HELLO MY NAME IS PAUL AND I OWN 3 MAXES. ALL OF THEM ARE 2 STROKE BUT I WANT TO MAKE THEM 4 STROKE. I BOUGHT 2 18 HP BRIGGS. ENGINS TO DO THE MAX II AND THE MAX IV. MY PROBLEM IS THE CLUTCHING. I KNOW I HAVE TO CHANGE THE ONE OFF THE ENGINE BUT DO I HAVE TO CHANGE THE OTHER ONE? WHAT ELESE IS THERE TO CHANGE? I DON"T WANT TO GO FAST BUT I WANT LOTS OF POWER TO GO UP STEEP HILLS. I ONLY LIKE TO GO WHERE NO ONE ELESE CAN. SO I DON"T NEED A 2 STROKE SCREAMING TRYING TO CLIMB OVER LOGS AND HILLS. ANY INFORMATION WILL HELP. THANK YOU SO MUCH PAUL

HEY PAUL: you don't need to replace the pulley attached to the t-20 tranny on your way from two cycle to 4 cycle engine.....but WAY TO DO THAT??? if your two cycle engine are find you should keep that way....two cycles engine spin at + 5000 rpm..
the smaller two cycle motor on max is the jlo 295 at 20 h.p....then the jlo 340 at 27 h.p. and the kawasaki 440 at 40 h.p....so with the proposed 18 h.p. 4 cycle you will "down grade" your max power...sure you will find less vibration, less noise, less polution, les fuel burning but also less power...torque value on 4 cycle is reached at lower rpm than the 2 cycle ones but that doesn't really matters due to the torque converter feature ( clutch+belt+t-20 pulley system) that automatically change overall ratio acording to torque input....bottom line is that if your actual configuration is mechanical sound is better to keep that way!!!!!!!!! you should check belt condition...maybe is worn out and that make you feel "lack of power"..also if exaust flexible drop burned oil over the belt it will slip..... the "right" belt is the one that mention "variable speed" the "right" wide is +1/16" to -1/16" of top of belt over t-20 pulley edge...the "right" leight is upto one inch drepess at center of pulley.....to tight and you won't find "neutral" too loose and you won't get low reduction factor ( maybe your case!!!)....

happy bouncing!!

I am looking for a used engine for a 1985 kx 125. It must be in good running condition. If you know any thing, and can help me please contact me.
