Greetings. I am new to the 6x6 scene. I found this mine setting in a field and picked it up for a very little. It has a Kohler engine. On the front it says "Iola molded plastics". I am working on getting the engine running. It is missing the transmission. Any help would be appreciated. Thank you.

I think you may have a Kadoo, made by Imp Boats in "Iola" Kansas.

i forget to mention....kadoo is fiberglass bottom and top..not plastic!!!!!..so sound foolish "iola molded plastic" for a fiberglass construction?????? anyhow both material bounce great!!!!

Doy, Congradulations on the 6x6 find. The picture does look like a Kadoo.Like the Realators say "loads of potential" .Looks like something I would haul home, welcome to the club!! I had an old Email from someone in the midwest who had some info on Kadoos but a computer crash lost it.Before you posted the picture I was going to suggest guessing what it was to be the next Route 6x6 contest. Good luck.

You guys are great. It seems there are different types of t-20s. Can anyone help with what to look for? Pete: If yours is worse than this you have a long way to go too. :)

Top of pagePrevious messageNext messageBottom of pageLink to this message   By pete6x6 on Unrecorded Date: Edit

Doy,

From the dicussions I've had yes there are different versions of the t20. Namely there are models with problems with one of the shafts breaking richard clark has parts to fix this. He would be the person to contact about that. Luckly my Attex has a good tranny. The attex I have mechanically is okay but the mody in the rear was damaged severly so I'm using diamond plate to patch up the rear so I think that will be good enough:) and yes there are days when I'm up to my elbows in grease literally :) I have a website on it im working on www.wraith-os.com/6x6.

I JUST PICKED-UP THIS MORNING AN ALL ORIGINAL SCRAMBLE FROM AN UNCLE, HE BOUGHT IT BRAND NEW IN I BELIVE 1969 OR 70 IT'S RED WITH A WHITE BOTTOM,NOW IT HAS BEEN INDOORS BUT HASN'T BEEN STARTED IN A LONG LONG TIME. I WAS TOLD HE PUT OIL IN THE CYLINDER AND THAT IT SHOULD START.MY QUESTION TO ALL YOU 6WHLERS IS WHAT SHOULD I LOOK FOR WITH THIS MODEL(IT HAS THE STEERING WHL AND A 7HP BRIGGS-STRATON ENGINE FROM WHAT THE PAPERWORK SAYS)THE PAINT STILL LOOKS SHINEY BUT ALL 6 WHLS ARE FLAT, I HEARD YOU COULD GET ADAPTOR PLATES?FOR PUTTING ON NEW WHLS?ANY INFO WOULD BE GREAT!

Tom,

Great find! couple things we have to go over. You can use marvel mystery oil in the top sylinder not alot put maybe a pint should do. Let it sit for at leat 3 hours then crank the engine over manually. Then after you get it started let it run for abotu an hour then cool and change the oil. Also take off the air cleaner and spray some starter fluid if it does not want to start whcih is usually the case with old briggs engines. The tires you should see if they hold ait usually around a few psi as they are low pressure tires. If they are the old floatation tires don't mess with them unless they are in very good shape. You can get wheel adapters from Ruchard Clark the guy that runs this site and you can use anything from standard knobbies to goodyear rawhides on a scrambler or variations of that. also I'm uncertain as I have an sabs body but I think scramblers or fiberglass so any rerpairs can be made with bondo. If you want to cheap out like 'I did to get your ride going as for tires check out northerntool.com they have knobbie tires for pretty cheap about $40 or so. the other thing about the engine as to those yearsis check the points for pitting and check al lthe bolts around the engine for proper torque. If the carb leaks when you put gas in it and or sputters you will have to take the carb apart also. Hope this helps.

Tom,
Sounds like you have a model #1000 with the gas tank in the back. Pete6x6's advice sounds right, but one thing I would be careful about is the gas tank in the back leaking. Scrambler put a 2 gallon gas can with a glass water trap and this seems dangerous to me if it was old or new. I would try and come up with a tank for the front, I do not have one right now but I'm sure it would not be that hard to find with a little time. As for the wheels and tires, if it has the old flotation tires and they don't hold air then get the adaptors from Richard Clark and spend the money and get the Rawhide 111's. These tires a soft enough for the Scrambler and give very good traction. Good luck with the new machine. Richard Burley

THANKS FOR THE HELP SO FAR,I'M IN THE CLEANING PROCESS RIGHT NOW BEFORE I TACKLE THE ENGINE OVERALL IT LOOKS IN GREAT SHAPE, THE PAINT EVEN STILL SHINES!QUESTION:DID THESE HAVE A BATTERY FOR THE LIGHTS OR DID THEY RUN OFF THE ENGINE?

Top of pagePrevious messageNext messageBottom of pageLink to this message   By mr scrambler on Unrecorded Date: Edit

Tom
The model 1000 with a 7hp briggs did not have electric start and had a small 6 volt dry cell battery in the front of the machine behind the lights. The 7hp did not have a alternator unless someone has replaced the engine at one time. Richard Burley

IT'S ME AGAIN.QUESTION:IF IT'S A DRY CELL BATTRY, DO THE LIGHTS RUN SOLEY OFF THAT OR DOES THE LIGHTS RUN OFF THE ENGINE? SEEMS LIKE THE LIGHTS WOULD RUN THE BATTREY DOWN QUICK,ALSO DID THE HYDROLIC BRAKE SYSTEM WORK WELL.THANKS TOM...

Top of pagePrevious messageNext messageBottom of pageLink to this message   By mr scrambler on Unrecorded Date: Edit

Tom
The lights ran off the battery only, a dry cell battery will usually put out a little less power over a longer time than a wet cell. Yes the hydraulic steering and brakes work well when you have good seals and lines and the pads are not worn too much.
