Wes, you may have snapped the shear pin that holds your clutch plate to your axle. I had this happen to me, but on my reverse gear plate. I only had power going to my left side. You may also want to look at your main shaft bearing it may be bad. I have taken my transmission apart several times, it's no big deal. Make sure you have a bearing puller and good set of punches.
Good luck

Off topic for the right turn problem. I am new here. Just picked up a 69 or 70 scrambler with 8hp B&S engine. Got a great price, rubber's good, and everythings seems to be there except the shroud around the engine to duct cooling air out the back.

Question: does anyone know what torque converter it has? How is it secured to the crankshaft. No end-bolt in place, or setscrews I can find outside or inside the converter. Maybe it's just rusted in place?

Anyone located a source for these or parts for them?

No numbers readable on the belt. Anyone know who makes one? What number? Should it be adjusted fairly loose, like on gokart torque converters or tight, like it is now?

Any help would be appreciated, here in the discussion area, or to my e-mail address. Thanks.

p.s., anyone want pics? I have dozens now of every area in the ATV. I'd be happy to e-mail.

Can anyone tell me how much friction material there should be on the tranny of my '69 or '70 Scrambler? You know, the material that looks like disc brake pads. I have about 3/32" thickness of material on each side. That seems like very little, but I don't know. How badly worn is my tranny?

Finally got my first ride in my Scrambler. What a kick! But... I, too seem to have less right turn than left turn. However, during the nearly two hours we exercised the beast, the problem seemed to decrease, i.e., the right turn problem seemed to fix itself. Could it be that the clutch surfaces just needed to clean off years of accumulated who-knows-what, since my Scrambler had been sitting, uncovered, and with the top off for nearly 2 years that I know of, and who knows how much longer?

Whatever, can anyone tell me how much I can safely tweak my governor above the 3600 rpm my local shop set it for? I realize that B&S won't agree to any increase, but surely these things can run faster than that. Flat out, my Scrambler runs about at a fast trot, maybe 8-10 mph?

How much speed should I expect from the B&S 8hp in this machine?

Sydney, Don.t expect much speed with this motor.Recently i I bought a scrambler that
alledgedly had only 16 hours on it.
It was owned by a Mayor of a small town and he didn't ride it but a few times. Everthing was original. The engine was a 12hp. Tecumseh with overhead valves. The average speed was about 25 to 30 miles an hr. Maybe you could change it for a few more hp. Maybe this will help you.

I recently bought a Scrambler and I had to tune up the engine, fix the fuse line and pump, replace my left side fluid line for my clutch, a new battery, buy one floatation tire, tape up all my wiring, and now I am hunting down a belt. I have the old one with the number I am trying to hunt one down. I love working on it. If anyone has another they would like to sell please email me. Also I want a manual if anyone could send me a copy or let me buy one off them it would be greatly appreciated. Anyway I have been fine without it so far. Thanks again.
