Hello,
I have an auctual argo dealer's repair manual for argos from 1970-79 I am willing to make doulbles in binders and sell them to anyone who wants one. It covers all argo models from 70-79. plus a section on kolher 2 stroke engines and
tecumseh 4 stroke engines and walbro, tillotson carbs. it covers dealer preps, complete tear downs
of trannys, frames, adujusting and replacing brakes, chains, belts, clutches, axles and rewirings.it has very nice diagrams of wiring on all the 70's argos, and brakedowns of them from body down to the frame including,
trannys full, brakedowns and part numbers. plus much much more!!! very nice pictures and diagrams of all parts and wiring. just let me know who wants a copy and I will get a price on them!

P.S. give me the info about you argo like model name and number and I will check the manual for your argo, your argo must not have the stock engine in it because it does not specify that argo made a model with a charpell engine.

I'd be interested in the section on Tillotson carbs. Please email me with a price on that.

Thanks

Damen,
That would be great!!The only # I have is
the tranny, it's#2965G. I am new to argos but
plan on starting a ground up right away. Let me
know how much. The motor I'm told is not original
but someone made it look like it belongs.
I have one concern that maybe you could
comment on. I'm worried that the brakes are going to overheat,is this a problem with these
and if so what do people do about it?
Where are you from?
Thanks for your help, Randy.

Hi I have a Stalker and was wondering if anyone has any information on it or maybe had some experience with one. I have some cracks in the body, I assume it's ABS because it softens when exposed to acetone. It also has a hole, any thoughts on repair? I would also like to know the clearances in the steering clutch packs. Thanks in advance for any help. Bill

Randy, If the brakes are the origional system from when the argo was made, than the brakes will likely not be a problem If they are mechanical than maybe, but not a problem a little fan and duct work wouldn't fix. If you are getting new brake pads, overhaul the brake system in the process to ensure max brake ability even if the system seems to work fine. I wouldn't recomment brake pads from anywhere else than ODG because the pads are made to be used on that system. They are better than a BMWs brakes I find and they will likely give you pads that are used in models like the Response. The only downside to this is that they are very squeaky at medium brake but it goes away after a while. They are great brakes especially if you have the hydralic system.

looks like it came from the factory with a xenoah g44b engine or a techumsa OH160 and I would say its a 1974-1976 model hard to place with out the tag number on the fire wall.

As for the brakes I have a 1974 argo SuperSport (rare super limited edition argo made strictly for racing!)I the only problem I have had with the brakes is when you wash out the inside of the bady if you get the brakes wet they do not like to work for about ten minutes. Yes the brakes overheat if you drag on them. but that can be prevented by keeping the sticks pressed up against the dash while driving. and what people usuly do about it is get a brake fan kit from argo. or run there own using small 12volt fans and a toggle switch. to turn them on and off.

as for the ripping donuts yeah there alot of fun. Mines got a 40hp CCW snowmobile engine in it from the factory so it rips awsome donuts in the mud and in high gear does 55mph on the dirt! I dont recomend trying high speed runs till you really get down your skid steering you can go from a slide to a fliped 6x6 in about 2 seconds if your tires catch, came damn close to rolling mine over the winter I was sliding sideways under full throttle when the leftside tires caught a rut it went up on one side luckly it came back down but it could have been much worse!

as for the manuals they are 20 dollars U.S. plus shipping.

I can't wait to hear more about your argo can you post any pictures?
I live in grass valley ca

where you at?

Thanks for the input guys!! I guess the brakes
which are not hydraulic should be fine if the
factory was using 2 stroke twins. Damen, let
me know when you have a manual ready. I and I'm sure many others will appreciate it.I'm from NY,
oh well. Unfortunately someone painted it all
flat black and used some kind of good primer,
so that may be the biggest challenge.
Thanks again, Randy.

randy,
On the body try using green scothbrite pads and warm water. sounds weird, but it removes the paint and restores the abs's color without the use of chemicals which can dry out the body or sand paper which can scrath the body and makes it new argo smooth!(it is just a hell of alot of work!) my argos faded green (never painted though)(thank god) but after just 10 minutes of rubbing the faded layer in the area i was rubbing which was about a 2 foot square was the factory green again! it works on painted sufaces to but i would recomend buying the pads at your hadware store in sandpaper sized sheets or you local automotive paint supply house. and invite you friends over it takes help your arms wear out after a while.

I will have a manuals ready for shipment by saterday As i said in my email I accept paypal online transactions, money orders, and cashiers checks.let me know which method you want to pay by and I will ship out your manual via piority mail.

thanks much
damen t.hill

Damen,
It turns out that it must be the factory
engine. The # you gave(g44b)is correct but
says Chaparral in large letters in a couple
of spots. On the tag it says made exclusively
for chaparral by fuji. I think fuji made
xenoah anyhow as they have made motors for polaris for years. Very interesting, could
this be some sort of racer as well?
The thing flat out rips and I dont even
have it running like it should. The one
reason I thought it wasnt original was that
the primary clutch doesnt engage till what
seems like redline and when it does,it hits
hard.
Damen, are you getting my emails?
Randy

I have only gotten two so far yahoos kinda secrewy sometimes. It could be you can contact your argo dealer and ask them they should be able to tell you more my local one has been very helpful in my resto job! as for your clutch it could be dirty inside, it is a pain to take apart because they have springs in them so they like to go spruuuung! when you take the cover off then when you clean them and go to put it back together it takes two people or a grunt bar to put the cover back on. as for engaugement if it is a 2 stroke then thats normal they dont engage till higher revs mine revs up to 7 grand then engauges sounds like it is reving high but it doesn't red line till 15 grand its power band is from 7 grand to about 14 grand. send me some pics of the engine if possible
