hey everybody,
Still slaving away on my scrambler 1000 project. But I have run into some problems mainly with roll pins. 1. I cannot seem to get the roll pins on axles to come off I have tried everything heat,punch and hammer, air hammer, but all it seems to do is bust the roll pins they just split apart and i'm using a punch the same diamter as the roll pins. So now about half of them are broke flush with the axles. and the still won't budge. I have even tried drilling the broken ones out but I cannot get very far with the drill. 2. the little roll pins on the outside of the transmission sideplates are the same story all they want to do is bend. So i am about to go nuts!! Also Where do i get a driver clutch that uses the small width belt like the scramblers use? And the friction material for the transmission?. And last but not least My scramblers axles have large springs on them with what seems to be friction material between them and the sprockets. What function do these springs have? Any help would be very very helpful

damen the spring clutch sproket thingy protects dive train from exeseve forces that might brake chains or somthing, it will slip at times when overloaded to equelize tork at all tires on that side, or something like that

You need is a roll pin punch. They have a small pilot tit on the face of the punch to keep the pin from sliding off. Soak the pins and wheel flanges in PB Blaster. This takes at least a week if you are not in a rush. On the transmission look at the pins to see if they are all the way through. Don't try to force them out through he blind side. If the pin is all the way through both sides of the yoke or brake cylinder hitting it from both sides helps to free them up. You don't need to remove the slave cylinder pin from the yoke, they can stay attached to the yoke. Heating the wheel hub pins red hot should anneal them to make them easier to drill out. The hubs will need a backing plate type puller or the hubs will bend. Excessive use of a slide hammer on the studs will bust them off. The hubs are tubular and expand well when heated. You can also trim the pins short with a hand grinder to keem them from bending. If you use spring pins to put thing back together, double them up with one inside the other. Also add a safety wire thru the ones on the transmission to keep them from falling out. You can get the clutches relined from shops that do industrial clutch relining. They are expensive but thy use heat and pressure to bake the glue. ayou can try a high temp epoxy and friction material from McMaster Carr to do your own. Heat the inner clutch disks hub to remove them from the shaft. Using a press or puller with out heat will bend the disk.
