While watchaing my Argo idle with the hood off, I noticed my front spark plug wire arcing to the head bolt near it. Has anyone had a similar problem? I am going to take a Santoprene sheet product(1/16") with some PSA on it and slide it between the wire and the sheet metal. I did try to move it but not enough slack in the wire to get it a significant distance from the metal.

Kevin, it sounds like that wire is cut or otherwise damaged. You should probably just replace it and not just patch it up.

you first need to replace the plug wire if its not too difficult.then make a shield or guard out of bigger piece of fuel line split and slid over it.

Condition of the wire is as new. No splits, cracks, etc.. I will try the fuel line split to cover and see it that helps. I would believe trying to replace it would be quite difficult, I will try to review service manuals.

It may be the plug, may be the wire. For whatever reason it should be easier for it to arc to ground at the plug electrode than through the plug wire. I'd replace both.

The plug is most likely at fault or the connector on the end of the lead might be a bit sus.

Lead insulation rarely breaks down under 40-50,000Volts; and then usually in high compression lean mixture engines.
