i just rebult a 440wbr chappral i have got 155 lbs per cyl with about 10 hrs on it

Help, I have lost all spark on my 484 chapparal, this spring I would occaisssionally foul one plug but it would work fine when I replaced it. I have finally gotten back to it and now have no spark in either cylinder. I adjusted the points and cranked it over witth the plugs out and I have zilch. Any good ideas?

HEY E L MCKENNEY:

first choice : disconect spark killer cable ( the one that short circuit the positive signal from point to coil)..that way you will discart a short circuit on the positive line....if you find blue spark check where is the short.....if you don't find blue spark you keep two choices...burned coil or burned magneto......to check coil condition just disconect positive terminal of coil and make a "touch and go" conection beyween positive batery terminal and positive inlet of coil...if now you get blue spark your problem could be an open magneto or dirt on point contact area...or the point cable is making ground with crankshaft..........to check static point condition replace magneto cable with direct conection from positive terminal of the batery ( just to make the test...now turn the engine without the flywheel ( from the clutch side) if point and coil are ok..you should get blue spark....

I need a starter for a 484 Chapperal motor. Where can I find one and if not can you tell me if their is a drop in engine replacment that I can use and where to get them at.

Does anyone know the point gap for a 484 cc Chaparral engine? When I first tried to fire it up, the points were corroded and I had a bad coil. I cleaned the points and replaced the coil to get it running. Now that I have ridden it a couple times, it just doesn't have the power it should. Even just revving the engine in neutral, it does not produce max RPMs. When I pull the choke on, it runs a little worse. My thoughts are its too rich or the points may need set. The carb is super clean and the fuel is fresh. I thought about rejetting it , but it must have ran with the jet that's in it. Any thoughts?

The point gap should be .012 to .016 as per my Attex Superchief manual.

Thanks for the specs Russ. I will check the point gap tonight. I think the point adjustment will help since the guy before me told me he had cleaned the points a few times before and He may have never set them right and the gap is too big. It did seem to run better at higher RPM and higher speeds when the machine was going , but in neutral it did not rev very good. I will check the timing after I set the points. I'll let you know what I find.

lance, choking the carb and it runs ruff says it probably is in tune. i would look at plug, point gap and timing.

Well, I pulled the flywheel last night and one point gap was set to about .010 and the other somewhere around .012. I set them to .016~.018 but I have not tried it yet. I think this is the problem. Tonight I will check the timing before I put it back together.

My guess is your still going to have problems. Might be wrong though????

Sounds like your down on lead or too much fuel. Either will keep a two stroke from winding up.

Well I looked at Russ's post again and I reset the point gap to .014". I did not try it yet. It was bad enough setting the points while the engine was in the machine, so I never did get to check the timing. After work I will fire it up and check the timing with a light but I think getting the point gaps correct and the same will help out alot. I'll post again with the results.

I ran the engine with the points set at .014. It was better but not quite right. I advanced the timing and it ran much better but still not quite right. I backed the timing off a little and this time it runs like it should. biggest problem I have now is recovering the seat. The original was in really bad shape and the wood was rotten. I pulled the seat cushions all the way off and now I can't stay behind the sticks when the going gets rough.
