Keep checking on Ebay for Arctic Cat snowmobiles that use a Kawaskai 440 enigne. You will probably find a whole sled cheaper than just an engine.

Mike,
Would that motor have been put in snowmobiles too ? There are a few places you could put ads that might scare one up out of a sled.
Kevin

make up your own harness. sled sites have 'saki diagrams. forget floaters, buy runamucks, they are the closest and better.

mikesmax, are you looking for a runner or a rebuilder Kaw440? Where are you at? If it's in snow country, these engines should be available. They were used in more snowmobiles than just Arctic Cat. I recently found some rebuilts going for $400-$500 + core, no carb, no exhaust and w/o the driven pully/clutch. You get the idea. I just pulled one from a sled and it is on my bench. Keep in mind that not all Kaw440's are the same, there were changes made for different applications and year models, ie heads, intakes, carbs etc.

I am doing a two to four stroke conversion in an old Max II for a customer right now. It has a 440 that runs. The owner said one cylinder was weak and didn't run very well. I have it out of the vehicle now and found one spark plug loose (of course causing low compression) and no belt on the cooling fan. It's possible nothing is really wrong with it but I can't say for sure right now. I have all the wiring and both clutches. I haven't asked him what he plans to do with all the old parts. If you are interested I'll see what he wants for it.

If there was no belt on the fan and that engine was run without it, it could have caused the cylinder temp to rise and possible damage the chrome bore lining. Suggest that somebody pull the heads and check the chrome lining for heat damage,ie., peeling, pitting, flaking. The Kaw440 even when the axial flow fan was working properly did not have a good heat dissapation in the cylinders. Sure they can be re-chromed or re-lined but that is pretty expensive.

just look for an old kawasakki invader that motor should scare the hell out of you and your atv i had one it hit 110 mph on the lakes not bad for a 79
