Hi *.*

After removing sproket assembly from the Amphicat I replaced the bearings,also just behind the bearing is a round seal that goes around the axel.Is this a water seal ? or is there supposed to be grease there even though the bearings are sealed anyway ?.
Anouther Question is the c clip used to hold the sproket in the frame . this is a piece of hardware spawned in Hell. Ive bought c clip speaders & they broke before the c clip even budged. Finally managed to pry it off - Is there a better tool that the local auto parts store have to offer ? or perhaps a trick im missing ?
More questions :
Is white lytium spray grease the best for chains ?

Would you recommend painting the frame with an oil based paint ? ( mine is showing signs of rust)

This is the Machine without a body,So Ive made a homemade body with a military theme.Has anyone ever tried attaching pontoons to get one to float ? any advice there ?

Im sure it will look great, not sure if its practical or not yet.At any rate the pontoons will go well with the military theme.

Since your machine has no body, I'm not sure which seal you are talking about. On mine, there is an open cap bolted through the body into the frame. Inside that cap there is a little oil seal, then a little plastic ring that I am going to replace with a Teflon/Kevlar cord, then a rubber gasket, then the body, the snap ring, bearing and another seal. The one you are asking about, I assume, is the inner seal. It's a National Oil seal # 471651 I believe, and to the best of my knowledge, it's there to keep the grease from the outer zerk fitting from going all over the place inside the hull. It should press right into that aluminum bearing carrier that's bolted to the frame.

I'm still waiting for a couple of parts to get mine back together....

If that's not the right seal, then it's a National number 470954. Just check the sizes on those two numbers - that will tell you which is which. I honestly don't remember, but I've got the whole list of bearings and seals for a model 500120 including all the thrust bearings and needle bearings for the tranny if you need them...

Do you have your Amphicat together and running yet? I have not seen any recent posts on your progress.

Just wondering how the project is going.

Unfortunately, no...:(

My list of projects is growing exponentially these days, and I still don't have the transmission housing back from the weld shop (I should have done it here). Once that comes back, all I need to do is make one shaft and the axles. I did finally get the engine running - starts on the first pull, too.

I'm in the middle of a 1924 touring car restoration now - but I'll get back on the 'Cat in the spring, I imagine.
