Can the Planetary gears within an Argo Transmission be made to be locked and unlocked for direct 6 wheel drive instead of feathering?

Iwas always going to tear down a Argo trans. and see if a Warn locker for a 4-wheeler would work .I sold my extra trans and didnt pursue it any farther. I think it would work if it were spring loaded to a lever on the handlebar and only engaged when both levers were against the dash block.

If there's a differential in there, there ought to be a locker somewhere of somekind that should fit. I have wondered myself about the argo diff and what kind it is and asked that question before but I don't think anyone was able to identify it I can't remember. Randys Ring and Pinion is probably the biggest distributor there is for lockers if it's the same as one that's already manufactured you should be able to find one. I think I would go for an air locker that way you would have an air supply to air up tires use an air wrench blow up a mattress etc.

It doesn't have side gears and a cross shaft like general automotive stuff.. it's planetary gearing. Nothing comes to mind as an easy mod internally. I thought about a small diameter clutch pack, like car/truck limited slip clutch plates, and building something to sit between two axles, with a pushbutton on the handlebar.

Then all you'd have to live with is the whine from straight cut gears, and the high steering effort. Ontario Drive & Gear, argo's parent company who makes the argo tranny, gifts Recreatives Industries with one of the best reasons to choose a max over an argo.

I have thought that a lockright locker type differential would work in that Argo. Watching alot of 6x6's negotiating terrain though, the Argo deosn't seem like it'shamstrun too much they always seem to go where the Max's go.
