I am wondering if anyone knows where I can pick up a replacement headlight for my '96 MAX II? It is a Wagner #4414. I've tried both Quality Farm & Fleet and TSC Tractor Supply Co. ...nada

Does anyone know of another chain store that may carry this size lamp? I know it'd be cheaper (and obviously faster) if I could snag one around here rather than order if from RI. (I'll have to if all else fails.)

If yours is the round style, I used halogen high beam lamps from NAPA, I believe the number was 5014, but take your old one in with you, they work great.

Thanks for the lead E.L.! I stopped at NAPA today and picked up a replacement set that is identical in every way to the stocker lamps, except they are 35 watt instead of 18.5 watt. total cost for 2 = $16.30 (incl. tax) BIG difference at night! Much better in dense woods. Thanks again!

I went to NAPA and picked up two new headlights for my Max. I could not find find the 5014 but I did see another 35 watt light. That one was in stock but I still wanted brighter. I then found a 50 watt light that was more than five times as bright (candlepower) as even the 35 watt. The price for each light was a steep $20 and I thought about my poor battery and charging system. But, I got them anyway!
I'll try them out tonight. They should be good for the night ride at this weekend's Deepwater 6x6 ride. I don't know how I ever managed to ride at night with the stock lights. It would have been better to tape two candles to the front of my Max!

I just installed the 35 Watt versions on my 98 Max II and they make a huge difference. I picked them up at NAPA for just under $17. One thing I did notice was, at idle, with the lights on, the ammeter was about one tick mark in the minus side showing I was discharging the battery. Anything over idle speed and the needle was at zero or on the plus side. With the new lamps turned on you don't want to let it idle for an extended period of time or it will drain the battery. The 50 Watt versions would really drain the battery I would think and may even not let the battery charge at all while turned on. Let us know how yours did Brandon.

My new 50 watt lights worked great. I could see where I was going and the battery held up well. The engine doesn't seem to charge at all when idling. The amp meter shows a -9 when the engine is off or idling. With any amount of throttle it jumps to the positives. I guess it charges quickly and since I use some throttle a lot more than idle, it works great. I might try to hook up my recoil pull start for the times I leave the lights on with the engine off.
