Hey guys,

I was just wondering where I could buy a well suited tachometer for my bigfoot that would fit nicely in the dash and give a readout between 0-4 or 5 thousand rpm. Any suggestions on where i can find one?

I also was thinking of alternative methods for draining the oil. No matter how careful I am, I ALWAYS loose oil in the bottom of the machine. I then have to go through the painstaking process of flushing the bottom out with degreaser and water. What a pain in the %^&.

I was thinking maybe I could siphon it out of the dipstick like on the old tecumseh's.

I also wanted to know if degreaser will deteriorate the HD polyethylene body on the argo?

Thanks.

John

I added a tach to my Max. It's a combination tach and hour meter and just has a sensor wire that raps around the plug wire. Very simple to install. They make models for one and two cylinder engines. We use them on our rental equipment and you can get them from most small engine repair shops. I think they run around $30 or so.
Degreaser wont hurt the body.

I got the Tiny Tach which I think is what Tim has. It works well but is a little slow. Also for reasons unknown, any water on it will make it read double RPMs.
There are two models of the Tiny Tach and number of cylinders make no difference. There is one for four strokes and one for two strokes. Believe it or not, you must use the one made for a two stroke. All of our modern four stroke Briggs/Kohlers fire on every revolution like a two stroke would. Their four stroke tach is made for the old engines. If you get that tach and put it on a new engine, it will read double RPMs.

John,
I removed the oil plug and installed a quick release oil drain plug.Forgot its exact name but you can get one at any sears lawn and garden dept. You simply turn it to release the lock mecanism and connect a plastic hose to the end and stick it through the drain holes and it is emptied. No muss no fuss.

Hi guys,

Thanks for all the suggestions. I did some research on the tiny tach and I found out that it is digital. I was hoping I could find an analogue tach. I HATE digital gauges of any kind, especially tachometers. I don't know, call me old fashioned. I like flashy analogue tach's that respond quickly.

Would anyone happen to know of an analogue tach I could order online?

I also just bought some chain wax. I will try it this weekend when I get a chance to degrease my chains.

Thanks for all your help, I appreciate it.

About the tiny tach, and any induction tach for that matter, will periodically read double RPM's.

I solved this problem by putting a wire connector on the red lead and connecting it to my kill switch (end that run from the coil). Now everytime the coil fires it sends a signal that is picked up by the red wire and coverted into a digital rpm read.
