I have an american Amphicat that my dad got new from a dealer getting out of the buisness (he was given 2). We think it is a 1970 model. I'm almost finished with a total restoration and wonder abut tires. I sure like the look and ride of the old flotation tires but mine are all dead. I bought the axle adaptor for modern wheels but I just can't get excited about them. Any thoughts?

dave the amphicat mitchel, some people get as close to "floatation" tire as thay can by using tubes to maintane low presher (2 1/2psi) in soft sidewall 8"rimed tires. others get thar by way of rims that wont let go of the tire bead even though there is NO air "presher"in them, this is the "k-rim & thick sidwall system"
for the cat you can go ether way,
although for the later you should look for the lightest thick sidewall tire as cats have a light drivetrain, i don't remember if goodyear rawhide III fits but it might do the trick, some here use the goodyear rawhidIII and k-rim airless system with good results on maxII's (right brandon?)

I use the Carlise chevron tire on 8" rims. Is a very soft sidewall tire and looks much like the old ones. Just remember that soft tires tend to be fragile. We've had them on for quite a while now and haven't had a problem. I also run them on my Scrambler. Most of the areas we go we want to keep them as we found them, and these tires seem to do the best thus far.
