Attex has single cyl jlo eng., whatis rotation direction from torque conv. side? My attex has the older atv trans, and goes forward when controls are pulled rearward,is this normal? On drivers left side drive sprocket (on trans shaft)there is a small hole through sprocket and shaft, should this be pinned?,(it isn't).
Thanks, Bill T.

BILL T YOUR ENGINE IS BEHIND THE TRANY AND THE BELT IS DRIVEN OFF THE TOP OF DRIVE CLUCH ON ENGINE TWARDS THE TOP OF TRANY'S DRIVEN TORK CONVERTER PULLY, ITH GOS ARROUND FROUNT AND THEN BACK TO ENGINE ON THE BOTTEM,
DOSE YOUR OLD STYLE TRANS HAVE THE REVERSE GEARBOX BETWEEN THE LEFT AND RIGHT DISC SET'S?
OR IS IT ONE WITH ONLY A SINGLE SHAFT FROM ONE SIDE TO THE OTHER?
IF YOU HAVE THE ALUMINUM PUMPKIN BETWEEN THE DISC SETS TRY ADGUSTING GEARS TO SEE WHAT HAPPENS,

Thanks for the rapid response David, I just aquired the attex and the more I look at it the more questions I have. If you don't mind here goes, my transmission is a type that has a lever on top that has three positions i.e. forward, neutral and reverse, the engine rotation is as you described, counter clockwise when viewed from the torque converter end. The attex moves when the controls are pulled rearward, this seems backwards to me, am I correct? If so why?, any remedy? Are the two large assemblys on the outboard side of the transmission planetary gears? I'm confused about the "missing pin" on the drivers left side of the transmission, if not missing, why have the hole? The machine appears to be in decent shape, tires and rims upgraded, sound body etc., and I don't want to damage it through lack of information. I live in south east lower Michigan, am retired and have some machine tools and machining experience so if I can get started in the right direction I'll be six wheeling.
Thanks, Bill T. ( 586 727 9898 )

ok so it'is one with a reverse, it's good that your a machinest, this revers gearbox has some weakneses not unlike even the t-20, there is a posability the shifting components inside it are worn out or broken, this im told is an easy thing to repair for machinests, once you see one torn down you will marvel at how lightwheat the components are for what's expected from them, yes the outer disc asemblys contain diferentials, planeterys on one hub, ring gear on other and sun gear runs off shaft, if brakes hold inside disc firmly enoph the power is directed to the outside disc wich is conected to the sproket sets, if the disc on outside is firmly held the power escapes unused to the inside disc and at same time the outside disc your holding by vertue of its conection to the sprokets will achive braking efort for that side of machine = to vareying input efort,
in my last post i think i asked what hapens when you try each trany shifting input(that lever on the top)
if i remember correctly (it's bin a while)
your trany dose need to turn a little to get it to finnish shifting into new gear, might be wrong about that part, but try that while you shift that lever, turn the driven cluch in direction of engine rotation, tie or have someone hold laterels in forward nutral and in reveres while you add the forward turn's to see if it shifts into a new direction, also see what the new directione dose, "cause this is is where my memory go's a lil greay"
back to the weaknesses, check to see if that top levers detend ball is functioning corectly, this is what can cause the internal waire to the shifting fork, a new fork if you need one shold be easy for you to make, these are not trany's richar clark will have parts for, but if this is a problem with your trany and you do find there is no gear or only one gear responce to the above test and you have to tear it down and replace that fork and of coarse the detent device's you might want to make up a number of copys and make them available to felow attex owners here on route6x6 by way of prehaps richars clasefyeds and i guess threw responces to future posts from the older attex modle owners,
im not shure about that sproket hole thingy, i'd have a bit of trouble right now going out to look at my old trany,
last one i remember looking at had sprokets made on the disc hub, seperat seams better, but im not able to anser that question right now,
what the other side like?

Bill,I think I know why your machine goes forward when you pull back on the sticks,I have done the same thing myself(its really easy to do it wrong)There is brake mechanisms on each of the planetary gearboxes(near the bottom of the trans...your steering linkage hooks to them)These are more than likely put in backwards. Its not hard to fix, just time consuming. On my attex,(1968) pushing the sticks forward is how you move.Pulling back on the sticks is the brakes...It does not change for forward and reverse. You can call me just about anytime, and I will explain it to you.I live in northern Ohio(by Cedar Point)Daron@ 419-663-6252
