Points, point gap, and timing for JLO Rockwell as used in Chaparel 2J?

I want to get it running again.

Two wires come off the engine, both appear to go to the same terminal on the coil, so where do I add power for ignition?

Anyone have a manual or at least a wire schematic for these engines or vehicles?

All replies appreciated!

Let me know what engine you are looking for specs for. Ignition power comes from the magneto in the engine.

HEY TERRY:

jlo 297 is rated at 20 h.p.....

It should have about 18 HP. If you don't have a manual contact Richard.

I think the JLO 297 puts out 21 Horsepower.

According to my old snowmobile manual the L296 is rated at 17.5 HP @ 5000 RPM, for comparison the L300, which is listed as having identical bore and stroke is rated at 19.5 HP @ 5500 RPM. All the specs shown for both motors are the same, including the carb make and model.

I just bought another Attex. This one is a 400 chief. It has a Rotax 340 in it that runs. It also came with a JLO 400(399). Which would be the better of the 2 engines to use? I have a JLO 440 in my other machine and I know it inside and out. I have no experience with Rotax engines.

what engine and hydraulic pump do i need for a six wheel jigger?

Top of pagePrevious messageNext messageBottom of pageLink to this message   By gpd4 on Unrecorded Date: Edit

My jigger is running on a 10hp Briggs. It's been re-engineered a few times, but it works OK. Still needs new cables and brake linings, though. I don't have a hydraulic pump.

will i have a rule of thumb for air cooled 2 strokes thats prity cloase for most, it's 11cc's per hp so a 252cc would have aprox 22.9 hp or 22-23 hp
call it 20 hp
a 340cc the would be aprox 30.9 or call it a 30hp
and so on,

I'm not familiar with the L362. Are you sure it's not the L372/380?

I just bought a 1974 MF Ski Whiz. It's model 404 which has a JLO 400 twin. I only get spark out of the right cylinder. does anyone know where i can get a new or better shape set of points? otherwise im probably going to sell it.

Have you pulled the cover and looked at the points yet? Usually they just get really green and some sandpaper will get you spark again. Also, check the wires on the coil and the plug cap. the wire screws onto a threaded stud inside the coil and also screws onto a threaded stud inside the plug cap. I have seen these loose and corroded.
Another thing to try is switching wires from the coils to verify the left side coil and wire assembly will give you spark.

it also may sound stupid but if you leave out the plug that dosent fire and try to start it, you might be able to run engine this way for a few minuets, this sometimes beats the points that don't fire till they decide to conduct electrisity,
i have done it myself three times,
im not known for replaceing points,LOL
