at haspin acres on January 7th 8th and 9th. the best time of the year for good traction and steep hill climbs. We will be arriving Friday morning and leaving Monday morning. For reasons unknown to me, we seem to have all 750 acres at haspin to ourselves that weekend, so their will be no crowds to deal with. Heated bathrooms and showers are on site, what else can you ask for.

By Rogersmith (Rogersmith) on Unrecorded Date: Edit

Whoo Hoo! I live for this stuff.

By John Schwab (Johnschwab) on Unrecorded Date: Edit

Sounds like we can count on seeing Roger that weekend. Our last frostbite weekend was a blast , and as Jon said we had the whole place to ourselves. In Haspin language that means we were able to get some sleep without some inconsiderate moron racing his mufflerless jeep around the parking lot at 4AM!! I will be there with my Max, my camcorder and a cheescake.

By Bob Eells on Unrecorded Date: Edit

Hi Jon H.
Sorry I won't be able to join you at Haspin in January. I will be locked up in the boiler room at this time of the year. Hope all is well and Happy Holidays to you and your family, also too all of the rest of the Haspin gang. Hey Roger, I could'nt have said it any better than that. WHOO HOO!!!! Hey John schwab. Great video. I watched it several times. I especially liked that peculiar position that the Avenger got in to. Cool footage. Any body that goes to one of these rides and doesn't buy your video just don't know what their missing. Well gotta go.

By John Schwab (Johnschwab) on Unrecorded Date: Edit

Thank you Bob for the kind words about my latest video effort. Everyone seems to like the DVD format, there is a noticeable improvement in quality, why you can even see the mud in Rogers teeth! No one has a larger smile on his face than Roger when he is negotiating a technical trail.
I did not think that a machine, especially one as large as that Avenger, could lay over at an angle that extreme without capsizing much less keep running and back out under its own power!!

By Rogersmith (Rogersmith) on Unrecorded Date: Edit

The DVD has better resolution than vhs, but also the sound is way better than tape. In the computer on a software player, it's easy to skip around, slow motion or fast forward in 1/4 to 32x, etc. The neatest thing is capturing a still shot at the press of a key and having it on the computer to view or share.

By Louisiana mudbug on Unrecorded Date: Edit

John Schwab,
I watched your most recent "haspin acreas" video a few days ago, and the clarity was so much sharper than any VHS video that I,ve bought from you in the past. I,ve now watched it three times already! The sound is so much better too!

From now on John, all I,ll be ordering from you, in the future,is DVD videos! The Haspin acreas video was so much more enjoyable when watched on DVD.

When I first watched your most recent haspin acreas video, I was most surprised to see "Argogeru" driving a Max II !! Or should I say shocked!!!!!

He looked like kid with a new toy! I,m also sure he had a blast too, because it sure looked like it! I was also very impressed in the way the new Argo Avenger navigated the tricky technical trail sections at Haspin acreas. I,m very sure the 25 Hp motor, and also the taller 25 inch Rawhide tires, made big difference. It was also quite evident though, that the additional offset on the center wheels, really helped it turn much easier. I was most impressed with it. Fine looking amphib too!

Here's an arial view, a USGS map of Haspin. Pretty cool. It's big, about 1200x1700 res. Download, less than 1 meg, jpg. We have a map now!

I'll try this copy and paste:

Sure is quiet on the board.

Anyone else plan on coming?

How has everyone fared the pre Christmas storm?

By Bob Eells on Unrecorded Date: Edit

Roger,
This is bob from the haspin ride. We got about 8" of snow here in toledo area. But about 25 to 30 miles east and south of us got 19". I won't be able to haspin this time. I'm the only boiler operator left at the high school where I work. Can't get the time off. Been working 7 days and 15 hour days a week staight through the holidays due to the cold. have fun on the winter ride.

By John Schwab (Johnschwab) on Unrecorded Date: Edit

Roger- The usual gang is looking forward to the usual good weekend performing unusual feats with our AATVs. I will be there friday around lunch time. We will camp at the first shelter this time in case the parking area is real sloppy. I hope mother nature provides us with some better travel conditions than she has displayed recently. Matt does not have a camper at this time so I told him that you would be happy to share your accommodations with him.
Gee I don't remember telling him that you sleep out under the stars! Oops!

By Rogersmith (Rogersmith) on Unrecorded Date: Edit

When Bob retires I bet he makes up for lost weekends with the motor home and max2.

John, I might bring camcorder, 8mm. not high 8. Can you play it if I send it back with you?

Matt's coming? Sure, he can share my trailer. 16ft flatbed, hehe.

Searching the web for "haspin" I found allaboutmud.com a bunch of off road characters, based in Ohio area, trucks, 4 wheel atv's mainly. They'll be at Haspin New Year's.. where they reason that drinking and driving won't have the legal implications of elsewhere :)

Anyway, take a look of this pic off their site, "Everglades Limo"

http://www.allaboutmud.com/modules.php?op=modload&name=My_eGallery&file=index&do=showpic&pid=3928

their homepage http://www.allaboutmud.com/

the site has a map of haspin and a haspin forum so I check for info, weather, etc. A lot of humor at the wb site.

Roger,I recently visited the "allaboutmud" website you posted, and it sure has some great places to ride an amphib,,thats for sure!

By Rogersmith (Rogersmith) on Unrecorded Date: Edit

Hey Mudbug. I havn't forgotten about you. Formatted my hard drive and your mail was on the other computer, etc. Have been too busy to make it down your way.. I'm in N.E. part of the state. Going south would be milder weather though!

By John Schwab (Johnschwab) on Unrecorded Date: Edit

Roger- I would be happy to process any footage you want to shoot. There isn't much footage of me doing silly stuff because I am behind the camcorder, I am also the editor. But if you do indeed get me, I promise not to edit it out. Anybody out the want to see footage of Roger running into a tree in broad daylight?

By Louisiana mudbug on Unrecorded Date: Edit

( Roger smith )

Yes,in the past, I,ve had plently of computer related problems myself. ( grin )

Roger,I sure hope we can ride together some time in the future. I,ve now got a great place to ride amphibs. This place has hours of trails to ride on. The trails also hold lots of water when it rains. Its sure worth any ones drive to come here to ride trails.

By Jon Hoath on Unrecorded Date: Edit

Roger,
I will also arive friday around 1100. looking forward to another great winter ride. see you all friday.

By jason roberts on Unrecorded Date: Edit

would like to come to the ride also with a couple of max11's we just need some directions we live in central il.

By Rogersmith (Rogersmith) on Unrecorded Date: Edit

interstate 70 east from indy to state highway 1 SOUTH, to connersville, pick up 121 in connersville and continue south for about 10 more miles, and then you will come into laurel, a humphrey like town to the four way stop(Laurel Ave), turn left or east 1 mile, then veer right, up the steep hill and you're there.

Those are Jon's directions from the top of the page. I come from the west, and prefer to cut SE at Indy, to Shelbyville, then east. It brings you in 4 miles south of Laurel. Can't remember the highway #'s but I prefer the route to the narrow 121 highway fron connorsville.

By Eddie Beddingfield on Unrecorded Date: Edit

Jason, You need to try Rockport Offroad Park it is about a hour from you, but a real good place to ride. Let me know if you want to ride sometime and I'll meet you. Eddie

By John Schwab (Johnschwab) on Unrecorded Date: Edit

Jason- Just to elaborate a bit on the directions for you Exit from I70 at route 1 south towards Connersville. When you get to Connersville Route 1 will turn left at the BP station. You want to continue STRAIGHT at this intersection. You will now be on Western Ave following RR tracks which will be on your right. Just before you leave Connersville Route 121 will come from your left and join up Western Ave. Follow 121 into Laurel. You will pass a cemetery, make a sharp right curve and drop down a hill into town. Make a left turn in the center of town. There is a Liquor store and Kozy Kitchen on that corner. I don't believe that there is a stop sign coming from this direction. If you pass a Marathon gas station then you missed it somehow. After making the left go a short distance, cross a bridge and the entrance to Haspin is on your right. It is a PAVED road that goes off at a 45 degree angle and up a hill. After you stop at the registration drive straight ahead to the first shelter. I drive a blue Dodge pickup with a white enclosed trailer.NY plates
Rogers route is better coming from your direction but this is very easy and once you are there it will be easier for you to find alternate routes.
Tell the lady at the registration that you are with the 6x6 Group. They give us a special group rate. Have a safe trip, We are looking forward to some new folks at Haspin, be prepared to ride your butts off. The weather forcast looks perfect for traveling and riding!!
Almost forgot- it is 27 miles from I70 to Haspin Acres, the directions are actually very easy, basically you exit at Route 1 and keep going straight. See you there

By Jason oberts on Unrecorded Date: Edit

thanks for the directions Roger and John we will be there sometime saturday after we pick up a new max's in Dayton Ohio which isn't to far away our max11's are 2002 450t and 2002 500t both are in the camo color not real powerful but alot of fun we live where its flat and ride the creek bottoms im thinking about dropping in a 21hp vanguard in the 450t how different would it perform i have the 22" rawhides im going to bring an extra set of argo goodyear runamucks they are 20x11x8 short dudes lower gear for maybe a steep long hill with 14hp what kind of tires fit the terrain there? Eddie i still have the argo tracks can you make this adventure?

By John Schwab (Johnschwab) on Unrecorded Date: Edit

Jason- Haspin is notorious for its slime and very steep inclines. That combination usually gives Runamuck -equipped amphibs close to zero grip. I would recommend your Rawhides as a good choice this weekend. Haspin is also a playground for trucks, buggies and quads so very deep tire ruts filled with ooze will be plentiful.

By Eddie Beddingfield on Unrecorded Date: Edit

Jason , I will be working that weekend.I work every other weekend and can only make the rides I am not working.I used the blade I got from you in the last snowfall. It works good but is almost to big. Eddie

By Jason Roberts on Unrecorded Date: Edit

Eddie we past up on the 500t max11 for my friend Glenn and got him a 1998 argo
response 8 wheeler from Fred Sain like mint condition i thought it would be a better machine for him on his farm besides we already no
what a max11 will do, and so we both thought that getting him a different one would be cool now we have a little roadster and a big work horse to run around in, the best of both worlds for what kind of terrain we have here.hope he can keep up with my little max

The Second Annual Frostbite Ride(as dubbed by Roger Smith) was a great time. The entire area had been inundated with rain days before our arrival and that made for the muddiest conditions that I have ever ridden in. All of our winches got a workout. Thank you to everyone who took part in this ride, it is really a pleasure to ride with such a great group.
I put the final touches on the weekends video and the first copies went out in thursdays mail. A special thanks to Roger for shooting a great deal of the footage this time, I promise I did not edit any of my personal bloopers out!

By Rogersmith (Rogersmith) (4.244.174.38) on : Edit

I think Jon dubbed it Frostbite, John. Besides the rain, it snowed 2 ft the week before! I had a great time! Tires stayed on the rims and it stayed dry and lubed in the chain troughs.. I never had to pull a plug all weekend.

My nissan truck wants the auto tranny overhauled, though. The lock up converter was slipping/shuddering on the way home.

The Video's done? You've been a busy man, John. I seem to be developing an addiction for a post-ride movie.

Jason and Glenn showed some spirit, showed up and rode.

By John Schwab (Johnschwab) (69.48.10.166) on : Edit

Hi Roger- Yes it was an excellent ride all around. I am pretty sure that we have made Jason ans Glenn into Haspin addicts also! Once I experienced Haspin extreme terrain, most other places I ride seem pretty civilized.Your video went out in thursdays mail, it is a good one. I was anxious to see the footage and one thing led to another, next thing I knew it was done. Thank you for sharing the videotaping with me, it sure made my ride more enjoyable, besides you caught me screwing up a couple of times. There goes my reputation as an expert rider!! It looks like a spring ride is possible for me after all. If we can go in early April or late March that is. Jon is checking his work situation and then we will set a date.

By jon hoath (66.227.228.67) on : Edit

I am looking toward the end of march, I will call you guys sometime shortly, and we will get a date set. I am hoping for the same conditions that we had last week. what a perfect ride, and we finally completed the parimeter trail in one trip.

By Rogersmith (Rogersmith) (4.244.102.93) on : Edit

Great DVD, John! Viewed on the projector, with the soundtrack fed transducer vibrating the couch when engines rumble... big as life.. hehe

I'll e mail you and get the measurments on your max II seat foam.. I want others to try this seat cushion foam I've found.

By earthmover Jason Roberts (68.76.167.10) on : Edit

thats some awsome footage captured on DVD John Schwab thanks for taking time out to get it recorded we had a blast and will be back Glenn
wont quit talking about how well Roger controls that 8 wheeler nice job Roger! It was nice to see how three different hp max11's could do under the conditions and terrain we had at Haspin

By Fred Sowerwine, Montana's Max dealer (Fred4dot) (216.166.168.53) on : Edit

I'm curious Jason, just what difference did you observe concerning the Max IIs.

By Rogersmith (Rogersmith) (4.244.93.113) on : Edit

I never would have guessed Jason's was only 14 hp by the way it ran.

If Glenn wants some tech support on his 8, you guys can e mail me about his argo. Sounded like he had chain and maybe sprocket trouble.

After watching two of John Scwabs "Haspin Acreas" videos,I must say Roger, I was simply amazed in the way you were able to maneuver your Argo 8 wheeler. In all of the tricky and techical sections at Haspin Acreas, you were able to make it all look so easy.

By Louisiana mudbug (207.254.199.10) on : Edit

( Roger Smith )

After watching the new Argo Avenger easily navigating "most" of the tricky techical trail sections at Haspin Acreas,I then began to wonder what all it would be capable of,if Roger Smith were driving it. He is one amazing Argo driver for sure!

With its more aggressive 25 inch tires, higher ground clearance, and much larger motor,it very easily conquered just about every trail section at Haspin with ease.

Roger, I could see you in one of these. ( grin )
If Roger rode an Argo Avenger, he would be very hard to beat.

By John Schwab (Johnschwab) (69.48.13.196) on : Edit

It is always a pleasure to watch Roger pilot his big Response through the technical stuff. To those who have not seen it, it is very similar to watching a motorcycle trials rider. Very low rpms, very little tire spin. He has rigged his throttle to lock at the desired engine speed and often leaves the drivers seat to put his weight where it is needed.
Our next Haspin adventure will be the weekend of March 19-20. I don't expect to see any dust this time either!!
I am glad that you guys are enjoying the video, Roger shot about half of the footage. Since we all tend to develop habits, even when videorecording, it was refreshing to see a different "perspective"

By Rogersmith (Rogersmith) (4.244.96.206) on : Edit

Thanks for the compliments, guys. I guess you overlooked bumping the trees.. one in each tape, LOL. Well, one was in the maxII, where my t20 experience is short.

By Charlie Pike (216.188.235.113) on : Edit

I would like to see that video, how much and who do i send it it to?

By Rogersmith (Rogersmith) (4.244.171.141) on : Edit

Jon's Dad is getting an Avenger, so we'll be seeing him in the movies. I'll leave the avengers to him and Greg Orr. Greg pushes the envelope to the edge already, hehe.

Charlie, the video guy is John Schwab. Click on his name and you'll get to his e mail.

March 19/20? very well, then.

By BigWolf (68.40.23.217) on : Edit

I was going to try and drive down for your last ride but ended up not doing it at the last minute. I have talked with Jon Hoath a couple of times on the phone, so I have a much better idea how you guys are set up for camping on site with your enclosed trailers. I was more concerned about where to stay at, once I did arrive down there.

I should have a hitch installed on the wifes fifth wheel soon, so I will be able to tow the atv trailer in tandem behind the camper. I plan to try and make it to your March ride, and also a couple of other rides during the year. Jon mentioned a ride in New York during the late summer or fall at Olean.

I will probably try to bring the wife along as much as possible, since she enjoys taking her camper out for week end trips and so on.

If you ever get the chance to make one of the Haspin Acres rides, you will really enjoy yourself
thats for sure! I,ve now watched a few of Johns Scwabs Haspin acres videos, and this place has some really challenging terrain! Lots of steep hill climbs too!

Just about all of the Haspin acres rides have been dominated with Argos 6x6,s and 8x8,s. Johns Max 11 being the only other Max 6x6 at the Haspin acres event. The most recent Haspin acres ride had two argos 8x8,s and I think also three Max 11 6x6,s? I,ll have to watch the Haspin acres video again I guess to be sure,,,ha-ha

I,d love to make it to one of the Haspin acreas rides myself, but its too far away for me to drive. I have an awesome place to ride my Max IV now, thats only 20 minutes from my house.Hours of great trails.

By earthmover Jason Roberts (68.76.167.30) on : Edit

Roger, Glenn's Argo didn't have the Springs on the chain pads thats where the slapping sound was from and he fix the ignition it just needed to be tighten he is all fixed up now and is ready for the next ride.

By earthmover Jason Roberts (68.76.167.30) on : Edit

Fred there was a 18hp and a 23hp and my little 14hp we all had 22"rawhides i wondered if i would be able to keep up with these higher hp machines including the three 8wheelers i was able
I climbed really steep hills and went thru horrible mud holes, ditches, quick sand streams and creeks drove over car hoods and other things that Haspin acres had for dinner at one time or another, yes there is a few off road vehicles that never made it back alive they just leave them because you would need a CAT D9H to winch them back up the mountain anyway i could see a difference in throttle response with the bigger hp max's climbing steep hills - gives one a little more momentum and one could get into trouble easier with bigger hp climbing to much
throttle and over backwards you go. Jon Hoath has a 23hp max and is a really good aggressive driver no fear kind of guy if you can keep up with him your doing good.We had a little race on the night ride on a round short track with about 3"of water running thru it, I raced Jon Hoath he smoked me then had JOHN Schwab race him he won again but it was real close. with the slipperly conditions the 14hp probably was as equal just not in a race.the little 14hp was the only machine that did not have to get pulled out it was used to pull out all others (lol)
